I worked at Tesla starting in July of 2017 as an Operations Analyst out of the Bethlehem, PA distribution center facility and left as a Program Manager based out of Austin, TX as of September 2021. I spent most of my time in the distribution and supply chain organizations.
Before Tesla, I was a Director of Business Intelligence and Pricing at the largest Pet Food & Supply distributor in the US, Phillips Pet Food & Supplies based out of Easton, PA. My wife and I also owned a small business in Bethlehem, PA between 2016 and 2019.

No mic needed for emergency vehicles. The car needs to see direction of vehicle to respond correctly. With the advantage of seeing in every direction a mic is mostly redundant.

The microphone inside the car works fine. I was on the phone with my wife, who was in the car, and I heard sirens from her end.
As for the privacy thing, it is no different from the internal camera that is always on already.

Microphones shouldn't be needed for yielding to emergency vehicles - fire and ambulances always run with lights and siren but in some cases, police run lights only so as not to alert suspects they are en route or close to arriving on scene. No emergency vehicles run with just a siren so RT would really need to be able to react to emergency lights only.
Training the robots with humans is amazing. seems like anything that can be done by the human in the training setup is fair game for the tesla bot to be trained to so. Imagine bringing in pro soccer players and training the bots to play soccer at the highest human level, or whatever field. The next step will be to be able to let the AI determine the best approach w/o the human training, like the generational AI approaches do.
Emergency vehicles use strobes at a particular frequency that force traffic lights to change. This technique may also be applied to self driving vehicles by adding a transponder or emitter on emergency vehicles that may be sensed but the FSD system.
Worth noting that the application of genuine FSD as applied to -commercial- trucks: The routes that 18 wheeler freight trucks (e.g. Tesla Semi) must use are more limited than what you and I expect. Freight haulers must use an alternative to Google maps that takes into consideration weight limits on roads and especially overpasses (these differ by state), and height restrictions when traveling under overpasses. These are things passenger cars never have to consider.
There are companies that provide these route planning services already and these will have to be the ones used in this commercial context.

I remember when my studying Warren Buffett led me to invest in Apple in 2008. I didn't consider not buying Berkshire H stock to be a disconnect. I did have a moment in 2012 when Berkshire invested in IBM. Gee had I made a mistake? Should I jump ship? Then in 2016 Berkshire sold it's position in IBM at a loss. Mr Buffett admitted it had been a mistake, and Berkshire began buying Apple. A few years later he said he wishes he could buy the whole company. 2016 was also when I started buying Tesla, deeply bothered that I hadn't done it sooner.
So Mr Buffett with all respect does seem to be following me by about 8 years... In almost everything else he remains the Oracle.
the talk about labor disruption means very high confidence regarding Optimus. It's a done deal they seem to say. I'm glad they're very optimistic.
I know the bot is only placing a single battery at a time, but paves the way for installing parts on an assembly line: imaging 2 or 4 bots per station, working in concert.
Regarding emergency vehicles, why couldn't there be some form of communication between the EMV and the Tesla/EV telling the EV to pull over and stop. Thanks, Roger
Instead of those sensors worn by employees doing simple tasks, I suspect the majority of Optimus’ training will be through Neuralink. As the confidence in Neuralink’s safety increases, the easier it will become for people to be comfortable with it being implanted. If the procedure becomes as safe as “tonsil removal”, I can see 100 farmers and 100 construction workers agreeing to Neuralink implants that are only activated at their workplace. Especially with a stipend.

Hopefully they can get the Tesla bot's other arm to work too. They are only getting 1/2 the labor out of it, right now! Also maybe it could also be trained to grab two battery canisters with one hand using its palm and fingers. Lots of opportunity for improved throughput!

It’s not much…maybe 10 shares, I still like EVs despite all the crap going on these days. I heard on “Autoline” that gasoline demand has stalled out because of EVs. That’s good because it puts a lid on how much they’ll go up during the summer. It’s also good because it hurts the cartel we all love to hate…OPEC. Heard you’re expecting a new member of your family. regarding the microphone: They are going to be implementing a "Hey Tesla" type feature which wil replace the voice control actions but could even answer more questions like how did my ball team do last night. But if it is always on, it could listen for ambulance alarms. The way most of those items work is they are listening for specific tones, and no data leaves the device for it to happen. A purpose built version is very low power and just wakes up the rest of the computer.
Hey Joel, I made a comment above so at the risk of being redundant, I don't think a microphone is needed for emergency vehicles. Fire/ambulance always use lights and siren but police sometimes use lights only so suspects don't know they are near. So all emergency vehicles use lights and only sometimes sirens meaning that if RT can respond to emergency lights only, all bases would be covered.
@@brianp8384 Oh actually, I completely agree. I forgot I had that thinking as well. In the city, you can hear sirens all the time and sometimes you can't even gauge if it is coming towards you or not. The sound bounces off of buildings in odd ways and you lose the sense to directionalize it.
But you can always see when they are near and that is when you should pull over or yield in someway. Great point.

