They could still play Rush material live even if they didn't write new songs. There's plenty of people out there who could do a good job with all the dereference and respect that Neil deserves. Why should Geddy and Alex be denied performing the music they've created over the years if they feel inclined one day?
Nobody except John Rutsy, who also passed away. Its a real shame, but there are a lot of great performances caught on camera and as Rush fans we are all blessed. My favorite is their live in Rio concert, I think it was in 2004 -awesome show!
I say we don't need anymore from Geddy & Alex, they've already given us 40 years of amazing music and high quality performances. If I'm hoping for anything, it's for Geddy & Alex to enjoy their retirement
@Col. George S. Patton, Sr. That's their choice not yours or mine as fans. They certainly don't need the money and at this point I don't see what their motivation would be.
I agree with you man. They don’t owe us anything further and gave many of us so much as it is. I’m sad that they are no more and that Neil has left us, but one of my favourite quotes...don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened :)
Much as I love Rush and certainly would enjoy more material from Geddy and Alex, I'm so pleased to hear you say this. Since R40 it seems everyone is like 'don't leave us - we want more' but for Pete's sake let the guys have a rest! Spend the time getting to like Caress of Steel - that should keep you going for a while!!
It's definitely sad... You figured they would sail out into the sunset together and all be gone at once... Maybe we'll see acoustic sets with Geddy and Alex in the future...
The best 3 member band ANYWHERE...without a doubt. I remember when Neil's daughter passed away in that accident....THEN Neil found out his wife had 6 months to live from cancer...it was a terrible time for the Professor...took ALOT to get through it...
They completely busted the myth that nice guys have to finish last -- Rush was a jewel in the rough, on so many levels. One of the most unique bands in the history of rock music, and not alone for the music and lyrics.
Hi John, Not surprised. Not only were these supreme musicians but above all else they were supreme human beings and honorable towards one another. As Geddy says.. they would never be Rush without Neil.... and let's face it.... drummers of his caliber are not of this world. I agree with all you said. Whatever they decide it needs to come from them. God bless them all, this the greatest triumvirate in rock. Take care and be well,
The most incredibly gifted band in rock history!!! There will NEVER be another band like Rush!!! Their body of work speaks for itself!!! And anyone with a brain understands how dedicated and loyal they were to the music and why they were always striving to improve, BOTH individually AND as a 3-piece musical machine. NO other bands in history were that creative and longstanding!!!
Rush’s mark in music is undeniable. Three decades of music, strong catalogue, lots of deep cuts to keep you busy for a long time, and incredible musicianship. As a fan, I really don’t need anything else from either Geddy or Alex.
Carlos, well said. Rush gave us what they gave us and "wow" nineteen studio albums and eleven live albums, I'm so glad they recorded it all for us to keep and enjoy forever. My son is the next generation of rush fans.
Bravado is a perfect song. Amazing Lifeson guitar solo, Geddy's voice is great in that song. And it's NP on the drums so no more needs to be said there
I can't imagine the pain he's feeling. Losing such an irreplaceable collaborator and musical brother. Alex is my all time favorite guitarist, but as much as I love his playing I want him to enjoy family life and retirement. RIP Neil "The Professor" Peart RIP Rush, the greatest Canadian band of all time
Yep, Rush is a band that had respect for each band member. And then you look at say, Van Halen, grown men who act like kids on a playground who can't get along, and time is just passing them by, and no sign of them being active anytime soon.
How is he throwing Van Halen under the bus? C’mon Dr. Stupid. Don’t show your stupidity with such a stupid comment. Out of all the stupid things I hear and read about on a daily basis, this has got to be the stupidest! Do you expect the world to believe after reading such a stupid comment, that you are also a Doctor? How stupid do you think we are? Huh? Dr. Stupid ANSWER ME!! ANSWER ME !! Oh so now what? Jeez Louise...Now you’re gonna play Dumb, are you? Let me guess. You went and seen Roth in Vegas and it sucked the intelligence right outta that cerebral cortex of yours. I knew it! I seen it on the news before it got buried by the corona virus....
Strangely the animosity that exists within VAN HALEN actually added that spark to the band’s music. CREAM, one of the power bands that inspired RUSH, imploded because the members, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton were too good for each other, leading to clashes followed by the breakup.
Just as Zeppelin couldn’t continue without Bonzo, Geddy and Al know anything new isn’t Rush. I look forward to the debut “Rash” album. RIP Professor. Immensely missed and never forgotten.
