When I first learned autobody,30 yrs ago ,mind set was go for the center of the dent first, but as yrs passed, learned when car gets hit, first goes the center then goes the edges. And in autobody you work in reverse, which means last thing that got damaged is the first thing that needs attention.
Eddie Barrera, I remember those days. Paint and technology has changed drastically (metals too ) to make many repairs easier. PDR for some dents as well without the longer process. I’m an advert dyi guy . Learned so much from Jerry .
That’s why you’re the best body man on RUclips Jerry…I need to get a pogo stick because I possibly have a similar job like what you’re doing coming…great video as always!
@@UndergroundPaintKing I used a engine hoist handle and for the rubber foot I riveted a park brake pad on some sheet metal welded to the bottom of the handle and bent/ cut some flat stock for the hooks, all made out of scrap
You do really nice work. My dad was a body man but he stopped when I was about 3yo. We would occasionally do some work in the garage on an old truck and even did work on an old combine we had for the small farm. I’ve always wanted to get slightly more involved in body work but never knew exactly what to do or where to start. These videos along with the little bit of knowledge passed on from my dad are helping. I really appreciate the shorter videos and the to the point explanations.
Glad you enjoy them my friend. I'll make a video on the basic tools need to start doing body work - been wanting to do that for some time. Other than that, getting a project car/truck is best place to start. Any ?s just ask - I get to the comments (all) 1-2 times a day. 😊
Nice how you showed that you tacked the frame to the skin.Could have shown that first. Been there done that, if you know what I mean. Keep it coming! Thanks!
Nice work Jerry! I just made a shorty pogo today out of an old jack handle and some chain. I put it to use on my Ford Ranger using tabs welded in place like I’ve seen in your other videos. Works great! As always thanks for the great content.
That's great to hear 😊 Good idea using a jack handle 👍 You're welcome - those rangers are tough as nails. Had a 4 cyl ranger with 275000 miles on it - still ran like new when I sold it :)
Thx Jerry, I purchased a pogo stick last year, and have used it with great success. Thx again for all the great tutorials. Got the spot stud welder and some great pliars like you suggested. The right tools.
I like how you gently tap the outside. I think most people would tend to attack the center. It's that I would do. What I have done in the past. Very nicely done. You are an amazing instructor !!
Hi Jerry, well you did it again ;) awesome job. I take it thats the real expensive hood repair from last time?? Think i will have to make a pogo stick. Great job as always, have a great weekend
Always a pleasure watching your body work videos. I watched your. Video on removing pinstripes. But I had a better idea and it worked better for me. I used a heat gun and started peeling at one end while heating in front of where I was peeling and it worked great!!!!
Very nice repair . But darn. The rain was for just a few seconds.. i love working on cars whiles raining outside and the garage door is open and having a large supply of beer. Question - Have you heard of the "Steck 20014 stud lever" . I think this tool really helps with applying leverage to the welded pin while hammering on the highs. Please make a review of this tool. Have a good day man.
I agree with you on the rain my friend. I have heard of this tool - and I'll try to get a video done on it one day. Have a good weekend Petar - always a pleasure hearing from you 🛠😊

I don’t know how I would’ve gotten by without a pogo stick. For those without one, it should be on their list of tools to get.
Take care Jerry
You're absolutely right - It should be right up there with the DA 🛠😊✌

Thanks for the support Bill - not cool when the skin comes away from the inner panel - that's for sure - good to tack it first like you're saying 👍
I enjoy watching your work and how you explain it.👍

Good tip El Mero - all kinds of tricks out there - you can even use a blow dryer if you don't have a heat gun 🔥😊
Nice little video great job
Very nice work.
I thought that hood was to bad to fix.
Great job.
Take care, Ed.
Thanks Ed - have a great week my friend :)
It seems odd to me that you can pull a dent out while hitting in on it with a hammer, but there it is! You do excellent work, it's a joy to watch!
The hammer is just helping to convince the bent part to go where it needs to go 😊 Always good to hear from you SGS 👍
Great job Jerry.
Thanks Leigh - have a good week 🛠👍😊
Do you put on highbuild primer on before the filler so the rust doesn’t penetrate through the filler ?

I have rust on the drivers side door where the door meets the gasket. Can I still cut out the rust and reweld.
Yes - here's a video that may help with that - not sure if it is exactly what you are working on - ruclips.net/video/92mr0C62tq0/видео.html
Nice Job!
Great video
Nice work. You're the master !
Always good to hear from you Curtis - you always have something + to say 👍😊🔥
Now after grinding the area down to bare metal, do you clean the surface with any kind of cleaner or just put the filler on as is?
Just put the filler on. I think touching it with any thing at this point would hinder good adhesion - just an opinion though ✌

nice
Have you ever had any trouble with the studs not welding to your panels ?
Yes - not sure why they do that sometimes. Almost like the metal was not clean enough or something 🛠
@@LakesideAutobody
Yes, but prep like I always do thinking it could have something to do with the pens ?

Another great video! Do you disconnect the battery when using the stud welder or any kind of welding?
Yes. Never had a problem when I forgot to undo the negative batt cable but I do disconnect the battery when welding or using the stud welder :)
way to multitask, now if I could just walk and chew gum at the same time
good
