I was moments from losing the will until you showed me the rubber seal and foam edge could be moved out the way of the lower bolt.. Had all the wrong tools too, got there...Genuine big thanks to you fella.. There was a clip you missed on the vid that pulls the battery clamp up as you position the new battery, or it's stuck on a tilt. But I wouldn't have been close without the vid.. ...Cheers
Just done this job. My advice is if you don’t have a very long (8 inches) Allen key don’t attempt it until you have one. Not sure what mm as the one I used had no markings. It’s a pig of a job, German engineering at its finest. Fair play for doing the video mate, esp one handed!
I had to do this job earlier today on my own car. It looks more awkward to do if you dont have the correct tools. I used a long extention bar on a cordless drill with a 6mm allan key bit in it to get in at the fastener clip. I also disconnected the fused terminal off the positive to give me more space to remove the old battery. I put the new one in, clipped the sealed loom back into place and then fitted the terminals back on and put a small amount of copper grease on the terminals to preserve them.
Many thanks for the video! Had to mention that the late model B6's are identical. I couldn't work out why in all the video's for the B6 the "battery bay" looked different! So this proceedure works for the earlier B6's too. And big thanks to Audi (sic) for making it so painful just to change a battery!
Hope it worked for you. I've got the battery retaining bolt loose but the battery won't move. The web mentioned in the vid won't let the battery come forward plus my convertible has a steel tube running across the front of the battery which again stops it from moving freely. Plus the bloody battery is so heavy I can't lift it!! Just reinforces what I have always believed, the cretins who design these things have never tried to work on them and never consulted anyone who has. So called design engineers. Can't design and have never engineered!
Thanks for this post I have to say it was that hidden Alen Bolt that threw me, I couldn't see it at first but once the rubber wiring harness moved out of the way and with a torch I could see the litte twat! Very awkward to get at, I used a long extention Allen socket & even when bolt fully loosened off I still couldn't get the plate or the battery out, that metal strutt and the pipes really get in the way! I figured out that by using the plastic long tab that is attached to the retaining plate & sliding it accross to the right towards the Pollen filter & get it out of the way this allows the battery out easier
I removed the battery to clean out the leaves and crap from underneath and reconnected it now the ESP light stays on and my remote central locking has stopped working .any suggestions ?
how to do stuff on cars I just inspected mine years after my official dealership tech replaced it for me. They forgot to reinsert the vent tube. I saw it sitting in there next to the battery! Pushed it in and all sorted now. :)
whilst battery out check drain holes etc are clean and oil the allen bolt...makes it easier next time ... If drain holes get blocked water will ingress car....
Drain holes ( actually rubber bungs with slots that clog up !) are under battery tray and the other is under near brake servo ( uk cars). I found best way is to use a stiff plastic ( so it doesn't damage paintwork) thing like you get on drills to control depth etc and tackle the drain hole from the engine bay below.....you'll know you've found it when water gushes down and out....I do mine monthly....
Surely to god, the manufacturers could've come up with a more convenient system for holding a battery in place? I mean, a fucking Allen key down in the dungeon of the car, and you have to remove all that stuff to get access? Fuck-off. They design a great* car but can't design a simple release system? Shite. Back in the day the battery could be removed and replaced in about 90 secs. Great video, friend, thanks for the tutorial 👍
Can you imagine you need youtube and instructions to remove a battery. I gave up. Just can't wait to get rid of this shit, I have it for 4 years and never EVER again want an Audi.
The computer has to be RESET by the dealer when you REMOVE the battery.. just my .2 cents. I work at Advance Auto Parts and I've seen what happens if you uninstall a battery that needs a cpu reset 2005 Audi a4 2.0t - 6speed MT 2011 bmw 328i M-Sport - SOLD

Thanks for this. The location of the bolt was a mystery to me.
Cheers for the heads up on the bolt. Was doing my head in trying to get the battery out without knowing about it being held in place😂

I think it was a 3/16 key

Thanks, didn't know what was holding the battery in. BTW, the auto-generated subtitles on your video are a laugh (I'm deaf).
Thanks for showing me, now I know, I've got a Audi A4, s line, my battery has gone flat, and now I know how to change it,

Good one fella
Your vid came in very handy
I was stumped til I saw it 👍
A great help with the most ridiculous place to put a battery EVER! Prepare to struggle.Audi what were you thinking?
Many thanks for this - I couldn't work out how to remove that rubber to get to the allen key bolt.
Thanks for the video, saved me a lot of time and knuckle skin.
Worked a charm. Thanks very much
Thanks for the demonstration, helped me to remove this bad ass battery from my Audi B7!
Thanks for all the effort you took to show how bloody awful it is to change a battery. Put me off doing it!
glad it helped to show how hard it was to get to the bolt
Cheers mate helped me out immensely
no problem

Thanks for the vid. Do you know if a vent tube is required? I didn't see you connect a vent tube to the battery. Not sure if one is needed.
a can not remember if it had 1

what a pain in the butt job, bad engineering Audi
i appreciate your time and work..
Any idea how long it should take to remove the bolt? I've been turning for over an hour and the battery still won't budge.
Should be done. 2 years now
@@edpakes6878 no he's still at it
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors Hahahahaha lads lol
Any progress on the battery, are you still turning the bolt?
Still going
Thanks! I needed to know I can lift off that padded section..
Cheers bud , I have a 04 which I thought was a B6 , but mine is the same set up as yours .
I had hell getting that allen bolt out.
Thank you - that was very helpful!
Thanks dear it's very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
silly question. but how do you adjust the blocks in the base left to allow a bigger battery to be fitted?...Mine seem fixed...! Good video by the way.
appreciate the upload, cheers!
Thanks for the awesome guide.

amazing how something that should be so simple is made so bloody difficult. who hell decided to put the battery there!!!?

Thank you, helpful
And afther change .....reprograming????
And basically had to climb inside the hood just to take it out. It's got some weight on it.

Found alot of water under the battery. Has anyone got the same issue?
yes, remove the rubber bungs so the water can drain out.. or eventually it will fill up enough and fuck with the relays under ur ecu
This ENGINEERING was badly done. Why should a battery be hidden and removing it becoming a job?
You've never seen a hybrid I'm guessing
It's a 6mm hex
And as you whispered ,it is a frigging nightmare , who in the hell @ Audi designed that load of shizzle ?
yes it was hard to get too