Its gonna be hard for Geddy and Alex to do anything else because the media is gonna sock a microphone in their face and remind them that Neil Peart has passed . Neil Peart stopped doing interviews after his wife and daughter passed away because the media would stick a microphone in his face and ask him how he feels now that his wife and daughter are dead . Its gonna be hard ( as a Rush fan ) to watch any RUclips video comments on Rush because every single comment will be : RIP Neil Peart ...miss you . My god what a loss of a great drummer RIP , RIP , RIP , RIP . Well News flash : Neil Peart cant see your comments . Of course everybody is sad Neil passed away .........but it will be torture for Geddy and Alex because they lost a friend , drummer , loved one .........and everybody that talks to them is gonna remind them of that every single time they open their mouth . Does people want Neil to rest in peace ? Then leave that thing alone and let the man rest in peace .
Neil still did interviews up until the last couple of years of his death, however, he did not do many. His wife and daughter's deaths are not the reason that you did not see him do many interviews, the reason is that he was a shy introvert that did not enjoy being in the public eye, it is the same reason he would often go to concerts by himself and sneak in the back door if he was able to and leave the same way, Neil and Geddy both talked about it during interviews.
I’m a younger rush fan who sadly started liking them in the same year their final tour date was. I never got to see them but for me I would rather see them get better and feel better than see them in concert. These are the kinds of people that come around only once every century and you gotta cherish them.
Yup, I can say the same about myself, except for the fact that I really discovered them in 2017. Amazing band, at least I can still enjoy their exceptional music.
They set an ideal nearly perfect example for their industry for how to self manage the business of being in a long term successful rock band. Not behaving like our greedy US Corporations or like Roger Waters and David Gilmore's mean spirited, devil-may-care tactical behaviors from Pink Floyd. They were in fact the opposite of that and I am extremely proud of their collective legacy. Mark in Seattle
Also to be considered is their ages. Like me, they're not getting any younger. I'm a 68-year-old bass player. i still play with some of my best friends (most of whom go back to high school days). The mind is most often willing, but the body inevitably slows you down, and it's no fun to play in pain (in my case, arthritis). I would imagine that Alex and Geddy are no different in that respect, though they may never allude to it. Also, I lost a bandmate three years ago, a victim of prostate cancer. I can't imagine how losing Neil hit Alex and Geddy, but I know how losing my friend of over fifty years hit me. The band didn't get together for almost a year, and even then it was dicey at best. We still dabble, but it's not the same. I have to guess that, to Alex and Geddy, losing Neil was at least as traumatic and will take some time for the healing to happen, if it does. I wish them both peace, and pray that they can once again find inspiration and a willingness to share with fans.
Time marches on. Before KISS got together for a recent reunion tour, they were went into physical training to get themselves back into shape since their live performances involved not only music but a lot of theatrics, special effects and a need to be in top physical shape.
He is still in grief. If he makes new music great but if he never returns to it he has left a great body of work. I for one can vouch that my teen years would've been miserable without the music of Rush!
The greatest band EVER. For every reason you stated. They don’t make musicians like these men anymore. I have followed them my whole life. Learned to play multiple instruments because of them. Listened to the music to guide my life. I have finally put my music aside. I have lost my drive also. The Sphere......
James, don't put the music aside! Yes, I too, learned to play multiple instruments because of Rush. Yes, I've been in a slump too with trying to write, create and record. It's OK to feel this way. Give it time. Grieve. That's what I've been doing. Hang in there and write and create when you can...
I was luckily turned onto Rush by a good friend, he said these guys are going to be big! And that was when Neil joined the band, this is a story of friendship and mutual respect and admiration of each other, they played music they loved and it showed and people picked up on it, they love Neil to much to just get a drummer, not going to happen, but hopefully they will get the itch to play again even as a duo...you never know...respect
Indeed,' The Garden ' from Clockwork Angels Album. My last Rush concert, Clockwork Angels 2012. Took my son, daughter, and her friend also. Amazing show w/ the strings ensemble.
I saw Rush twice live. I think it would be hard to do something of the calibre of Rush. Neil Peart was a great drummer. May Neil Peart rest in peace. Cheers!
