    I would definitely RMA the motherboard because who knows what else they fixed besides the sleep function.
    If you can replace the single vertical fan with a reverse one and put regular fans on the rad then you could move the rad to the top position as exhaust fans and have the bottom fan as an intake giving the case a more positive pressure setup and have two fans at the top to help exhaust hot air. Just a thought.

    • @Eric_Fate
      @Eric_Fate 7 месяцев назад +11

      I would do the same. They always fix more stuff than just the thing that had you considering it in the first place. It may save you some headaches over the next year or two.

    • @s1gne
      @s1gne 7 месяцев назад +3

      Problem with RMA is that you have to send the mobo first and then you have to wait for them to send one back.
      That means you have a non-functioning system for possibly weeks.
      Personally i don't use the sleep or suspend functions, my system is either on or off.. rebooting is quick enough (although my new DDR5 sytem takes quite a long time compared to my old DDR4 system. but i just downloaded a bios update (not installed yet) that should fix that.)

    • @blackjack6259

      @@blackjack6259 with my "old" 2070super Gigabyte had a V1.0 (like mine) but also a V1.1 (used same bios) and a V1.2 with a different bios, that one also had a bit lower clockspeeds.
      Probably because of stability, although i never had problems with that card.
      A never version can also mean that there is not much difference, just an other manufacturer of POScaps for instance

    I know it sucks, but I'd suggest doing the RMA on the mobo. Who knows what else they fixed.

    Definitely get an RMA done. When the company is offering an exchange, I think you should do it. Ridiculous of them to make this change on a board level rather than a bios update. Yay for air cooling, been running 2 xeons 2630 v4 on air cool for rendering and stuff for almost 8 years and it still sits around 45 ish. Cool build ❤❤❤

      You don't know if it's actually a hardware mistake or not. Also it seems like AMD's communication to their board partners is miserable. We've seen it first hand with the too high SoC voltage they communicated initially. Or did not communicate it to be lowered compared to non X3D parts...

    • @SkylineGamingStudios
      @SkylineGamingStudios 7 месяцев назад +4

      @@kyoudaiken The SOC problem was a board partner issue, AMD clearly had the voltage max set on the spec of the CPU,s Asus generally is lazy when it comes to bios voltage

      @@SkylineGamingStudios AGESA is provided as a module from AMD and is signed and cannot be modified by board partners. The BIOS code however can override the value. But I doubt it was the case. The topic is far more complex and it has been shown that it was a communication issue.

      Agreed, and since heat rises, the intake fan, even though there is foam on the inside of the case, is currently sucking in the warm rising air from the GPU radiator. Swapping positions should fix most of that and look better.

    It seems like the foam divider for the fan works alright. But you could keep the bottom as intake, change the rear fan to intake also, and then make the 3 fans on the side exhaust. Be easy to keep slightly positive pressure and looks like the direction of airflow would be pretty clean too.

    Awesomesauce video Paul and Joe! ❤
    Nice to see PM2 running fully.
    As for the issue of RMA to get a sleep mode; that is a damn bit amount of work to be done. As was stated before by fellow commenters, if Gigabyte would send a replacement board first, then maybe.. 🤔 Either way, its a lot of work. I would see the temperatures, during CES rendering, are like. If Joe's hotel room turns into a dry sauna, then just buy Joe a beast of an AC window unit for his office. Less work, and the current WORKING version of PM2 lives on.
    So still some jankiness which is what we live with.
    Caffeinator out!

    10:40 If the RMA is very low cost or free I'd do it for the sake of getting a better and potentially more reliable board. I don't personally use sleep functions so wouldn't care much about the feature, but there could be other issues on v1.0.

    Paul, I would RMA the board just so you have better support in the future and, as a bonus, you will also be able to put the system to sleep. It certainly is not a good look to have that may revisions on such a new product so for future support and stability, I would go ahead and get the newest version board they will send you (1.1 or 1.2 respectively). This assumes the newer revisions of the board prove to actually be better than the v1.0 version in the future, which is a bit of a gamble, no matter which route you choose to take. Cheers!

    Thanks for sharing, very interesting. The re-positioning of the GPU and the other cards really is better now, and looks way more organized too - it also makes for better cooling and actually lets you close up the case as much as possible. A follow-up would be nice, with some more efficiency testing of different cooler setups/orientations in terms of airflow and cooling (benchmarks? :)). And if it was about me, i'd totally exchange for the newer revision of the board. Not just for that sleep mode, but maybe there are some other issues that got fixed/improved/updated that weren't disclosed. Looking forward to the CES btw! A lot of stuff going on this year, this will become a super interesting and exciting one for sure.

    Generally sleep option is or can be a personal preference, in a large work environment sleep feature may not be welcome as the computers may set to reboot and update as needed on demand via a network command like where I work at as an example. That being said unless you're remote managing this pc, I would RMA it given what's been communicated even with the pain of the process or reach out to any rep you might have contact with to see if they can help.

