Nothing...NOTHING is more New York than Simon and Garfunkel. I can only roll my eyes and sigh when I get puzzled looks from people when I say this. Thank you, Paul Simon, for the music and the poetry.
Paul, I heard "The Boxer" for for the first time when I was about 10 years old. I lived in Brazil then and did not speak English. Your music, your voice, was one of the reasons I wanted to learn English, as I wanted to understand what it was this man was singing about. As I slowly did learn the language and words, it made tears run down my face. 45 years later, it still does after all these years. Gratitude.

Mr. Simon, I'm 18 years old from Texas and want to thank you personally for this song. Early last year, I lost my younger teenage brother to suicide. Later, that September, we celebrated his 16th birthday. I remember I'd started listening to "the Boxer" heavily at the start of September, after hearing Heart perform it at their concert in August. It was a confusing and stressful time in my life and I woke up every day having to force myself out of bed. School sucked and I dreaded it, but I had about 5-10 minutes of happiness every day that I looked forward to. When I'd come home mid-day for lunch, I'd spend a few minutes strumming through "The Boxer" and singing it in my empty house. Sometimes I'd barely eat anything just so I'd have more time with the song. I felt full and truly happy when I played it. I listened to it non-stop. "The Boxer" got me through the month of September, and it will always be one of my favorite songs. So thank you for writing it. Much love through this virus mess.
So Sorry to read this my friend. Though I don't know you, I will include you in my prayers tonight. God and music can both help you find peace...Blessings from England
Music helps ease the pain. I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. I know how you're feeling, I lost my father to suicide 19 years ago this June when I was 20 years old.
Please take care of yourself. I am from Hong Kong and I saw so many young people who were injured last year and now we have this coronavirus that has death counts every day. Take courage! Many years later, when you look back, you will be proud of yourself.

Dear Paul Simon, This is one of the songs I sang to my father during his process of dying. To acknowledge his difficult life and to celebrate his perseverance to do his best despite the hand he was dealt. I also sang it for myself for many of the same reasons but also to emphasize that this life has choice to be conscious and kind and living in peace no matter what. That was 30 years ago now. Thank you for your timeless word portraits wrapped in the magic of music. And, For all of us, the difficult times may be here now but we can choose to live with kindness and in peace. We lift us up.
For me also, this song has carried me though many tough times. There is something about the image of the boxer who despite being beaten and bearing the scars of life nevertheless persists and goes on. It's the strength in all of us that this song has always symbolized for me and it never fails to give me hope. “The Boxer” has been at the top of my list for over 50 year’s. I never thought I would see it preformed live by Paul Simon. A couple of years ago Paul played the Starlight theatre here in Kansas City. When he played “The Boxer” I cried like a baby, a blessed moment in my life. One I’ll never forget.
I know that feeling thanks for sharing! I’ve been a fan of Gilbert O’Sullivan since I was a boy... then one day about five years ago I saw an ad at the concert hall (where I used to go drink coffee) that he’s performing live that evening!! And just nice a FB friend from KL visited me in Singapore and she’s also a fan so I bought two tickets and couldn’t believe I was watching him live after a few decades!!
Paul, thank you very much. I couldn’t imagine life without your songs. They have comforted me for nearly fifty years - and obviously I’m not the only one.
💞 always amazing Mr. Paul Simon. Lost my Dad this April, just 3 months after his 90th birthday. Very few regrets, but always wished he and I got to see one of our GREATS together in concert.... Bless Paul Simon for these recordings. How many of us would ever be able to hear this astonishing musician unplugged and playing in his own home in real life? It's like his generosity and loving-kindness to offer these oases of beauty and quiet in tumultuous times. Love to all the New Yorkers he's dedicated this one to. And thank you, Paul Simon. ("Now the years are rolling by me, they are rocking evenly" brought tears to my eyes.)

Dear Paul, I'm writing this to say thank you, I was 11 years old when I saw the concert in central park for the first time in 1982, you and Art's music had me spellbound, and started me on my incredible journey to pursue music, and it stared with your Paul Simon Songbook. I spent hours going through the songs in that book, eventually creating my own arrangements of your songs for my Friends and I to perform for our families. Ever since then My love of music has grown, and your Collaborative work with different styles has inspired me greatly. to expand my musical knowledge and create my own small collaborative projects. Music truly has no Borders. Thank you Paul for giving me and my handful of friends a direction in life. Lots of Love and Respect, Ian.