As a retired pro musician myself. I had a few very dark periods in my life where just looking at my gear would bring what was troubling me right back to the forefront. Playing music live, in the studio, or to my walls was always my refuge and sanctuary until things involving music caused me serious grief. I went five years without even touching any of the multiple instruments I played, and I threw myself into the commercial job I had at the time and was able to put some of my creativity o a different type of use, but it was never the same. After caring for my Mom and her passing on a Christmas Eve 2000. I decided I was going to leave my home state and try to start my life over from scratch except at age 40. It took me a solid six months to begin to get my chops back and was lucky enough to find a band that was mostly into the 1990s Seattle sound, so I rarely had to solo giving me more time to get myself together while I was getting noticed by the local musicians in this completely new place in a completely different state. By the time that first band fell apart, I was mostly back and I felt I could play well enough to get back to all I used to do. I was once again lucky I met different people who all played different instruments and could sing lead vocals for the styles each if the four liked best with me being the fifth member who just sang the high harmonies. Quickest way to empty any venue is to have me sing lead! LOL. Once I got to know some of the club and bar owners, I’d joke with them that if they ever needed their place emptied in a hurry, just tell me to try and sing The Immigrant Song by Zep! LOL. Apologies for my rambling, but I watched this video and Alex’s feelings hit home with me and felt I should share my intimate knowledge of the feeling even though it was caused by other reasons. I wish both Alex and Geddy all the best in whatever they choose to do. Same goes for the entire RUSH family. You’ll never be forgotten Neil. Your presence is eternal in the lyrics and music that you’ve given to us. Thank you so very much, and goodnight.
Not a big fan but an admirer. These guys are special. Peart was a very rare human being. A zen master to be sure. When I think of all the petty BS that splits so many great bands up I think of the bond these guys had. It’s beyond the music it is just a realization of “until death do us part”
If Dirk and Lerxst ever play together again they need to call themselves "Leefson". But in all seriousness, I was really down for several weeks this winter after learning of Neil's passing. Only the danger of CV brought me out of it. And I'll never forget that for about 48 hours after his death was announced, a steady rain poured down on the Midwest of the US where so many Rush fans come from. I can't help thinking of this whenever I hear the lyrics of Bravado.
Well, they would certainly never call themselves Rush not even Rush 2. While some might point out that Rush existed before Neil joined the band the fact is that Neil made them what they were.
When the band announced their retirement, there was some talk about Geddy and Alex doing some solo work under the name "LeeLifeson." I said on a board like this one that they should have called it "WeinribZivijinovic" just to see how many people would recognize who it really was.
Such a big part of my life. Decades. Didn’t think it would stop like this. I’m just trying to be grateful of all the great musical experiences they’ve contributed to my life. I can’t imagine it being any other way. Truly beautiful. Thank you, Geddy, thank you Alex and thank you Neil. 🇨🇦👍✌️🤘👊❗️
I can totally understand how Alex and Geddy must feel. I have followed them since I was barely 14 years of age and I am currently 58. (Figure that one out)... my respect and admiration began then, long before most people even heard of their name. My first ever concert was RUSH when I was 15 back in March of 1977. CHEAP TRICK actually was a back up band at that concert. Another great band I learned to love and respect. The passing of Neil truly upset me as it did millions of RUSH fans. To this day it seems unreal to fathom in my mind. To everyone out there that plays music and loves RUSH, just know I am with you! We can’t change life but we can always remember and keep their music alive! It deserves to be, not only because it’s simply great but because the members of the band are also great! Canadians are so much cooler in general I believe and I am an American! 🇨🇦🇺🇸
How could you possibly know how they feel??? Few in human existence have experienced the things they shared together over decades. Haha come on, man. You can have an idea of how they might feel, but Jesus.... come on lol. I couldn't even imagine what its like. A not very common bond in life that very few have ever been a part of, felt and experienced. You do not totally understand how they must feel... said respectfully.
Just haven’t sunk in yet that Neil is gone. His skills were unbelievable. The man did things that other drummers just simply refused to do. I’m so glad I got the opportunity to see a few of their concerts before they retired. The greatest band on the entire planet 🌎! RUSH baby....
Nice update on Alex....let's hope he feels inspired to play a set with Geddy at the Night for Neil tribute concert in St. Catherines this fall, tentatively scheduled for Oct. 23, 2020RUSH is by far the greatest rock band to ever grace our planet....What an fantastic career they have had.40 years of touring and an incredible 19 studio albums....13 platinum and 6 gold......try naming a band that can match that outstanding sales record.I am so lucky to live here in Canada and see 57 amazing Rush concerts....thanks Alex, Geddy & Neil for for a lifetime of fond memories we will never forget.
I'm not surprised, every single thing they have done over the years has just been pure class. Great human beings. My heart goes out to Geddy and Alex, I know if a fan like myself can be so affected by Neils passing, it has to really be crushing for them. God bless Rush!
