  • Ulsterbus 64G Enniskillen. Sligo Road by Double Decker Bus.
Diesel Buses are predominant in this part of Northern Ireland with most buses run by Ulsterbus being Single Deck Buses. However Double Decker Bus use has increased over the years in County Fermanagh.
Here the Ulsterbus 64G leaves Enniskillen Bus Station and heads along Wellington Road towards Enniskillen Castle & Museum, from the Island Town crossing the River Erne. The Ulsterbus passes the towering two churches of St Michael's Roman Catholic Church as well as St Macartin's Cathedral Church, Church of Ireland.
St Michael's Church is in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Clogher with St Macartin's Cathedral in Monaghan.
St Macartin's Cathedral is in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Clogher (the other is St Macartan's Cathedral, Clogher), which are in the Ecclesiastical Province of Armagh.
The castle and town were expanded during the Plantation of Ulster with County Fermanagh being home to the Maguire clan. Enniskillen Castle was built in the 15th century as a stronghold of the Maguires, before coming under English control in the early 17th century.
    Fare thee well Enniskillen
The 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons was a cavalry regiment in the British Army, first raised in 1689 as Sir Albert Cunningham's Regiment of Dragoons. One of the regiment's most notable battles was the Battle of the Boyne in July 1690. It became the 6th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Dragoons in 1751.
It would later become known as the "Enniskillen Dragoons", after Hamilton's headquarters at Enniskillen Castle.
The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers was an Irish line infantry regiment of the British Army in existence from 1881 until 1968. The regiment was formed in 1881 by the amalgamation of the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot and the 108th Regiment of Foot.
In terms of the British Army and Enniskillen is the one town that raised two regiments which saw engagements in Waterloo, Crimea and the Boer War as well as the First and Second World Wars and other battles as can be found in the The Inniskillings Museum.
Inniskilling was the original name of the town - anglicised from Irish meaning 'Island of Kathleen'. Since then the name has changed around 20 times before finally settling on its present spelling of Enniskillen