I am excited about the future of the Tesla bot, but I do think there is a lot of work to be done. If you consider that a factory worker doing such a task might cost the employer $55,000 per year, including health insurance for full-time work. If the bot performed at the same speed as a human, and worked 24 hours a day, and had a cost of $1 million for a single bot, it would take six years to make that robot worth the investment, assuming no maintenance cost for the bot, and no workers compensation payments for the employee. Based on that video, the bot is working at probably 20% or less of the speed of a human. That means it would be approximately the equivalent of 30 years to make that $1 million investment worthwhile as of today. It is definitely moving in the right direction, and with neural nets progress will be fast and furious, but much work remains.
I believe Elon was talking about eventually selling bots in the $36k range. That changes the equation dramatically.

At 36K, and at today’s speed of function, that would be just about a one to one trade off. And of course the speed will get faster.
$1M? Brian said it. These bots aren't going to cost more than the cars at scale! As Brian said, if they do cost Tesla say, $25K to make, if they can work at a comparable speed, they could be paid off in a few months!

Looking to divide and conquer? He is more effective focused on his region rather than spread too thin. Nothing wrong with being a weapon in a specific area where the benifits are greater. Ie better have people in a place they are most efficient. Also Family and familiarity might be important to him. Maybe he doesn't like his old role.

Software engineer here. That would be really cool, but with out some major breakthroughs in the field, with the way that models have to be trained, I can tell you that certainly will not happen. I for one love the enthusiasm though!!

I think you may change drastically within a few hours of holding your child. You may find yourself wanting to be much more proactive in making the world a better place. Just reporting on things and sharing opinions may no longer be enough.
Not criticism here as we highly value your opinion and insights. However sharing these things may not guarantee good things will happen, making a better world. Sometimes rolling up your sleeves and doing something yourself is the only way.
So while you take paternity leave think about what you yourself can do to make the world your child will live in better. All of us need to do this. If not for our own children we can do it for yours.
Buffet is a value investor. Stocks he feels are depressed by the market with long term potential. He may not like the volatility of the short sellers.
As you pointed out and Warren directly said BH don’t like high risk. Tesla is very risky and volatile especially with Elon’s looming of the re-affirmation of Elons comp package. If that doesn’t get re-approved, Elon may walk. If that happens, the stock will tank.

Half the world thought the brothers were crazy, even Orville Wright thought it would take 500 years to get planes to fly. 5 years later they were flying figure 8's and staying in the air for one and a half hours.

Warren never invested in Microsoft or Amazon. They look at Apple less like a tech company and more of a smart phone company that produces one that has a moat.

They like quiet and relative consistent income with minor blips and a strong broad following. Slow and steady along with ones that do better in bad economies as well. Not a bad model and easy for those who do not want to worry much about investing in them. If it was a Ponzi scheme it would have folded a long time ago.

Buffet invests based on the teaching from Benjamin Graham The Intelligent Investor. This means 1. invest only in PROVEN companies and 2. Only if the valuation makes sense. Investing in Tesla at this point in time is investing in the belief in Elon Musk and the Tesla team that they will fully solve autonomy and mass produce the robots. This is technically not yet proven. I could see Buffet buying Tesla only once those prospects have materialized and start bearing fruit to the bottom line (net income) and that’s if he’s still alive by that time. At the end of the day Buffet is just not the type to invest in cutting edge technology companies.

Tesla will build out dedicated Megachargers along known routes of first companies to buy them as they have already done in their pilot project with Pepsi.
And chargers will be built at the larger customers locations..
Chargers at loading docks so semi can charge where it is already sitting and waiting for load/offload.
Huge chargers at places where they will load and unload and eventually a ton of places across the USA that will span 40 acres probably - something like that. They probably only needed to be located around 200 to 250 miles away from one another
You really think closing down the US Supercharger team means they won't move forward with Supercharging? 😅 They can do it for a fraction of the cost in China. This is unfortunate for the staff, but good for Tesla and share holders. So many people think they are smarter than Elon 😅

Love your videos Farzad! I’m surprised you believe in evolution though, it makes no logical sense that the order of the universe came from disorder or chance. Even when you’re talking about the design of the human hand, you had to say, “Evolution Decided” or something like that. That statement speaks to intelligence - a designer.