She didn't say it was the same as the original. She said it was *as beautiful* as the original. Which is fair, since beauty is in the eye (ear) of the beholder. And there is is beauty in a young man wise beyond his years singing a new song he's written; and beauty in an old man singing the song he wrote nearly a lifetime ago, now beloved by millions, and sharing it in a simple way to lift up the suffering and frightened in a dark time. Both beautiful.
I've loved "The Boxer" my whole life. From the time I first heard it as a young boy in the early 1970s. It's meant different things to me at different times in my life. But today it takes on a whole new level of bravery, and hope, grief, beauty, and courage. Rock On, Paul Simon!
It's probably one of the more profound, heavy songs ever written. A lot of people thing that song need to be heavy or loud to make an impact, this one does it with a whisper as gentle as a candle flame. -- right up until the tragic end where storms, steam ships and industry dive in.

My first big date was to a S&G concert. I was 14. I played my Homeward Bound record (a 45?!) over and over. To have this gift from Paul Simon now ties together what feels like a number of distinct lives I've led. One of those lives was 22 years long, in the world's greatest city NYC. It was during the AIDS crisis. And since I was in the arts, I lost over 100 friends and colleagues to that beastly disease. Now I live in a remote part of the Rockies. My door is locked at night mostly because of bears. But my heart holds all you New Yorkers close, and I send you much, much love.
When I first listened to your songs , I did not even understand english....it was over 45 years ago. Thank you for everything. I hope this great song will reach the heart of New York. Greetings from France
I’ve been a one man circus performer busking for twenty years plus, often I cry out in my anger and my shame, but the fighter still remains. Love this man, your poetry has made some sense in the madness this world has thrown at me. God bless you.
its only a musical god who can perform in the back yard 50 odd years down the line and still get the same love and respect from more than 50 years of fan base...genius musician with a beautiful soul who will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the years!
His farewell concerts ended with the stage blacking out and only him and his guitar, just like this. To me, that's where it begins and ends -- if you can't lift someone up at that level, the foundation of the music will never be as solid.
There is something so profoundly elemental about seeing an icon of Paul Simon's stature perform a time-honored classic like The Boxer in such a spartan setting. I can't recall being so riveted to a performance of any kind in a long, long time.

