The U.S. presidential election is not until November, but the consequences of what might happen then are already affecting the war in Ukraine today. This video explores the underlying concern that Trump will cut aid, the likelihood that it will happen, and how both parties are (and are not) changing their strategies given those expectations.

The question shouldn't be "how much are you willing to spend to keep Ukraine safe", it should be "how much are you willing to spend to destroy Russia's military".
Better question yet is ''How much are you willing to spend to keep your european allies under your sphere of influence and keep their business'' since abandoning Ukraine will most likely be the first step into NATO's fall and any allies with it. Isolationism never did anyone any good.
Why would nato, who just got two new members and old members now spending their fair share, collapse now?
To be perfectly fair, Russia's political structure has already been doing a pretty decent job at that without outside help.
@@MichalisG1821 You don't count China, Iran, N Korea, India and don't forget betrayers within the USA.
No the fuck it's not, man... I am thankfully you are not in power. That's exactly why Russia is paranoid and lashing out. We ain't got no ill will towards Russia that way, we aren't interested in crippling them. We just want to protect the sovereignty of a peaceful and formerly successful nation.
The US has the power at any time to stomp Russia like an ant, they're not even close to a challenge, we have no need to do anything but stop them from committing this heinous act.
People don't realize the main reason the US is a superpower today is probably because it stopped being isolationist. People forget it wasn't wasn't considered a superpower until after WWII.
...Maybe they get confused because the previous superpower also spoke English🤷
The problem is that being a superpower hasn't benefitted the American People. We have fought in tons of wars who win or loss would not benefit us, but rather the elite interests and military industrial complex.
We have exported jobs and imported labor, which has kept wages low even as inflation and costs have skyrocketed. American Workers have stagnated as the Elites have gotten more wealthy than ever before, leading to record inequality. This is what globalization has brought us.
@@shorewall Alright, now I want you to consider where the US gets most of its resources and what would happen if those connections vanish.
@@shorewallbeing a super has benefited the American people. Many American s consider the 1950’s to be America golden age, and that’s when America was frankly at the height of its super power status as the rest of the world was bombed to fucking rubble.

See, that's become one of the major issues with the American political system. It becomes pretty much paralyzed during election season when it all becomes a sport. They can't afford to not exploit every issue for political points. This wouldn't be such big a problem if the election season hadn't become so ridiculously long!
Off course the media loves that shit, so they'll stoke the fire at every opportunity.
Those images of Zelensky 'then and now' compared are so telling. He used to look uncomfortable, not confident and completely overpowered by the Western leaders. Well, I see the importance of Ukraine much more than most people think. It's something that's been on my mind since the war started. Ukraine, it's a nation that wants to be free from Russia. Giving up on it is just bad. That I never leave the thought of Ukraine.
Prior to the US coup in 2014 Ukraine's democratically elected president Yankovic chose the backing from Russia instead of the west International Monetary Fund. Which is why the west backed the coup which ousted Yankovic from office.
Their are many places in the west and elsewhere that have some movements for independence, if any of them actually attempted it, you would see all of the west condemning them for even trying to be free. So lets not pretend the idea of keeping ahold of territory or recovering lost territory doesn't come up outside of Russia.

Well said and very clear. Thank you 😊
I think it's an interesting question, how much an Ukrainian victory is worth to the west in terms of money. Or to put it differently, how much is reasonable to invest into this conflict.
The closest comparison I got is the reunification of Germany. To my knowledge that has cost 1.5 trillion dollars. While of course there is some return value, the same holds true for Ukraine. And of course you can't just compare it 1 to 1.
That being said, as far as I know, the west invested only a fraction of 1.5 trillion dollars into this war
The US hasn’t even provided $100 Billion in aid yet. Though there is currently another 60 Billion in the aid package the Senate just approved, but the Republican controlled House doesn’t want to bring it up for a vote.
The cost is not, primarily, the loss of Ukraine - It is the extra defence spending that will be required everywhere in the world and for many years to come to counter the increased level of risk from both Russia and every other country that has territorial claims that it will feel emboldened to press. There's a lot mentioned about countries spending 2% of GDP on NATO. They will have to spend much more than that on defence if Russia wins.
@@DynastyGuy if you count the US intelligence apparatus helping Ukraine…it is vastly more than the aid packages sum. The intelligence has been very expensive & the US is involved in a much bigger level than any other nation.
Should have followed Churchill's advice and just gone to Moscow.
Way too late for that one.

