This looks incredible and you share your love of the food and culture so well. I can't wait to be able to travel again (mid-pandemic right now). Thank you for sharing!!
Mark, watching you enjoying the tofu makes me mouth-water. Good job! You should also try soft warm Shan tofu thoke. It's slightly different from this one.
tofu salad is come from eastern part of country, Shan state...their traditional foods... yes there are a lot of Shan foods in Yangon..Shan noodle is one of their signature foods..... Shan state is located in east part of the country and a lot of mountains, beautiful country side.. ....
Dang, I miss those foods, you made me hungry. I was born in Myanmar and now I am in US. I hope I will visit there again. :) you should go visit my hometown in Myanmar. Its kayah state and Loikaw Xity. Its really peaceful there.
Mark Wiens I'm not sure if you could taste shrimp in the tofu thoke but sometimes they would grind dried baby shrimp and put that in there along with some fish sauce.
Actually Myanmar middle part (Mandalay, Sagaing,Magwe) are growing different kinds of bean (including chickpea).Tofu are two kinds in myanmar. Shan Tofu and Burma Tofu. different tastes and different making ways.
Thank you for sharing, it seems like all the information in English makes them the same! I will need to find a better source so I can try both...at least until I can travel to the real thing!
Love your videos, Mark. A highlight of my Wensdays and Sundays. I listened to the Wandering Trader podcast that you were on. Great stuff. Any plans on going back to Laos to do some videos?
Hi Guys, Is it possible the couple in the background recognized Mark and Ying, and decided to put on a slapstick comedy show for us? Ha ha ! Nice work guys. Jim.
Love your videos Mark my stomach is growling and I've already eaten! P.s is Thai food nice because i have never really tried anything apart from prawn Tom Yum crisps :) !!
Hi there, any hygiene issues with the street food in Yangon? I’d go for hot cooked food, but also love to try their salad! You make the green papaya and tofu salad seem so delicious!
No really in the food no, its street life so its not going to be luxurious and squeeky clean but the foods aren't contaminated or anything, its fully safe to eat but if you're not into the crowded wild streets life then I guess its not for you. This is coming from a burmese person so you can be sure I'm not talking crap.
Great video as always, Mark! Quick question, Do you think I would be able to use chopsticks in the asian places you go to? I'm left handed so I was just wondering if I should be practicing with my right hand or not.
hi mark, you must have the highest metabolism rate lol, you stop for mid morning snack that consist of 3 bowls! you allways have a table full. my brother is the same way. the papaya salad really looked good. great vid thx :)
I'm travelling to Myanmar next year, is it safe to eat from foodstalls on the street? I heard many travellers have problems with poisoning. This looks really delish
hahaha, the way you eat the chili and raw garlic by biting in them, it's more than a real Asian can handle sometimes! my compliments....good guy, you found a way to enjoy and work too>
Burmese tofu is so easy to make!!! Chickpea or garbanzo flour cooked like polenta, pressed into a mold at room temperature. Than unmold and take to the fridge.
That tofu thoke reminds me of this Chinese dish, instead it's mixed with green tofu(I don't even know if it is tofu), chili sauce and cucumber with cilantro.
I love that I am watching a video recorded in Myanmar. It's so refreshing to see things have started to change there.
thumbs up for mark wiens for featuring the street food of my hometown.. thanks mark wiens

Has the sewer oil/gutter oil made it to Thailand? The food looks delicious.
The nutty dressing you are referring to could be sesame oil :D
Hi Mark.. Welcome back to Myanmar. .. Why don't you come and visit our Shan State ? Our Authentic Shan foods are awaiting for you to give a try :)
Nice vegan meal!!!!! Thx
THANKS MARK!
This meal seems to register lower on the O-face meter. I would still try it because the price is right.
Will you be making it mark? Thanks

Hi Mark, how were you able to communicate with the locals? Did the vendors know any English or Thai?
Kevin P the people do not know thai but most can manage broken English
I love vegan food
Me too
I'm travelling to Myanmar next year, is it safe to eat from foodstalls on the street? I heard many travellers have problems with poisoning. This looks really delish
Yes Myanmar is clean and have reasonable food hygiene
MissPookie2 I recommend to check how they prepare for food before you eat it. To prevent diarrhoea , better to eat at Burmese restaurants.
i've got distracted by a funny couple behind you hahaha
Background is funny.. 😂 that couple is fighting for food feeding
Do u feed ur cameraman?
hahaha, the way you eat the chili and raw garlic by biting in them, it's more than a real Asian can handle sometimes! my compliments....good guy, you found a way to enjoy and work too>

Is it Burma or Myanmar? They call it Burma over here for some reason.
used to be Burma, but sometimes in 1900s, they changed into Myanmar
Burma is British given name and Myanmar is the original name.
Alright cheers.
David Nash Burma is the old name.
U should post your workout vid :)

My son has lived in China for over 8 yrs. and loves the street food but says you need to be careful. Do you agree, or is that rare ??