    For that case, the side fans should be input. it sounds like it doesn't make sense to only have 1 exhaust but, every test I've seen on it, shows it improves temps. Can you lower the motherboard tray and get 2 in the back? Lian Li themselves recommend to configure all the side fans as intake. - Sleep is stupid. Just leave it on idle. Turn the display off if you need to.- RAM taking a long time early might be clock rate instability with 4 sticks. Clock it down to stock (no expo) and try again. If no post then, problems. If it posts, work on timings more than bus speed for AMD.

    For me the sleep function is no big deal on a PC, I always turn it off, because a lot of software doesn't play nice with it when the PC wakes back up. I do usually leave the sleep/hibernate function enabled on laptop computers. Since this is your production system, I would RMA it for a newer revision of the MB. Seems like they pushed the first version out before it was ready, and if a firmware update can't fix problems, I would go with a revised MB.

    I'd want to hear what gigabyte has to day directly before RMA - like others have said, revisions that fast can sometimes mean urgent issues were addressed.
    That said, sleep (S3) isn't a huge power savings these days and, with win11 on AM5, has actually shown issues with memory speed reduction over time.
    Since windows benefits from occasional full restarts anyway, I usually configure my PC to hibernate (S4), which allows the memory controller to entirely shut down, and I fully reboot once a week. (Hibernate has to be added to the start menu via control panel in win11)

    @Paul's Hardware : Hi Paul & Joe,
    First of all : I would RMA the board, it costs more than enough to expect everything to be fully functional, including the sleep capabilities.
    And 2nd : move the GPU AIO 240 radiator up and let both fans on the radiator exhaust, and put the intake fan at the bottom so that it feeds in cooler air (hot air rises).
    If you can : try placing louvres that force the radiator air exhaust upwards instead of straight out (horizontally), that may help to feed cooler air to the lower intake fan.

    That RMA would be a RPITA, but I'm wondering what else was fixed too. Is there any documentation out there that states all the changes? Conservatively, could also wait a few months if there's a gracious RMA window to see if the community notes any issues with 1.0. Does no sleep also mean no hibernation?

    Just flip those radiator fans the other way, that 4090 is putting +500w into the case and its never a good idea to have fans next to each other blowing the other ways. That single exhaust on the back is fine and those at bottom and you can control the fan rpms to have positive pressure inside the case.
    Also that top fan on Noctua isnt all the way installed, you can see it in the end of the video that it pops couple of millimeters off the cooler.

    2 revisions already? I would guess sleep isn't the only issue. Definitely RMA it for the updated one.

    Honestly, I don't like sleep mode. Even after decades of Windows use its' still clunky.
    That said, RMA the board if you're 2 revisions behind and it's free. You'll (hopefully) get longer BIOS support and avoid any quirks that 1.0 boards invariably have.
    SUPER happy you were able to undo that janky slot setup. It was weird because I thought all the slots supported bifurcation.
    As for the fan setup, I'm guessing you can just have all the fans on the side blow the same direction, the temps should be fine.

    You’re getting better temps on the air cooler because of the water cooled gpu

    I disable sleep on my desktop PCs, so I wouldn't mind if the feature was unavailable. The feature isn't much use to me since I only use my desktop PC once per day. Just power on and shut down when done. 🤷‍♂

    Alleluia! My air flow angst thus relieved.
    Sleep? Why not just shut it down for extended inactivity? I have a x570 Gigabyte MB with Windows 11 Pro installed. I can manually pick Sleep from the menu, but the OS setting to sleep at 30 min of no input is unpredictable. Sometimes it goes to sleep at 30 min, sometimes it doesn’t…for durations longer than 10 hours. Odd.

    Paul, When I updated to the newest version of windows I lost the sleep button but after a week or so it came back. Every so often it happens again but after A shutdown it usually comes back.

    I would also RMA the Board asap! If you do end up having to RMA the board in the future due to more unknown factor's I guarantee you will get a used RMAed board the longer you wait and who knows what issues you will have then. Example I had RMA a $1000 asus board it was in like new condition but the cpu was code 00. Asus sent me a board with burn marks on the back from someone using a torch while using ln2 for overclocking and all the plastic was scratched and the oled display was broken. RMA the board before they start fixing these returned boards and who knows what else happened or the quality they are in.

    Don't have the sleep option on my AMD Ryzen 9 5900X build running windows 11 Pro either. And I had hell with my gigabyte TRX40 Designaire Motherboard when I did my Threadripper build in 2020 finally had to RMA the board in 2021 and after that it was a great pc until some one stole it last year.

    I use sleep allot, but to be honest... I would highly suspect all of those changes are for more than just sleep meaning you just might have some negative affects down the road with that version.. Being a builder and how quick you can swap those out, I would go for the new board.

    AMD offers chipset drivers directly. I wouldn't use the asus one because there may be some differences based on how their board handles certain functions.

    Paul ran the Anti-Jank hardware scan, cleaned the Jank infected area, it is now truly a $10,000.00 PC. Very nice, Joe you lucky bastard 😄
