Could you talk about how to crate train a younger pup please Charlie? Do you just let them cry it out? Don’t have the opportunity to do things gradually as do not have an outdoor kennel. Our other dog is older and sleeps in a different room. Any advice very much appreciated

My Cocker pup took naturally to a crate.... She seems to enjoy the security & happily retires to her "bedroom" around 9pm when shes sleepy... I lock her door & dont hear a peep from her until the birds wake us all up in the morning.... When I hear her ears flapping about around 6am I know its time for her to go outside... 😄

Funnily enough, I’ve never used a create in my life, just a choice, however I do use a similar technique going through gates and doors so the dog doesn’t go rushing through it let’s me keep control and excitement down. Timing is everything!

Still using the crate regularly during the day with Scout and controlling how and when he gets around the rest of the house. Good to hear it's ok to do this and stick with the gradual introduction.

I do this imprinting as litter mates at around 8 weeks. I put a pair in a crates after exercise and let them play it out. In 5 minutes their asleep. I give them an hour and go wake them up. When they get comfortable they get to spend time in their own crate.
Note: there’s always a crate in the puppy pen so they get used to it and going in and out.

Such a useful demo of the theory. Thank you.
Loved the tip about the crate type, wish I had known it earlier - you are so right!

I have been enjoying your approach. This was a great video. I was woken up by dog screaming in one of those fold down crates because a foot was caught. The foldable crates are not safe to leave a dog in. From my experience at least. Great videos, love your attitude, Cheers!

Cable ties secure it from collapsing. Not easy to transport of course but for a home crate it’ll give peace of mind

Hi Charlie, really enjoying your videos as we build up to welcoming our cocker pup in January. Could I ask where you got your crate from please? Many thanks.

Is the size the crate important? is it best for it to be snug or can it be oversized ? Thank you

Do you just put the water bowl in the crate overnight? I can just see it being tipped over in the first minute

Question, is it expected that as a puppy gets to around 6-8 months they will start to challenge more,
Couple of months ago my lab was seemingly good as gold and coming on great training going really well,
I haven't changed anything and have the same training schedule with him (every day for half hour to an hour) sometimes twice a day.
Only thing I can think of is he's just getting abit older and seeing what he can get away with?

It’s important to stick with your training routines and structure through the” terrible teens” phase. They are maturing and starting to get their own ideas. When they are small puppies they only want to be with you but as they age up they find value in other things and yes just exploring their boundaries. Don’t take your foot off the gas!

@@MordorGundogs22 raw bones are best. Cooked bones splinter. Stay with your dog just in case he tries to swallow a piece and chokes.