I cant put into words how he lit up my quite dreadful life when I was a young man, shit little record player in a shitter flat though it felt ok when Paul Simon was throwing beautiful imagery around the room wrapped in a perfect melody. The Sir Paul of America. Saw you at Rutgers so long ago. Put on the gloves and protect yourself you old boxer. Thanks for your kindness
Paul has that little something that's so important in a musician -- not attitude, not looks, but talent...
Pure talent, really.
He looks great though
Disagree with “no looks”
He was beautiful when he was a young man.
Pure and simple... Paul Simon is a musical genius. I adore him, his talent and his timeless music.
❤The fighter still remains. You are a warrior with a guitar. Love you.
So many emotions, I tear up. Thank you, Mr. Simon, for everything.
When I hear the boxer from Paul Simon, his voice was extremely beautiful making me wanting to cry...He is the best, He really is.
Thank you dear heart♥️🙋‼️what a treat in these times! Love you so much🦋🙏🏻🌟🙋♥️‼️
There is still silk in his voice and magic in his hands.
I'm here on the west coast, but I can feel his love for his fellow New Yorkers all the way here.
The voice of a thousand angels!
The perfect song for the most imperfect of times. Mr. Simon, you have my gratitude.
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Oh you lucky ducky. I started crying like a baby the second I saw the thumbnail for this video.
Happened to me when i saw Paul McCartney playing Yestersay... I hope see paul alive some Day, soon.
Ooh you’re so lucky !!!!
Wish I could give you decades of thanks for your decades of music and poetry.
My God. This man is still rockin. God Bless you Paul.
Paul Simon, Elton John, or Billy Joel. Your music will always bring me close to him... thank you for that 🤗 .... leading me home ❤️
Great then, great now, great always🎶💟
Love the acoustics!
Your music has meant and still means so much to me. Greetings from Sweden!🌻
Very well said.
It is simply so beautiful. I just think about Paul’s story, and all he has done, and how he’s keeping us going, even through one of our darkest hours. It is both happy and sad.
wonderful post.
Saw him front row in Omaha 6 years ago 2014? Great song and person
Speaking of “able to hear”, was the microphone afraid of getting CV19?
These are the total voice efforts that have been made for the following of the country and of allowing no presence of puzzles and of new absent Thank You!
Tears in my eyes...wish you well and good health - beautiful as always!
Thank you so much Paul, you're an incredible inspiration in music and life in general. American hero.
I myself contributed to 200 views alone, what a great artist, thank you Paul😘😊
Thank you so much for this gift during these crazy times.
Thankyou made a scared old man cry with a smile, I miss my children and my grandchildren, let’s win this war.love Mr Simon from Nova Scotia
That's so beautiful.
The best song writer singer for me. Thank you for all the brilliant songs over the years!
I dread to think how many times Paul has performed this and he still puts every ounce of his soul into this performance. May your god bless you sir and thankyou forever and longer
totally heartbreaking - you can hear the pain in his heart for his beloved NY - God bless America !
Yeah he's probably thinking of how Cuomo has wrecked NY. A Daddy's boy born on third base.
@@gungagalunga9040 Go fuck yourself, troll.
Dear Paul,
I'm writing this to say thank you, I was 11 years old when I saw the concert in central park for the first time in 1982, you and Art's music had me spellbound, and started me on my incredible journey to pursue music, and it stared with your Paul Simon Songbook.
Lots of Love and Respect,
Ian.
Imagine writing such an impactful song in your 20's and then playing it with the same impact 50 years later. Incredible Paul!
"Still a man hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest." Beautiful, Paul!
All lies & jest...Newscorpse.
So basically that’s trump
It’s true.
@@mickfunny4185 And the people who hate him. Basically, most of us are this way. Trump has done good things and bad things and stupid things. His acolytes ignore the bad and his haters ignore the good. It's sad really. Especially at a time like this.
bjiggs01 you can’t both-sides whataboutism to defend Trump, doesn’t work that way. Just now, late on a Friday night in the middle of a pandemic, he fired HIS appointee for Inspector General of the Intelligence Community. There’s nothing good about that, it’s pure corruption and weakens the nation. The only people with a bias are those who don’t recognize what Trump just did.
Thank You Paul for the Great Music Over the Years. Unforgettable Hits Indeed
Thank you Paul, this production is so personal that it’s like you’re in the same room with us.
For me this man is a living legend - and he still plays a fine guitar
JohnnyB : True words indeed. But the same can and should be said about Artie.
Thank you again, sir.... This never gets old.
All he needs is a guitar and a webcam and it sounds just as beautiful as the original. Blows my mind that this song is 50 years old.
Emily Casto Not even close to the original...He cheats on most of the high notes, talks alot of lines, and his voice is much lower pitched now..
@@weebunny wow you shut them down. Props. Most people would bicker about it but you knew exactly what to say
This was written back in the days before synthesisers and electronic wizardry, just shows that a man and his guitar can make beautiful music.
79 years young, still shines, what an effortless presentation , at this age, what a humble and talented person you are, God bless!!, enjoying your music lifetime, from TIGRAY(east africa).
Thank you Mr. Simon for adding some brightness to a scary and unstable world.
My best wishes to all the people in New York .We know how much you are suffering right now and thank you for this Paul Jan -England
Thank you Paul, I am from Morocco. Great respect to you for all what you have given us all these years.
Susan Vaughan susan whatever happened to your date from the S&G concert all those years ago😷
@@mickfunny4185 I enjoyed catching up with him at our 30th high school reunion. But have since lost track of him.

