I sold all my brass Henrys because they are tough to keep clean. I love Henrys! I just am a tad hard on my guns... my working guns are steel (all of them). Best hog gun is my .45-70, east Texas deer rifle, my .30-30.
Do you always run the ripcord thru dry? Also, I just got off the phone with Henry Corporate and she said to NEVER use those Henry wipes on the wood or brass! She said to use Flitz products only and to avoid all RUclips videos and stick to the ones on the website only! So which is it?
I use just a light film of high-temp break grease on the internal parts, at the wear points, to keep the lubricant in place even during periods of high heat. It seems to work exceptionally well and with no issues yet. If I was in a desert environment then I would not use any oil-type lubricant other than a spray in penetrant graphite lube like "Lock-Ease" to keep dust from clogging critical areas.
You will learn to make your own and enjoy the hobby of reloading. You can load up a box of .357 for half of what a factory box costs. And it will be higher quality too.
I have 3 henrys, a youth golden boy, a youth base and a 22 wmr base. Here in canada they are more expensive than in the US and quite difficult to buy. They are sold out everywhere. My Henry golden boy youth is a very good looking gun..so good they i leave it in the original box in the gun cabinet to avoid being dinged when i grab the other. I am however disappointed by the 22 wmr base. I had hardtime doing bullseye at 100yards with scope installed. And it was very difficult to even hit the paper size target at 200yards. I know lever action don't have the accuracy of bolt action, but i was hopping something close.. definately not. I don't know if my henry 22 wmr is a bad copy, but i live in canada and i have no clue how to have it checked by henryusa since they are outside canada . Can't ship out guns to thebUS without paper work. So i just presume all henry 22mag can't shoot 200 yards. But at 25 yards, they work great. I like the youth eventhough im an adult. Youth aren't meant for kids, quite the contrary, youth are very useful in the field or in the wood. They are a little shorter and lighter thus easier to carry around. If you are an adult under 5’.6" the henry youth should fit nicely, If you are 6'+ the youth might still work. Im 5’.4" and it fits me perfectly , i don't feel cramped at all. My kid is 4'.4" and the youth was still too long for him. The youth is definitely good for adults. So if you can't find the classic, definitely you should grab the youth. As for cleaning, it takes more time to clean than bolt action as you need to unscrew stock and receiver to access everything.. if you have a scope mounted on the receiver you will lose your zero after cleaning it. If your scope is mounted on the cantilever barrel mount,, you can't remove the receiver. So personally i don't think i will be using my henrys for long distance shooting. I only wish henry could sell a nice looking brass scope that would go on golden models.. to give a western look.. i find modern scopes to be ugly on the. golden/silver. Lastly, it would be fun if golden/silver/classic had side gate to put 22 caliber.. having to extend your arm to pull out the rod can be awkward .. so to sum up Youth is for adult Brass looking old western scope Side gate loading on all 22s caliber.
@@belcher73 yes. I used Flitz tarnish remover. put a small amount directly on the tarnish and then wiped it ouff. worked like a charm. rounded it with the Henry gun oil and it looks like brand new.

Im in a gun group and a guy has a brand new Henry big boy 30 30. The carrier has severe gouging after less than 100 rounds thru it. The carrier obviously isnt steel. What type of metal is the carrier? Zinc?

Hoppe's had a video on their version of the ripcord, the boresnake; they say, yes, you can go ahead and put a few drops on the leading end of the cord, they demonstrated doing this where the cord flares and would first begin to contact the bore. However, they mention that this will likely shorten it's life. You can alternately use the cord dry when in the field and then perform a thorough cleaning when back at home. At least that is what I have learned to do so far. I'm a relatively new owner myself, so take that with a grain of salt.
I read that they comes from factory with some heavy oil or grease to help prevent something ..due to fact they might be in storage for a while .and this should be removed before using..planning on doing that today on my own

