When a spigot leaks through the wall or leaks b itself there might be a chance that you need to replace that outdoor spigot.
Garden faucets are installed in every house and the replacement is pretty similar no matter what type of faucet you have.
An Outdoor Faucet broke inside the wall⁉
Watch this video 📽 on how to fix it - ruclips.net/video/yeRJXtuxlmI/видео.html
Nice vid. Can I ask what is the piece near the end of the faucet which has tiny holes. 2:50.
At 2:36 of the vid water initially comes out from those tiny holes then it appears to stop and just comes out of the main large hole.
For my situation, water just continually comes out of those tiny holes and of course it leaks.
What’s the purpose of this type of design. I’m trying to learn and understand better. Thanks.
@@f430ferrari5 That's a vacuum breaker
@@DIY-repair thanks. Believe it or not, shortly after my comment the YT algorithms had a YT vid come up in my feed which showed and explained what it is. 😁
Appreciate the response. I guess it’s supposed to prevent back flush into the water system.
Would you happen to know the size you are using in your vid. It appears to be the same size as the one I have.
I was able to change out my faucet after watching this video. One thing, when I realized I wasn’t making progress twisting it off from the outside of the house, I went into the crawl space and realized I needed to take a channel lock and pliers to unscrew it at the connector so I wouldn’t twist the copper pipe. So I’d say to be aware of that. Saved a lot of money I am sure. Then I had to also work on my air conditioner and fixed that too the same night! LoL.
Older homes you need to be prepared to use a pipe wrench due to all the lime and calcium deposit around the thread. Most likely the job won't go as smooth as this video shows.
I could not unscrew mine. I thought I'm going to get hernia. Will need to buy map, cut, and re-solder the whole thing
Yeah not always goes as planned😮@@seventwenty4569
Without removing bricks, how can you tell if it is buildup vs soldered on?
Thank you! Older home owner here. I was wondering if I'd run into trouble. I'll get a plumber instead😊
This video saved me a bunch of money and I got the satisfaction of DIY! Thanks.
I’m glad I could help!
I’ve been putting it off for a while now for fear of messing it up! It looks so easy though…
Thanks for the instructions. Two spigots have been installed successfully, without any other issues. From Texas.
Glad it helped
Thanks for this video + The helpful hints in the comments, too!
This is a very good video, however, you should add how to determine the size of spigot, ie; 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch.
Harris just tried to charge me over $900 to do this. I told them thank you very much and have a nice day. Freaking insane
That's outrageous. I charge my clients $280 on average.
@DIY-repair my neighbor paid around $300 for his but that was a couple of years ago before everyone started price gouging
Harris … where are you located?

Looks very simple but be aware this procedure works fine as long as the female receiver in the crawlspace is very securely anchored to prevent the pipe in crawlspace to twist or kink and break. Careful with this procedure.
It’s been done in Texas-almost no basements or crawl spaces. But there is still a chance that a female fitting might be loose.
@@DIY-repairI need to do this asap..how do I know it's not came lose?
Thank you
If you don’t have an access from a basement or crawlspace just carefully start to unscrew it. Unfortunately, that’s the only way
@@krsone1585 More than likely of it comes loose you'll know it, other ways is after the repair, make sure all water faucets are off then check your water meter if the usage dial is not turning more than likely you're ok. Good luck!
@@DIY-repair Thank you.
Thank you for your video, it helped me do it myself. Much appreciated!
Glad it helped
I’m looking this up because my apartment complex has a hose to wash cars and I can’t comprehend how they leave a broken hose faucet for months without replacing seeing how easy this is
They do that))
@@DIY-repair i know they do. I just wanted to watch how difficult it was since it’s been broken for months
They may need to turn off the water for a whole building to replace it. That's probably why they avoid it.
thank you so much your video was very helpful
Thank You! We did it. Whoo Whoo.
Thank you!
Thank you, dad. I'll try it
You're the only video ive watched where the service line isnt secured with a wrench, is it necessary to secure the service line before unscrewing the spigot or is it just an extra step for liability that companies take? I ask because i dont want to cut into my drywal to get to the other side of my spigot.
I need a video on youtube that has a pipe also connecting from below the floor onto the spigot with no thread. And it doesn't line up with different parts bought from the store. Should I just replace it with a whole new kit? The house was built in the 70s.
THANK YOU !!!
Awesome
This works great with a new spigot that was recently installed for the purpose of making a video. Actual spigots will have frozen threads.
Not true. I’ve replaced 10-15-year-old faucets the same way. It does not always work if there’s a weak connection inside. 8 of 10 faucets would go out like that.
I recommend never sticking your finger in the hole. I did that once when running a cable and my finger got stuck. Luckily I had my phone and was able to call for help.
How would you know if the spigot is not welded inside? I would think in trying to twist it off, it could just bust off?
It can, but then you do it as I showed in this video - ruclips.net/video/yeRJXtuxlmI/видео.html
What's the standard or typical height for a hose bib?
The only problem for
Me is I’m not sure if I’m going to break the copper pipe inside which I have no access unless I cut the wall or something … any suggestions for that?
Just be ready to fix it. I have a video on how to fix the connection inside the wall
It would be convenient for the manufacturer to stamp wether its screw in or soldered. I just went to use my water hose and the valve stem broke off 6" inside the wall. What a pita
It depends on the installer. The manufacturer provides two options for the faucet to be soldered or screwed in.
What is that module on the end of the faucet, I have one like it and when I hook up the hose the water comes sprays everywhere but not out of the hose?!!
Vacuum breaker
My house was built in 2001, brick veneer. Is it likely that the faucets use threaded fittings? I've never replaced a faucet, but I just assumed that the piping would have been soldered.
Most likely threaded but only one way to find out... get out that drywall knife
Warning! You have to know whether the copper pipe is corroded or otherwise weakened so that turning the spigot would break away from the copper pipe. Also, how do you know whether it is threaded or soldered ahead of time?
Thanks a lot for this video. BTW is there a specific direction (clockwise or counter clockwise) to apply the tape?
You need to apply it clockwise if looking at the thread
I think he put the tape on backwards
Ive always heard that you need to apply the teflon tape in the same direction as you will be screwing the piece in
Clockwise when looking at the threads is the correct direction to wind on the teflon tape - otherwise the tape will peel off when inserting. Also agree with putting pipe dope on top of the teflon tape as double insurance.
Remember. 1st try replacing the washer. Usually that's all you have to do to stop a drip.
Not if it leaks through a wall.
I was scared you were gonna twist off the hose bib copper in the wall . Cranking on it with a wrench 😬
If it would twist, here is how I'd fix it - ruclips.net/video/yeRJXtuxlmI/видео.html
How can I tell if the pipe is threaded or soldered on?
How old is the house?
@@DIY-repair Hi I had same question. In my case it is 1960, but the spigot that needs replaced is at the carport, which is an addition that was put on at a later point, so not sure if the hose spigot is newer (like 1980’s maybe?) or original to that side of the house.
@@mandyjb77 hard to tell. If it was attached later it might be screwed in but no guarantee. In some cases when I want to make sure I just drill off more mortar so I will be able to see what's inside.
@@DIY-repair built in 1994.
@JJ it's 50/50 chance that you will have a soldered faucet. I'm working on a video on how to replace a faucet when it's broken/soldered in the wall
I don't have access to turn the water off, how would I go about replacing it? Landlord literally won't come and fix it
Unfortunately, there is no way to fix that without water being shut.
@@DIY-repair tenants should ALWAYS know where the water shut off is in case of an emergency
I decided to see if the spigot on my house worked and now it drips