Thank you, as always, for keeping us well informed on Ukraine. A question for a possible future video: What is the importance of Belgorod? Ukraine frequently targets the city. is this simply as a way to frighten Russian civilians or is the city used by the Russian military for something more strategic? Or is it just news today but there are many other attacks into Russia in many other locations (like the attacks on oil terminals) and Belgorod is actually no more attacked than anywhere else?
A significant part of the Russian army in Ukraine is supplied through Belgorod. It's just a logistics hub.
Well... Ukrainians also jokingly have historical claims to these lands because Russia once took them away. But this has only meme value.
@@user-wm5rt9pw5lhistoricly ukraine never controlled Belgorod. At least I didn't find any map of it.
@@Anubis.731 The UPR state briefly controlled Belgorod in 1918. The Belgorod region was considered part of Ukraine in imperial times, not as part of the country but as part of the region “Ukraine”.

Wat does America have to do with Ukraine they should have thought about this when all the corrupt officials was stealing aid
Can someone please explain to me how the USA can supply Ukraine with less than what they are currently doing? Last I checked - the USA aid for Ukraine ran out some weeks if not months ago. Did I miss some important aid package that keeps sneaking into Ukraine from the US?
Don't forget how this current US administration has slow walked getting the advanced gear to win this war. Still no F-16s over Ukranian airspace! Joe is a coward!
My understanding on the aid packages is they give it out piecemeal not one big chunk and the last one is for some time in 2025. Sorry don't have details.
Biden is doing deals whereby he "sells" surplus or "obsolete" US weapons to third parties for a nominal fee on the understanding that they then either give them to Ukraine or else keep them and give their own hand-me-downs to Ukraine. The Republicans cannot block this.
The war is effectively over for Ukraine. They have done more than anyone ever expected, but Ukraine needs to seek a settlement like Finland did in the 39' Winter War, if they can have any hope of a functional state in the future.
There is simply no way that Ukraine can make up for their lack of manpower and the lag in equipment from their allies. The war is costly for Russia, but absolutely untenable for Ukraine.
F@ck that. No more appeasement.
@@nobodyherepal3292 "Appeasement" is throwing lives and treasure away to, hang on, "appease" the NeoCon warhawks and their corporate masters.

You need to start asking questions about our own media and what story they're to sell us to make us approve their belligerence. This is Iraq all over again. I'm not falling for that BS, just like I didn't the first time.
As much as I hate to admit it, this is probably the only solution we'll be able to get.
We can keep sending military supplies and equipment, but once the manpower pool runs out Ukraine may suffer a total collapse. I think a DMZ border like the one between the Koreans is the most reasonable settlement at this point, where the world fails to recognize Russia's claims. I hope Europe will now understand that Russia isn't a country you can reason with, they only know war so militarize against Russia so that we'll be ready the next time they pull this stupid S***.

We got bigger problems at home with the border crisis.
Democrats want illegals for votes so its impossible for them to prioritize the border
Interest is going to be pretty low if Russia's rate of advance is one empty town per year. The fact is Russia is seen less and less of an urgent threat everyday and Ukraine will need more support from sources closer and with a more direct interest in the outcome of the war.
Those sources closer and with more direct interests in the outcome of the war have already been providing a massive part of the support compared to their economy.
- the baltics states have given more than 1% of their GDP to Ukraine
- Poland gave 0.67% of its GDP
- Germany 0.52% of its GDP
- Norway has given 1.6% of its GDP to Ukraine
And the USA has given... 0.323% of its GDP.
The facts are pretty clear. And just looking at where most of the tanks and all of the airplanes have and will come from makes it even clearer.