I absolutely love these guys. I came to the music many years after the fact. My way in was through their personalities, which shone through in a few documentaries I saw and culminating with "Beyond The Lighted Stage". The guys are so genuinely cool and inspiring, I started looking at their music differently, and slowly I became a fan. They have never disappointed as human beings, and I wish Alex and Geddy the best from life.
When they played "Losing It" live I knew something was up. But I still had no idea. I thought it was arthritis. (From my fading memory. Forgive my errors.) "Some were born to move the world To live their fantasies. But most of us just dream about the things we'd like to be. Sadder still is to watch it die Than never to have known it. For you the blind who once could see, The bell tolls for thee."
Alex is a class act all the way. I live in the same town as Alex did. I was a technical producer at the local tv news station. One day one of our shooters went to the local golf club to do a story on local business. While the shooter was with either the owner or GM of the golf club it was mentioned that Alex was currently playing a round and would they like to meet him. They went to see Alex and the shooter told Alex that the two guys in the control room were massive Rush fans. Me and my boss Jim. When the shooter got back to the studio he told us about the meeting and said he had a surprise. He put a tape in the vtr and played it. The shot opened on a close-up of a golf ball and then widened out. Alex walks into frame, looks straight at the camera and says "Oh, hi Jim. Mind if I play through?". He then hits the ball with a wedge and walks out of frame. It was super cool of Alex to do that and it made Jim's whole year. It was kind of like the time another guy at the station took a pass from Gretzky at the Pro-Stars media day...But that's another story!
It's interesting how other bands can have personel changes and keep moving forward in a repackaged format. As a result of the unique nature of the Rush musical catalog and the way Alex, Geddy and Neil got along, such a replacement simply cannot be done. It saddens me to think that I will never see another Rush concert. I was at the Comcast Theater In Hartford to witness their first concert (Vapor Trails) in 5 years after Neil's wife and daughter had passed. It was truly a revelation to see them again. I sometimes wonder if they had an accurate grasp of the energy in the room that night when they first came out on stage. I thought the theater was going to implode!
I’m not surprised. Mourning comes in many forms and has to take the time it takes. Some people can get over a death in days or weeks. Some take years. Some few can never recover fully. And of course “get over it” is a relative phrase. Do you ever truly stop missing a dear and long known friend? All we can do is love Alex and Geddy and thank them for everything they’ve already given us with no expectations of more to come. If we can be pleasantly surprised, we can welcome that as well. But if retirement in full is what is in store, then let them enjoy that and feel no loss for things that never were.
As a kid I remember saying something like "they sure do make a lot of noise for 3 guys." Not meant in the negative sense. They were an amazing trio & Neil Peart was one hell of a song writer! The wide range of subjects they covered was another reason I loved their music. Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, Subdivisions...Peart found inspiration everywhere. I recently read some of the inspiration for Workin Them Angels stemmed from a conversation he overheard from an elderly couple. Songfacts quotes him as saying "The wife was on her husband's case for driving like a maniac, saying he was "workin' them angels," meaning he was pushing his luck." haha Out of all the bands my parents introduced me to growing up Rush remains my favorite
Alex Lifeson is probably the guitarist who has inspired me the most as a guitarist, and Geddy Lee indeed one of the foremost inspirations on bass. As George Harrison and Paul McCartney taught me how to play, Lifeson and Lee certainly made me develope further into a higher dimension. I am forever greatful and hope they have found new inspiration.
I miss my band. I was just listening to the 1983 Signals Tour, have many recordings from this tour. Hearing Countdown, Analog Kid, Subdivisions etc is just way cool, the band was really on fire during this tour. Next up will be Hemispheres - have like 20 recordings from that tour...
They always seemed to be genuine and really cared for each other unlike some artists nowadays. I have always enjoyed listening to since the 8th grade and now being 48 I was glad my friend got me into them. I still can't believe my first Rush show The Presto Tour i was 2nd row.....
I remember when I was a boy growing up in Detroit and I heard "Spirit of the Radio"...I was BLOWN AWAY by the drums! The radio stations back then didn't routinely indicate the band who did the song, so I'd listen for HOURS to find out. I had always banged on stuff driving my mother crazy--(guess I'm a natural drummer?) . Neil was the reason I play the drums--he shaped my style and my philosophy on how drums and drumming can impact a song--I watched and re-watched "A Work in Progress" a billion times to understand Neils philosophy and technique to "serve the song" and "serve the listener". My heart still hurts that he's gone. Thank you, Neil for being here and for all the music that still gives me peace.
