    Quick tip to most Civic and CRX owners. Unbolt your master cylinder, it's just 2 nuts. Slide the master cylinder to the drivers side easily. Brake lines are fairly soft on them and as long as you go slow they wont kink. Pull the alternator right out beside the brake booster. It's a 20 to 30 minute job that way. Been doing it like that for over 20 years now.

      I had just installed the new master and I didn't want to both the new lines

    When customers come into the Zone & ask what I think if they should get a new or remanufactured alternator/starter I always tell them if it's in a tight hard to get at spot then go with a new one. If it's easy to get at or if they plan on selling it soon then go with the remanufactured.

      That sounds about right to me.when someone is paying me to do a difficult job i tell them to not cheap out on the part. Because if it fails very soon you'll be paying for this job twice

    Theres a wide open space underneath. I took off bracket and dropped the alternator. Good work though!

    I had an '89 Accord years ago that had an alternator that crapped out on me. I saw how involved it was and said, "nope - your ass is going to Pep Boys". I generally prefer to work on my own vehicles but you have to know when to throw in the towel lol.

    The easiest way I found out to do it was remove the brake master cylinder and pull it to the side and alternator come out from that area. I did it twice on a sedan and hatch pretty easy

      @themechanic6117  3 года назад +2

      I thought of that but i didnt feel like disconnecting the brake lines .even without moving the lines i didnt want to take a chance of kinking the lines. thanks for the tip 👍

      Never know till you try but its understandable I wasn't about to remove axle to replace the alternator. It was my last resort and it worked out good and the lines didnt kink just have to be careful. Good job with channel bro always have good content

    I used to laugh, to see guys use a manual impact driver (Lisle 29200) when they have air tools and power tools. Are those guys luddites? Then I used one a few times for those pesky rotor retention screws. Wow, way easier than a screwdriver and way less likely to strip threads out compared to power tools.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  3 года назад

      Manual impact screwdriver is a lifesaver but my go to now is the air hammer with a attachment for removing rotor screws 👍

    How is that alternator tensioned?
    Is it a threaded rod/captive bolt, automatic, or just pull & tighten?