A huge reason why American's see Russia's military as weak is because of the American contribution to Ukraine. I don't think voters are making that connection. That is part of the issue but less important than foreign aid flowing into Ukraine to make Russia look weak.
it is weak. putler hoped to take ukrain in 3 days... months at least... first there was zero support and russia could not do it. the only things were sanctions put on russia but sanction never hit those who are real culprits but common citizens are the ones bearing the pain.

The way the Russian population will react is probavbly the same way as americans reacted after they did acknowledge all that agent orange stuff and highway of death of type things. So basically they won't if they're not completely conquered. The Russian victim mindset is quite strong in russia and i doubt it will change anywhere in the future.

Many in the US have not benefitted from the post-ww2 foreign policy decisions & many have actually been harmed by it. F16's will be fucked up by 😂😂
I'm probably paranoid but I feel like you're rubbing the upside down clock in our faces haha
The lines-on-maps thing is always irrelevant. There is never a scenario in which giving an enemy half your country will decrease the likelihood of them seizing the other half by force. The diagram assumes that any imaginable deal is automatically enforceable, whereas in fact the only deal that's ever enforceable is an unconditional surrender, and then only if the victor is willing to spend the resources on an occupation.
I think some people missed the part that our Own Country needs the Money and we should stop being the Global Police Force. We can't even protect our Own Border.

Personally I think its all theatre anyway, even Trump is on their side he is just the good cop in a good cop, bad cop routine, the people that support Biden are just useful idiots and they are VERY few, yes only slow people think 2020 was legit. Yeah Biden beat Trump with 72 million votes while winning NO bell weathers and taking 2 weeks to count lol. We live in an ethnic oligarchy at the moment, facts.
Don’t fool yourself everyone I’ve talked to cares way more about the border crisis and healthcare then Ukraine, most also tend to care more about Israel do to a decent amount of Israeli’s being also Americans, then Ukraine.

Question: you mention 'they' run contrary to expectations at like the 5:20 mark. I guess in your opinion, is the Trump impeachment/court debacle not likely to end up with him likely not even allowed to run for presidency? Isn't the expectation that it's going to be like the first US president with a felony or jailed after or for something they did during term? (Soz, Aussie here with little US political understanding).

Well done, in the chair next to the lady looking the other way.
I thought it would be in that picture, but could not find him, until you pointed it out.
Thank You.

While the American well may run dry, the Europeans, who are actually effected by the war, can always pick up the slack
Except they can't deliver the weapons.
@technokicksyourass I'm sure they can figure it out if it's as important as some people claim. However, the US isn't the world's policeman. We have our own problems and due to our attempts to be the world's policeman those problems have gone unaddressed. Europe is more than capable of defeating Russia without us.
@@XtoDoubt25 "More than capable of defeating Russia", why would you think so? We have never defeated Russia through history and certainly will not now with

I personally don’t care about Europe. Let them learn their lesson. At least they will have free healthcare when they get invaded.
3:15 Valery Gerasimov in the senate is great
You are missing the most important information. Ukraine can't mobilize much more. People in Ukraine as so pissed with how the current forced mobilization goes, that any attempt for another 500k might be the political end of the current government. Russia, however, is not only recruiting, its troops size is growing without any further mobilizations. The situation is much worse for Ukraine than you think, and it is deteriorating rapidly. So not, waiting out isn't the strategy Ukraine can afford.
We as Americans must stop the politicians running for office whom are on the Kremlins payroll. I suggest you look into your local representatives voting history in the senate and house to see if they support democracy, or oppose it. That goes for the presidential nominees as well...
There is a lot at stake. Domestic divides are artificial, we should not let them interfere with our foreign politics and struggles against our adversaries
We as Americans need to stop voting for people who want to give Ukraine billions in pure cash. When our own border security needs a reform, same as our medical industry and our immigration system.
Why are those so important now when we’ve been dealing with them for centuries at this point. Also if they are so important why did they cancel the largest border reform bill in years just to stop aid to Ukraine?
…Mike Johnson reportedly received campaign contributions from American Ethane, a company 88% owned by 3 Russian nationals:…Start here…