Loved watching this -thanks much! Have followed RUSH since I was in single digits, age-wise, & am now 51. Lucky to see them 5 times during my life, and introduce my wife (in the late 80s & daughter early 2000s) to their music, individual awesomenesses, etc. Read Neil's "Ghost Rider" while I was motorcycling on/around the East coast regularly. Amazing & inspiring people/musicians!
I saw RUSH in concert in 1990. Talk about an incredible show! With their ample use of technology, such as lights and lasers, they were even able to incorporate their sound checks into a mind blowing experience as lasers and lights beamed and flashed all over the place. When they were done, the audience applauded. Then came the performance where they played selections from “Presto”, followed by a 45 minute encore which was like being treated to another great concert.
The curtain closed forever at that last LA Forum show in 2015. They had an incredible run as a rock band, still picking up new fans every year. I'm just happy these guys met.
Love the vibe. If they need a name in five years time... because we will be lucky if anything else is written … they can be called the Finch and Leslie Duo. They were the talk of that neighbourhood all through the seventies.
The three of them were the best of friends and had a unique chemistry that is extremely rare. When you think about the history of Rush, the same guys together for more than four decades, and then see the turmoil, animosity, breakups, etc. of other famous bands in a turbulent music industry, Alex, Geddy and Neil were solidly rooted by their companionship, belief in their music and in each other, and dedication to being the best they could be. God bless Alex. Being a guitarist myself, he was one of my main influences, and Rush was my favorite band. To lose a close friend and bandmate would definitely take the wind out of your sails. The pain will eventually subside with time, and I hope Alex and Geddy can make music together again in the not too distant future. Rush has forever established its place in music history. RIP Professor, you are greatly missed.
I started listening to Rush in 1976 and was blown away by the talent of these three. They had the ability for all three to play lead at the same time and make it sound astounding. I saw them every tour that came within 100 miles and was always amazed. Will always be my favorite band. When I heard Neil had passed away I felt a shadow cross my heart.
I totally get it, there isn't anyone in their position that wouldn't feel the same, it was the same for Jimmy when Bonzo died, for quite a while he didn't touch his guitar, but unless something physically happens to prevent them, music is in their blood and in their souls, I'm more than certain try or not this whole experience is going to somehow powerfully translate into music for them both, together or separately, when you're a musician somehow or other life finds it way to your music and becomes how you identify and express thought emotion and circumstance, it translates into music, when it's time, it will come✌🏼️
I remember being 15 years old I had a very cool neighbor who loved music. He introduced me to smoking pot and Rush 2112 among many others, I was all in and instantly became a Rush fan. These guys are titans of the music world. RIP Neil Peart "my first drum hero".
That is totally understandable. When three separate personalties can blend like theirs did, it is literally a "once in a lifetime" event. There will never be anyway to attain again, the level they once had. Most bands only stay on the mountain top a very short time. Rush had a permanent address there. I'm happy for them. No need or pressure to do anything else IMHO.
Favorite band since the 80s. I was a drummer in the 90s and played in many places with a really good band. Some small arenas as well. Neil was my best teacher, and one of my heroes. When I hear a Rush song on the radio now, I start to cry.
One of the most disciplined bands to ever exist! Perfectionist consummate extraordinaries all of them. How do you replace Neal Pearl? You don’t ! You can’t! It’s completely understandable that Alex, and Geddy’s loss of such a vital kindred spirit that they enjoyed in Neal! What ever happens. Rush is and will always be the Epitome of a dominating factor of Rock Music in the 70’s-80’s-90’s millennium. In progressive rock music. But now that book must sadly, reluctantly be put up to enjoy as a Memory now. R.I.P The Professor Neal Pearl May your futures be bright continually and a gentle breeze upon your shoulders! Thank you for so many memories and defining my youth!
I recently lost my keyboard player , 52 years we played in the same band together, we were musical spirits. Even though I have replacements, I dont have the heart right now anyway.
I’ve been playing drums since I was 5 and heard of rush back in 1980 . I still play drums and still will play to rush. I’ve practiced to rush’s songs for many many years .ive seen rush in concert only like 4 times but they are really really REALLY great musicians . I still can’t believe Neil is not with us. R.I.P to my favorite drummer.
Great 👍🏻, just watched the Netflix doc on Rush - they had such overlap with prog, metal even Canadian roots! Love- thanks for this wonderful insight into the band members
Would anyone mind if I made it top SIX bands and include Queen? Most everything that was said about Rush also applies to Queen, except that Brian May and Roger Taylor still have the desire to perform at the top level they always have, and now that they have a new front man (Adam Lambert) who respects and admires Freddy Mercury, they can continue performing so that those of us who never had the chance to see a Queen concert live can do so. I'm sooo disappointed that I never got to see Rush live, but I will always have their albums to listen to, and I can always see live performances on RUclips. It's not the same, but it will just have to do, and it helps to get me through this COVID-19 catastrophe! It was absolutely awesome to get to know Rush through their music. RIP Neal.
