Great video...just scored a 2000 125 YZ for $500....so will follow this series closely.... Thank you ...I realize how much work it takes to make these video.. Great job you earned my subscription!!!!!
If you want your yz 250 to look new, a recommendation is to powder coat the frame silver and to powder coat the rims in a dark blue. Also you can get a restyled plastics kit to look like the new yz 250s
What do you mean? To put an aluminum subframe on a steel frame you have to modify the steel frame? I had one of the lower bolts come out of my subframe and had a crash so it caused my steel subframe to get twisted. I bought an aluminum subframe for it off ebay and it fit the steel frame perfectly.
joeshmoe12301230 I had a friend put an aluminum subframe on a 1999 yz250 and the left subframe mount on the main frame was too low. so he had to cut it and weld it higher up. plus where the subframe mounts up top by the gas tank the subframe was to narrow and had to be grinded
Great video!! In the future you didn’t have to throw the exhaust, plastics, etc away. You could have used them as back up if your bike took some damage. It doesn’t cost money for those parts to sit in plastic bin out in the barn.
My buddy just gave me his old 08 YZ450F, engine is toast, whole bike needs overhauled. I'll be doing about the same thing as you are here, just with a 4 stroke.
Yamaha put the power valve on the front of the motor for 1998 not on the left side like yours. You probably have a '97 or '96. I bought a 2002 YZ250 for $500 and I'm almost done restoring it. The forks and front brake were disassembled and in a box but went back together no problems. Just a good carb clean and fresh premix and it started on the 2nd kick!
Holy shit... you have HIGH STANDARDS. I would add gas and ride it... in China they would just have three people push it and four ride it... I have never owned a two stroke dirt bike in that good of condition. good vid.
400$? I’ve been looking for years on kijiji. Nothing like this sells for 400 where I am (Ottawa Canada). Must be out in the boonies with low population.
Haha it's just said the same shit I swear all these RUclips videos are just fake as hell or they be lying I search for like two hours every day for a project and never come across shit like that 400 for a wiser 450 doesn't matter if it's dirty and the plastics are fucked lol
I budget painted my frame with rust paint 😂 matte black it looks pretty good so matte black with glossy black rims look good.( I have a kx250f monster edition so the rims were black and hubs were green stock)
paint the swing arm main frame and subframe matte black and get blue plastics with the yamaha sign and decals in a neon yellow and get ur wheels powder coated matte black and neon yellow
@@coreybennit9197 Hey corey at least he is doing it ! Why put people down for having ago, does it make you feel good ? He looks to me to be doing an good job with what hes got.
And that the factory pipe makes a great back up at the track?.... Kid....cant wait to throw this junk away! Not sure what triple clamps are called but ill junk this sh!t too!
California Modz no he should grow a handlebar mustache that way he'll have to spend less money buying parts for a job that will never be completed correctly
Good series. But you made a mistake by taking that whole assembly off in one shot. Should have disassembled starting with the front wheel, then both forks, then triple clamps. You would be taking all of that apart anyways. Other than that I will definitely follow this series! Keep it up 👍🏻
You know theres a coolant drain screw on the water pump on all these mx bikes. Its normally the 1 screw that looks a bit different then the other 4. Take out the screw and drain into a jug. I wouldn't of taking everything apart on the rear brake assembly. If you took it off in 1 piece there's no risk of getting dirt in the system while cleaning parts. Top thing on the forks is the triple clamp.
And the part you said you didnt know what it's called is a TRIPLE CLAMP. I'm rebuilding a 93' YZ 250 and there no way in hell I'm gonna go with the factory look on it lol white and purple, definitely early 90's color choices on their part
Buenas, tengo una yz125 1991,pero no tengo repuestos para la valbula de poder, el cilindro puede ser remplazado por el de alguna version mas nueva? saludos!
Cool video...when you are panning across the bike the video gets all blurry and you can't see any detail. I've had this problem with some of my vids too. Do you know what causes that? I think that it happens during the upload process but I could be wrong.
You need to buy the right tools man!! There's a drain bolt for all the fluids in that bike, always drain everything first!! You should have taken the sub frame out and the air box would have came right out, anyways that's how you'll get the new one in.
These videos! Great work my friend. I've done this to a 99 yz250 and a 05 trx450r. Got a vid on my so called channel. Any how keep it simple like this, it's great!!
Damn dude, the stock yz header pipes are amazing and make awesome power throughout the entire rpm range. It’s not hard to fix dented pipes. Don’t throw the stock exhaust away bro.

