    If you don't know Limp Bizkit, you've completely missed the late 90s and early '00s. This videoclip is from the year 2000. During that era, they dominated mainstream music, alongside Eminem and Linkin Park (not their precursors).

    • @anthonywissell7002
      @anthonywissell7002 6 месяцев назад +35

      KoRn was at the forefront as well.

    • @oneslikeme
      @oneslikeme 6 месяцев назад +17

      This album was their second album, released in '99. Linkin Park's first album released in '00. So Limp Bizkit's popularity didn't hit long before Linkin Park released, but they were still a precursor. Along with Korn, they primed everyone for more rap/hip-hop collabs. I would say Linkin Park perfected it though.

    • @Nu.Metal.Kid.99
      @Nu.Metal.Kid.99 6 месяцев назад +6

      @oneslikeme yes, them and Korn paved the way for Linkin Park, Papa Roach, and other huge bands. But the Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water also came out in 2000, and it was as big as Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory back then. Limp Bizkit enjoyed their huge mainstream popularity until 2004/2005, so they were at the top of the music industry alongside their peers during that period before their fame fell off.

    It's been fun watching your journey through music that I grew up with, and I'll echo a bunch of others - This went exactly how I expected to.
    That said, as for your "Is he getting other people to play him?" thought - basically. Premise always seemed to be that the lyrics are something most people could relate to, especially at the time it came out.
    As for your thoughts of surprise on the various rappers showing up, was really common to see blending of genres at the time and it was always a great time. Some big examples would be "Walk This Way" of course, but one of the bigger lost tracks would be "It's Going Down" from the X-Ecutioners.
    That said, I look forward to the day you end up at the door that got me onto the metal doorstep - Fear Factory. They have some tracks that dance close to Rap stylings, but I feel like "Zero Signal" or "Edgecrusher" would just be something to experience.
    Keep it going, and have a great one.

    I remember as a kid putting on the music video channel they topped the charts for a long time, I'd hear it multiple times a day on different countdowns, on the radio, at amusement parks. Them and Linkin park dominated that genre. They made the rock/punk/skater culture, style and music mainstream to kids who maybe didn't fit in that scene or didn't know about it, back then it was often rich suburban kids or a specific crowd who wanted to rebel who listened to rock and adopted the style. I think that's why the rock hipsters looked down on them back then.

    All the nu metal bands were successful around the same time in the late 90s, early 2000s. Limp Bizkit started the public break through and dominated the music scene for a couple years. They basically opened the doors in radio for nu metal and all the other nu metal bands broke through the flood gates as if the world had waited for them.

      Don't forget they were a devout Christian rock band. I remember someone (I think Kurt Loder from MTV) talking about the first time he was to interview them on a tour, they had gone to a couple other bands buses, there was booze, drugs, naked chicks. They go to POD's bus, get invited in, and it was all calm and quiet, 2 of them were reading bibles, drinking milk.

    Numetal followed by Horrorcore got me deep into both rap and metal. Genre mashing is wonderful for teaching people how to find and appreciate new kinds of music, so it's nice to see that it's still effective, even 20+ years later. XD

    Jonathan Davis of Korn and Fred of Limp Bizkit did guest spots on each other's albums that same year, on Korn's it was called All in the Family, done kind of battle rap style with rock flair.

    All of these guys hung out together in the 90's....liKe everyone. Nirvana, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Ice Cube, Dre, Snoop, 2 Pac, etc. Ice Cube went on tour with Korn and has a track with them. With the exception of the East Coast vs West Coast nonsense , they all mostly got along. Except for Guns and Roses.... no one got along with them. Mostly because of Axl Rose.
