  • Hey, in this video I'm playing a cool tapping Midwest Emo / Math Rock riff in DADF#AE on my acoustic guitar.
    I think that writing in dadf#ae tuning always makes the music come out the most natural for me.
    Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

    realised that DADFADE would be a great fitting band name for a midwest emo band as well as the tuning for their 7-string guitars

    Hey sounds great!!! I agree with you I love the resonance the ringing out of a chord has in that tuning, it has such a great feel. Lol I have songs in standard, DAEAC#E, and FACGCE and just started messing around in this tuning too. Haha my bandmates love how much guitar switching / tuning I have to do.

      if you have fear of strings breaking (which is pretty reasonable when playing acoustics) standard tuning is totally valid. learn some chord shapes and play around a lot, look what sounds good for you and take inspiration from bands you like

    I’m not really sure how this is emo, I was busking this kind of stuff back in the 80s and Emo wasn’t even a thing then.

      Theres a distinct difference between emo and midwest emo

  • @SomethingImpromptu
    @SomethingImpromptu Год назад +1

    Is this sound consistently called Midwest emo? Bevause when I was growing up emo was some lame ass whiney scene-esque Panic At the Disco shit… So I’m curious if it’s a geographic distinction, or just that the people who were into whiney emo/scene/screamo music back in the 2000s have grown up & gotten into Elliott Smith since then, or if it’s a specific subgenre, or if this is just your personal style which you’re associating loosely with emo?

    • @Jib_
      @Jib_  Год назад +2

      yea i think its pretty distinct from emo.
      Midwest emo has more influence from the more guitar based technical genre 'Math Rock'.
      You could still call many Midwest Emo songs whiney but i think even vocals are a bit more positive than classic Emo
      thanks for your comment :)

      I wondered the same thing. I never liked emo, but I love what is being called "midwest emo". I don't really see much connection between emo and midwest emo at all.