Totally understandable. He and his bandmates had something magic and unique. Origanal in everyway. Im glad I was able to see you all. Its some of my fondest memories. I hope time helps you heal
I think the hard thing there is to get over being together with one of you missing. Not because of a delay or missed connection, but rather because they have passed away and you miss them so. How does that get pushed aside when you get together? They both are smart men and I know they have a great love for each other, so time will just do its thing and maybe something happens, maybe not. I got more than I deserve from them and I miss them is all.
Rush has inspired me my entire adult life... I think that for a lot of us who listened felt there was/is a level of sophistication and complexity to the music yet inviting us to join them in the journey. Playing guitar, Alex has been my primary example of how amazing he really is and horribly underrated. Words from me will never do them justice they deserve. Anyway, I'm going to really miss those guys. Thank you
Rush has always had so much class and integrity mixed with kind of humility along with such a high quality in everything including the music that has got me hooked since 79. I miss Neil terribly still...so I can understand Alex. Hey but we got all the memories. Thanks for posting.
Such respect. We the fans appreciate that respect.... thank you for reporting and, yes.... being respectful. A rarity in how media conducts itself. Again, thank you.
I myself over the past 2 decades have had a lot of family members pass away! I'm 48 and so can understand! One thing I can say is true that I found out getting older! Living is hard!!!!!
I Love Alex Lifeson. He's been a great inspiration for me as a guitarist. He is a phenomenal guitar player ( and seems like a hell-of-a nice guy - too ). People from Canada are generally awesome. oNe LovE from NYC
Just so happy that I was able to experience most of their existence as a band. Their music, their dedication to their craft, their humor, are just not matched by any other band. Miss Neil so much, but he gave us so many memories and great songs. RUSH ON........RUSH ON!
If they never make music again.....we all should be thankful for the 40 + years they've given their fans! Neil's passing has been devastating to every one that has come into contact with him. Either in person or just listening to Rush's music! My thoughts are still with Neil's family, as well as Geddy and Alex!
Same thing with Geddy-the whole inception of his upcoming memoir, My Effin’ Life, came about when friend and Big Beautiful Book of Bass collaborator Daniel Richler saw how Ged was struggling in the aftermath of Neil’s passing, and set about coaxing him out of his blues by sharing a story from his childhood, and then daring Ged to do the same. Ged did, reluctantly at first, and soon he was crafting the beginnings of what would become his memoir, which is due out November 14.
One thing that has always struck me about the guys in Rush is how down to earth they are. Lifeson, in particular, cracks me up. Just as Led Zeppelin could never really be the same without Bonham, Peart brought even more to the table for Rush with his lyrics. World class musicians that have brought me many enjoyable hours listening to their music through the decades from junior high to middle age. To Mr. Lee,Mr. LIfeson and posthumously Mr. Peart, thanks for being a class act throughout your career.
Even after the band is over, they're still so inspiring. I can't even imagine the grief, I don't have a similar friendship in my life, they are very fortunate. IF they pick their instruments together again, I'm sure it would be beautiful.
Two of the most influential drummers in my life are John (Bonzo) Bonham and of course, Neil Peart. Opposite ends of the rhythmic spectrum but in so many ways, much alike. I still think of Bonzo everyday. It's the same for Neil not long ago passed. In saying this, I can only imagine the since of loss felt by Alex and Geddy, not to mention family, friends and crew. But, these guys are all respected and loved world wide. And with the "Immense" musical library they've left us, at least in my mind and heart, 'The Traveling Road Show' continues. 'Why are we here, Because we're here Roll The Bones'... Thanks and Love you guys.💖💪👍
The countless musical gifts that Geddy, Alex, and Neil gave to us throughout their 40 years as RUSH is something very few bands in the entire world have ever accomplished. Any true RUSH fan knows of the toll this took on each of their lives, their freedom and their liberty. Sure, they're millionaires with mansions, but money doesn't buy you happiness, or give you a life. That's on you. And there are no do-overs. They have given, far beyond our expectations, and sacrificed a great deal. I get we all miss RUSH, but let's be real here. If Alex and/or Geddy were to do anything musically at this point, it should only come from within themselves and not from any pressure from fans or the public. I say, we can't thank them enough for what they have given us (think back...aalllll the way back). We need to be thankful for what we do have....their recordings, their music, their legacy. It is beyond enough. Asking for anything more at this point is just selfish and UN-CANADIAN! I say, "Cheers" to a long, happy and well deserved retirement. EH!? You can do a lot in a lifetime If you don't burn out too fast You can make the most of the distance First you need endurance First you've got to last
Rush is Geddy, Neil and Alex. I just can't see them playing with another drummer, out of respect. It must be tough for Alex and Ged right now. Prayers.
