FIX - Avast Service High CPU Usages On Windows

Avast antivirus is a popular antivirus but sometimes it starts working unusual.
The avast service is a core service which is required to run Avast antivirus so that it can scan your computer.
Sometimes Avast service takes high CPU and cause system slowdown.
Here are steps to Fix High CPU usages by Avast Antivirus -
1. Try to update the avast antivirus and check if it working or not.
2. Go to settings and disable Mail shields and Software Updater.
3. If above 2 doesn’t work then Go to program and features and double click to uninstall avast then click on modify.
4. From the drop-down menu select the minimal protection and click on change.
5. Restart your computer.
This fix works on Windows 7, 8/8.1 and Windows 10.
Note: It is advised to create a system restore point before following any Windows tutorial.

Thank you. My Avast was using up to 35% of my 12 core CPU. It was also using more than 3 GB of RAM. Insane. After your fix it is now using less than 100MB RAM and virtually no CPU. Let's see how long that lasts before it gets bloated again.

@@afiltable ... 400-500MB memory and next to nothing CPU. Still seems to be going well. I suspect after each reboot of Windows the memory usage drops again. I usually only reboot once a month or so.

My computer had been randomly crashing for moths. I had no idea why until I looked in task manager and found I was stuck at 75%+ Memory and 100% disk usage! Thanks so much for this. I actually bought the cleanup premium, fool that I am, trying to solve the very issue Avast was causing. I feel so stupid and gullible!

So the only way to remove the Avastsvc from your task so you can aleviate 20MBs and lower you memory usage from 59% to 39% is to fully uninstall avast with Avast uninstaller utility. I just want to temp turn the Service off to gain some memory usage for 1 program temporarily since I dont have internet signal sometime and when running like GIMP I need as much memory and video memory on this 2GB Ram Notebook.

what about high memory usage? ever since the latest update I noticed mine uses more then 1gb of memory constantly and its kinda annoying

I ended up uninstalling Avast Cleanup and ever since then my cpu usage is back to normal (~1%) and around 20 mb memory. That was my case at least.