When I first listened to your songs , I did not even understand english....it was over 45 years ago. Thank you for everything. I hope this great song will reach the heart of New York. Greetings from France
a master at his craft. Simply classic music, doesn't get any better.
I’ve been a one man circus performer busking for twenty years plus, often I cry out in my anger and my shame, but the fighter still remains. Love this man, your poetry has made some sense in the madness this world has thrown at me. God bless you.
Thank you Paul!!!
Thank you for all the great world best songs, that will survive all times. Stay healty.
What Paul gives us, has given us, in a musical sense, is inconceivable.
I've followed him since I was 10, and at 64, still lean onto him.
Bravo, Sir.
its only a musical god who can perform in the back yard 50 odd years down the line and still get the same love and respect from more than 50 years of fan base...genius musician with a beautiful soul who will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the years!
His farewell concerts ended with the stage blacking out and only him and his guitar, just like this. To me, that's where it begins and ends -- if you can't lift someone up at that level, the foundation of the music will never be as solid.
Absolutely beautiful. It still melts me. Thank you for your kind heart handsome
You rock, man. Your fans in Florida miss you... I hope to see you again in Orlando soon!
As a 52 year old man I’ve listened to S/G thousands of time. Each time they pull out a new meaning to THERE musical Genius

Yup. I’ve found myself having to do that in a bar a few times recently so I’m used to it.
Paul, im listening your songs since 1972 ❤️❤️❤️..fifty years 😭
There is something so profoundly elemental about seeing an icon of Paul Simon's stature perform a time-honored classic like The Boxer in such a spartan setting. I can't recall being so riveted to a performance of any kind in a long, long time.
Well said.
Love this! Stay safe!

an absolute Master songwriter, he will be listened to and loved literally Forever, such rich force behind his calm. I cant put into words how he lit up my quite dreadful life when I was a young man, shit little record player in a shitter flat though it felt ok when Paul Simon was throwing beautiful imagery around the room wrapped in a perfect melody. God bless him.
Thank you Paul Simon for so much throughout these years! You've written so much of the soundtrack of our lives...!
He sounds and plays like he did 40 years ago. What a blessed talent.
Yep, only thing missing from the song was extra voice with Art Garfunkel.
He definitely does not play or sound like he did 40 years ago

Love you Paul. Thank you soo much for all the music you brought with you and gave it to us. God bless you. Peace.
His voice is unbelieveable clear and sound
Gorgeous Mr. Simon. You're a once in a century kind of musician.
Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. was the first album I bought back in 64, this guy has kept going for a mighty long time.
Paul, without knowing it ; you and I have been close companions for years. You have been there for me on many occasions , high and low. My mother brought us together when you released There Goes Rhymin' Simon. You taught me the 50 ways, you introduced me to Lincoln Duncan and The only living Boy in NY, and you whispered an American Tune to me. My mother has passed away, but the her love of your music has been carried onward in my heart. Graceland is and always shall be one of the best albums of the century. I know you may never read this, but in the offhand chance... Thank you for traveling with me throughout my lifes journey, and thank you for being you. oh... and all my love to Edie...
As Steve Martin said in a speech for Paul Simon: "I do not often use the word genius. Just thought I'd mention that."
I bet this makes Paul laugh...lol...
Great reference. Steve Martin's speech is worth re-watching.

That's awesome. It's so true. When it comes to songwriting he is a literal "genius"

Portland Oregon has love for Paul Simon!
Paul, you are as essential to our culture as any name in the American Songbook or American letters-thank you for this and everything you’ve done!
There's simply no replacement for real music. It soothes the soul.
Isn't it a curious thing that someone you do not know can be such a part of your life. These songs, the simply incredible way he made the guitar resonate reaching deep into emotions. I have this memory of a cold gray winter day, I am sitting in a bus terminal, I can't remember where, it was somewhere between northeast Pennsylvania and Oklahoma crazy I know. Soon I would be in Vietnam and this song came on the radio "homeward bound". I pictured home it made me lonesome and sad, I was not sure i would ever get home. The comments here are great and they say it all, Paul Simon was a master at putting feelings into words and music,. Thank you sir you are national treasure.
Everyone in Europe appreciates this man too. Italy and Spain in particular having a hard time , the Italians have been finding comfort in music , best wishes and positive thoughts to all from Ireland . Paul Simon living legend.