Neil’s passing really affected me on a deep level. I don’t get worked up over celebrity deaths either, but I’ve listened to a ton of RUSH over the years; I can only imagine how these dudes feel loosing their BROTHER...
Neil wasn't just Rush's drummer, he was The Lyricist. NOBODY could replace Peart, his lyrics were as thoughtful and powerful as his drumming.
@@Thelongesteconoline that was a good one. The boys were on that night.
@@frankblunt2482 Alex has arthritis, Ged's voice is blown (unfortunately for both).
For sure.
Alex Lifeson is perhaps the most overlooked guitarist in rock. Loved his style.
How many guitarists get outshined by their rhythm section?
No he doesn’t get outshined at all, rather the three of them are a well oiled music machine. Lifeson was Rush’s secret weapon, the musical scientist
That honour goes to Martin Barre of Jethro Tull.....check out the album ; Bursting Out . Barre is brilliant on it.
I never overlooked him. He is my guitar hero.
@@stratcaptain66 Just hear his solos on Signals... experimental and just awesome.
I say we don't need anymore from Geddy & Alex, they've already given us 40 years of amazing music and high quality performances. If I'm hoping for anything, it's for Geddy & Alex to enjoy their retirement
I agree. They could just occasionally jam in the basement of their mansions or just sip wine and watch baseball games on tv. It doesn't really matter.
@Col. George S.
100% correct
Much as I love Rush and certainly would enjoy more material from Geddy and Alex, I'm so pleased to hear you say this. Since R40 it seems everyone is like 'don't leave us - we want more' but for Pete's sake let the guys have a rest! Spend the time getting to like Caress of Steel - that should keep you going for a while!!
Three of the greatest musicians in Rock... no doubt. They started and finished perfect.. I will miss them..
Greatest musicians lol good one 😀
@@jeffdarnell7942 ever hear of Cream, ELP????
Well put
Rush showing what class means since 1974.
💯💯
Absolutely, the most professional, and classiest musicians in rock. The best band ever imo.
Compared to who? Lol
They completely busted the myth that nice guys have to finish last -- Rush was a jewel in the rough, on so many levels. One of the most unique bands in the history of rock music, and not alone for the music and lyrics.
Hi John,
Not surprised. Not only were these supreme musicians but above all else they were supreme human beings and honorable towards one another. As Geddy says.. they would never
be Rush without Neil.... and let's face it.... drummers of his caliber are not of this world. I agree with all you said.
Whatever they decide it needs to come from them.
God bless them all, this the greatest triumvirate in rock.
Take care and be well,
RUSH=CLASS ACT...RIP NEIL PEART ..
Yes RUSH =synergy 🤔
Agreed. They are immortal in our hearts.
*4 decades
RIP Neil "The Professor" Peart
RIP Rush, the greatest Canadian band of all time
He's my favorite guitarist as well. Highly underrated!
slight modification - top 3 greatest bands of all time in history worldwide!!
@@akeeperofoddknowledge4956 I wish he would record another Victor album.
Take the Canadian out of that...then you are correct.
Yep, Rush is a band that had respect for each band member. And then you look at say, Van Halen, grown men who act like kids on a playground who can't get along, and time is just passing them by, and no sign of them being active anytime soon.
Journey too
No use in throwing Van Halen under the bus , completely un called for .
Music needed that kind of fun attitude though.
Leefson
Zeppelin tried a few times with his son Jason. Yeah, he waslike his dad but was never the same sound
Good point and well said
Neil still did interviews up until the last couple of years of his death, however, he did not do many.
Neil did a lot of interviews from roughly 2007 until the band ended, but they didn't go into details about his personal life.
Well said
Many of us got to witness the best 3pc rock band that will ever exist.
@ArpMan Wrong, Mr. Know-nothing
Yep, the police were great
I’m a younger rush fan who sadly started liking them in the same year their final tour date was.
“Closer to the Heart” has a renewed meaning with all the social & political turbulence going on these days.
