i think that something important to note about the effects is that, if you're an artist with an animation program, you could totally make your own animations for those effects! it's a lot more effort, but it gives you a bit more creative freedom with it, and you can make the effects more moulded to how your character's dress/hair/body/ect looks!
i have only made one magical girl transformation, though, and i didn't even publish it, so take my advice with a grain of salt :)