@invaderjoshua6280 just from your first sentence I can tell you're misinformed on the situation my guy. We aren't giving ukraine billion in cash. We are sending them outdated equipment and old ammunition and allocating money to our own defense industry for modern equipment. It's a net positive for everyone but russia. There is not argument against it being beneficial
@@invaderjoshua6280 USA does not send any "pure cash" to Ukraine. The "pure cash" goes to american defence industry and american jobs, for producing new modern weapons. The old stuff that the USA sends to Ukraine, represents money already spent decades ago. It's already spent. You can't get that money back. (In fact, starting this January, ATACAM missiles were scheduled for destruction - AT A COST! That actually consumes new money, that hasn't been spent yet.

Re: the war shaping elections. You’d better believe, I will *only* be voting for pro-Ukraine candidates in every upcoming election until the war is over! And even beyond, when it comes to electing people who will be pro-adding Ukraine to NATO.
Damn right. The only thing politicians listen to is election results.
Karl Rove once observed that anything Congress did, the public credited to the sitting President. So, it was always in the interest of the opposing party to oppose any popular legislation, to deny the President victories (and thus reduce his popular perception in advance of the next election). With Ukraine aid popular, but the top issue for only 1%, the Republicans may calculate that it's worth opposing such aid, to prevent an election year triumph for Biden, while seeing only a little blowback from voters themselves.
Ya it's a major flaw of the US system. Democrats were essentially giving Republicans what they wanted on border security but they shot it down. It's logical to do so.
This is too true and very frustrating.
It also leaves the option that if Trump were to propose it, it would be supported by Republicans (and opposed by Democrats). It's similar to how Biden pushed back the withdrawal date of the US from Afghanistan, because he wanted to claim the credit.
Am just here to enjoy the lines being drawn on maps 😂

This dad agrees with your dad.
Europe's increase in defense spending and trying to improve on it's existing military industry isn't Trump's merit though. Since 2022 many EU nations have begun to increase their defense budget due to Russia's invasion and finally showing how untrustworthy Putin is. It just takes time. All Trump managed to do is piss off it's allies and look more like an idiot than he already was.
@@msimon6808 They won't take things seriously unless someone speaks the truth. Trump is helping them understand that they should invest in their own defense more.
probably, but I mean that directly leads to what trump wanted, a strengthened europe so the usa could pull back and focus on internal matters, as the country is unstable.

Okas vivas youre philosophy of war
i love how 'cutting aid to ukraine' means that the US is being isolationist to so many people
Apparently, if we aren't keen on paying for European decadence forever, we're on the road to isolationism. Never mind that this is the exact position the Europeans wanted to take regarding China before the war started. They seemed happy to trade with China and take a neutral position before they suddenly realized the value of US protection. We'll certainly never forget that they were fairweather friends up to the moment they needed us.
@@CedarHuntyah that’s what isolationism is. Have you even actually read a history book?
@@baneofbanes Fascinating. So you'd say that China and India, and Iran and pretty much every country in Africa and South America are isolationist, too? None of them are subsidizing European defense, yet oddly, they still have trade relations and all kinds of things. 🤔
@@CedarHuntOh, grab a book pal. People in South America are most definitely isolationists. I do wonder about this. How much would you expect Ukrainians to trust a communications system provided by a Russian company? It's totally possible that the US allows it to happen on the understanding that they can use it to gather intelligence. The impact would necessarily be unclear, much like when the Enigma code was broken during WW2 - If everything said was acted upon then they would cease using it.

I remember mentioning how this problem would likely develop about a year ago on one your videos about Ukraine's attrition approach to the war. I feel like Russia has some level of desperation themselves to both end and win this war. The push strategy is an all in move to drain Ukraine's stockpiles so they have to surrender shortly after a trump election. The strategy backfires if Biden wins but even in that scenario Russia likely needs to end the war and the push might give them more immediate leverage seeing how US divisions on aid won't disappear with a Biden victory.
assuming the usa stays stable, at this point the chance of Biden winning is only a rigged election, if he wins, I hope the all the states who voted trump leave the union, as it will be clear that elections are meaningless.