1.5 meter from the heart
So does Subdivisions
So that's why I've been playing that song so much lately 🤔
And the men who hold high places must be the ones to start, to mold a new reality, Closer to the ❤️! They were talking about Trump! Trump 2020
@Bobby Boombatz...trump certainly holds a high place, but seems more interested on buying a stairway to heaven than bringing folks together.
Alex does have arthritis.
My condolences for your friend and bandmate, I hope you can enjoy music as much as possible even if nothing is the same as before.
Well said! Sorry for your loss.
😔😔
And that was when Neil joined the band, this is a story of friendship and mutual respect and admiration of each other, they played music they loved and it showed and people picked up on it, they love Neil to much to just get a drummer, not going to happen, but hopefully they will get the itch to play again even as a duo...you never know...respect
...the measure of a life, is a measure of love and respect...
Garden
Ya I wondered if they would change the name but they were Rush before Neil joined. I think they'll play again
Neil Swan join forces with Metallica under a new name!

I really miss these guys!
How Rush managed their egos is legendary and something worth studying and emulating.
The love they have for each other sets them apart as much as their musical legacy. It’s really beautiful.
Forgive my errors.)
"Some were born to move the world
To live their fantasies.
But most of us just dream about
the things we'd like to be.
Sadder still is to watch it die
Than never to have known it.
For you the blind who once could see,
The bell tolls for thee."
Rush is one of those bands that you can't just remove one member and still have the same band. All three are irreplaceable.
RUSH's track record will stay at the top forever. Very well done guys. RIP Neil. 👍
Complete opposite of Waters vs. Gilmore.
As well as Hodgson and Davies
And i would say most of that "Conflict" is all from Rodger... I really don't like him at all!!
Mike Wilson ain’t that the truth!!!
No question. They knew how to work it out until the very end. Very rare.
@@leddygee1896 You can dislike Roger all you want, but there's no Floyd without him.
When one side of the fire triangle is gone, the fire goes out.
Exactly!!
I agree but was he the oxygen or the fuel because the heat was all 3 members. I believe fuel 😕
Ya ok... you also told us the world was gonna end in the year 2000.
I feel him. When my drummer died I couldn't find the passion to play either. Still can't, 7 years later.
I'd love to see Alex and Geddy tour again with Neil's drum taped in... with video of Neil playing...that would be truly special. Just a thought.
One of my favorite trios! Thanks!
The curtain closed forever at that last LA Forum show in 2015.
They had an incredible run as a rock band, still picking up new fans every year. I'm just happy these guys met.
Alex was my hero in my journey to learn to play. I graduated h.s. in 81 so it was during their golden years. I’ve always felt fortunate about that.
Love the vibe. If they need a name in five years time... because we will be lucky if anything else is written … they can be called the Finch and Leslie Duo. They were the talk of that neighbourhood all through the seventies.
I understand completely. Lifeson has other outlets, though. He paints, he acts. Music will always be there for him. There's no hurry. 🎶💛🔥
I'm just happy to here something from RUSH. My favorite band since 1976. Thank you forever guys.
@Jason Heilinger That's so cool. Alex said our early fans where all men, not true.
Rush is and will always be the

My top five bands: Zep, Yes, Sabbath, Rush, Floyd
RIP Neal.
I didn't realize how upset I am over Neil's departure until I went back later and saw that I spelled his name incorrectly. Sorry, please forgive me.
"Suddenly, you were gone...from all the lives you left your mark upon." RIP Neil Peart. Thanks for the music, memories and great sense of humor.
Grief can be like that. We all respond so differently to loss. Thank you for sharing.
RUSH is a Canadian band. And Canadiens are the nicest, coolest people on the planet. That’s why they were able get along so well.
I Agree with you.
Thank you
Here is a more recent interview with Alex, Time heals all wounds ! ruclips.net/video/vR6bbACCqE0/видео.html
All three of them were equally talented... That's how they stayed together all those years.
Tks for the update man!! It's good to hear news from Rush since Neil passed away
Thanks so very very much for the update on my favorite band.. I hope they play as Lee and Lifeson.!
Man I miss these guys. I think how they treated each other reflected in what they provided to us. There will never be another band like this.
They made me want to play....they inspired me to work hard at practicing...to be the best player I could be....they are truly the musicians band......
'Why are we here,
Because we're here
Roll The Bones'...
EH!?
You can do a lot in a lifetime
If you don't burn out too fast
You can make the most of the distance
First you need endurance
First you've got to last
Rush is Geddy, Neil and Alex.
