  • Anti-obesity jabs could reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes or heart failure in obese people regardless of the amount of weight they lose while on the drug, according to a study.
This suggests the treatment could have effects beyond reducing unhealthy body fat, researchers said.
A team led by Professor John Deanfield, of University College London (UCL), used data from the Select trial, which was conducted by semaglutide manufacturer Novo Nordisk.
The five-year study explored if the drug - sold under the brand names Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus - could reduce the risk of heart attacks or stroke in obese people without diabetes.
It comprised 17,604 adults over the age of 45 from 41 countries.
Talk’s Mike Graham is joined by NHS GP Dr Renee Hoenderkamp who slams the injection, as side effects are not being explained.

Statins are also terrible. Don't go near them.

I fainted last March due to dehydration after suffering a bout of Norovirus. I fractured my skull which caused a brain bleed and I was in a brain trauma unit for six weeks. I have recovered quite well, but my GP clinic has been pestering me to take statins. I’m 62 and an extremely fit runner and up to date with my blood tests, so my kidneys, liver, blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol are all normal. I have no idea why my doctor wants me on statins. I’ve told them they can shove their statins 🖕

@@eveoakley6270I just have high cholesterol age 64 and they are pushing statins at me. No way am I going to take their poison. I am fit and healthy otherwise. My Mum was put on them at 80 and they are not even recommended for anyone 75 and over. I managed to convince her to stop taking them and her muscles have got more or less back to normal. She seemed to be heading to wheelchair. She is 95 now and walks me round the shops once a week.

When I was at school we learnt how to cook from scratch. Good healthy meals cheaper than supermarket ready-made meals or takeaways. I blame the government for stopping cooking classes in school.

I first heard of Ozempic on New Year’s Day of 2022 when I noticed my uncle had lost weight. He told me he had been prescribed Ozempic by his GP because of his Diabetes type 2. I knew without doubt that this drug was going to take off and end up in the hands of the wrong people.

Baloney. I have been on Zepbound since January. I have lost 34 pounds. I’m off most all my medication.
I was near death. Overweight, high cholesterol., depression, couldn’t get out of bed.
I’m now off most all of my medication. I look great. I feel great. There have been little side effects with this medication. I am moving. I have a productive life again.
    This medication saved my life.

Regulated by OFCOM. My hat goes off to this doctor though because she has always been consistent. I live opposite a pharmacist and I can’t park anywhere these days. The UK have gone on Medication overdrive.

She's showing her GP status. She is spewing misinformation... Pancreatitis is common in overweight and diabetics which took part in the study. So the drug gets the blame.
Ozempic face isn't a thing, losing weight makes you lose facial fat no matter the method chosen.
Hair loss is not the drugs fault, drastic weight loss causes hair loss no matter what method used to lose weight!
How embarrassing that she doesn't know this!

Don't think you've got the point she's making. 'asked for the data and was refused', 'people leaving the trial, because of side effects'. but hey, that's the trouble with people like yourself, you only answer the points you want to.