What I'm wondering is because I haven't had a rifle in like 25-30 years, should I just put it together and start using it or does it need to be oiled cleaned or anyting else first before I put it together and use it?
I was handed down a Henry from my grandfather after he passed two years ago it’s sat in a sleeve this hole time how do I clean the golden parts of it and keep it stored in my sleeve with out rust or moisture hurting the gun I probably will never shoot it since the last person to clean it was my grandfather I just need some tips to preserve it for my son. Well, I'm a year late to your comment, but I have a couple Henry's as well as other lever actions. If the brass on your gun is tarnished, then just about any brass cleaner will do, once it's polished up, make sure the residue is completely wiped off, then, wrap it with a microfiber towel or cover and use rubber bands to hold it in place during storage. The wood, I use total boat wood honey. It's food safe, therefore additive and chemical free and doesn't degrade the wood. Keeps it nice and deep looking. I would invest into really nice hard gun case, preferably one with an air valve that keeps moisture out or at least to a minimum. Being as it's an heirloom and all. Hope you found some help!!
Is there a polish that would work on the Golden Boy reciever? Is using the Golden Boy Polish Cloth the only way to clean the brasslike components of the rifle?
I got an engraved Henry it's the brass wildlife edition. Do you do the same thing with it? I just bought the metal polish and wiped it off and alot of black stuff was on the rag.

There is as far as I can tell no bore snake that works on the Henry Youth model H001Y. The bar at the end of the snake or any cable I have found is to long to feed through the breach end of the reciever.

How do you properly break in the barrel on a golden boy? I have heard many theories, like clean the barrel before the 1st shot. And clean the barrel after Each shot for 5 times, then clean after 20 shots. This is supposed to ensure the barrel is properly seasoned and will be more accurate. Is this the correct way?? Any advise would be appreciated
I have a 45/70 brass Henry. Do you have a product that will prevent my shoulder and neck muscles from being mangled after only 40 rounds? I was using padding and felt nothing at the time but by midnight I was in agony. Before I had only shot max 15 rounds. Guess I overdid it. My STUPID fault. That was 3 weeks ago and despite pain killers, ointments and anti muscle spasm pills, the pain still has not gone completely. I am 73, wheelchair bound and therefore bench shoot. This is just a warning for folks like me. I can't wait to get back to my Henry 45/70 ALBEIT with fewer rounds in one session And just in case you think I'm joking my guns' serial number is FFSB 05730
What do use the gun for? If to hunt fine. For practice, the recoil of anything above 7mm-08 or so is hard, especially when one shoots plenty. Just keep that in mind. Am 50 and am very recoil sensitive at just a tad more weight than a midget.
I'm 48, 190 lbs.. shoot my Henry 45/70 all the time with no soreness.. prolly ran 400+ rounds thru it. Usually shooting Hornady 325's. Mine is the CCH w octagon barrel if that makes a difference.. Perfect gun for putting down hogs with extreme prejudice!
My Henry was fairly new and taken to the range twice, I put it away for a few months in a hard case under my bed and when I took it out today the lever was rusted. Has anyone had this happen to them before? And how do I prevent this from happening again?

Yes, I have had rust on my Henry from short storage periods, in spots where I didn't wipe it down. Luckily it was a thin surface layer and it wiped off with some Rem Oil. Think rusty cars near the ocean. Salts accelerate corrosion. The oils and sweat from your hands are the salts to the gun, just like the ocean is to the cars. Also, storing in a hard case for a long period will rust the gun. The case tends to acts like a moisture sponge, holding moisture near the gun and allowing corrosion. It's best to store in a dehumidified safe or closet, preferably with the barrel down to avoid oil pooling. I started storing my Henry in a closet on some Smith and Wesson VCI corrosion-prevention paper and I haven't seen any rust (I live in rainy Washington). You can get a stack of sheets on Ebay for $12, they are great for any blued gun.

To be honest though you don't need to clean the bolt on a lever action like you do on a bolt action or semi auto. Just keep it oiled and free of extreme residues and it'll run forever.

i noticed some spots on the brass receiver on my dad's Henry rifle. How do i get rid of those spots? also does linseed oil work for the wood stock?

Nicholas Vilardo I use “neverdull”. It comes in a blue can. Then you wipe down with a shammy or a soft cloth after. Not paper towels.
FLITZ POLISH is an eco safe liquid polish that works good for brass and several other metals and surfaces.

Get a Bore Store rifle case (these are silicone lined). The foam in hard cases hold moisture.