Are you going to make a video
Don't know why but I expected him to say: "Hey guys ChrisFix here..."
Lmao
That's what I was going to say 😂🤣

Only the 02+ yz's will fit the modern plastic... Steel subframe YZ will not accept the plastics without heavy modification.
imsroll he could find an aluminum subframe for it.
joeshmoe12301230 you have to modify the subframe mounts on the frame so, no still heavy mods needed.

Thanks for being so in-depth! One of the best videos I've seen on tearing down a bike.
Will Stalder you're a freaking idiot
Nice video, really enjoy the comments you make along the process, well edited. 👍
Nice video :D and I have to agree a bolt coming out is one of the most satisfying sounds to hear!!
No a bolt snaping loose is the best sound ever
Agreed but when you fire up that 7.3 L diesel truck
I really enjoyed this.
Can't wait for the next part!
I like your honesty on your mishaps and techniques, good work bro
Im really impressed this thing had all the bolts on it haha most of these older bikes are missing bolts every where!
man i love this type of videos when you get to see a totally trashed bike become a brand new one...
Great video!! In the future you didn’t have to throw the exhaust, plastics, etc away. You could have used them as back up if your bike took some damage. It doesn’t cost money for those parts to sit in plastic bin out in the barn.

The best sound is a 2 smoke on the pipe. Great vid dude.
this is sick. Good reference guide for future rebuilds
My dad still has his 1998 yz250. Thing is still in the garage right now! Got a carbie rebuild but thats about it.
Great video! Can’t wait for the rest of the series!
This guy like the chrisfix of dirt bikes 😂
supra sonic haha I had to check who this was as well
can't wait for next episode, really godd video and you making me wanna start restore a bike(:
Thanks, is a very instructive video, and your comments are the corrects and clare, its very good for my...

i love the white paint on the air filter
excited to see the rest of the series!
Very good and funny videos bring a great sense of entertainment!
just like me forgot the front tyre, good works sir.....keep motivated
Very nice, I had the 98 YZ250 myself, but I was dumb enough to sell mine after rebuilding it. I regret it everyday..
Dude you are awesome, love the video
The owner of a 2t motorcycle saying a bolt coming out is the sweetest thing you'll ever hear... Lol.
Holy shit... you have HIGH STANDARDS. I would add gas and ride it... in China they would just have three people push it and four ride it... I have never owned a two stroke dirt bike in that good of condition. good vid.
The 10’th time I have wached this video no cap
Good on you, using the tools you have!
400$? I’ve been looking for years on kijiji. Nothing like this sells for 400 where I am (Ottawa Canada). Must be out in the boonies with low population.
same here!! looks like RUclipsrs use some "special" website to find dirtbikes for under $500
Most youtubers is trying to get a lower price then what it actually is for an example the bike was maybe 800$ but he talked his way down to 400$
@@konylarsen7137 it is all about the click bait

Dang that bike was a steal tho and great job on the bike
Think its a 96 model due to tank being darker blue
Jake Gibson I agree with the white frame which was the last year they did that
Ye not a 98. A 96 but either way the bike is the same even today just not steel on the frame
Yes!!!! You are the king!!! GJ
I budget painted my frame with rust paint 😂 matte black it looks pretty good so matte black with glossy black rims look good.( I have a kx250f monster edition so the rims were black and hubs were green stock)
I have a 98 she runs great but I think when it needs a new top end I’m gonna go ahead and go through everything
My dream is to have mechanics knowledge like you to be able to restore motorcycles :O
Bright Red frame.. white plastics 2018 .. fmf exhausts pro grips in red ... black foam for handlebars and better suspension.
The part you didnt know, is called a triple tree. Nice mustache!
I refer to it as a triple clamp. Just personal preference tho
Those are some cool 😎 pliers
I recommend you do a gunmetal grey/back just to stick out from all the other semi gloss black frames those tend to get scratched up anyways
Your narrating is funny, great vid keep it up!
Love it man, youvygot yourself a new subscriber!
i had a yz 125 was a blast to drive, it was not registered but trying to buy a road legal yz250 or some other motocross bike to drive on the road :)
paint the swing arm main frame and subframe matte black and get blue plastics with the yamaha sign and decals in a neon yellow and get ur wheels powder coated matte black and neon yellow
Awesome build man, I'm gonna be doing a series on a 96
Still waiting on that vid
You do realize there’s a drain bolt on the right side radiator to drain the coolant instead of dumping it everywhere?
i had a rain pan under the bike its all good
Lol it's all good I don't mind everyone knowing I have no bloody clue what I'm doing 😂

Mustache march is almost here... trust me on this bro

Mike Lyons you get better with each build
California Modz: It's a military thing~😁
Good series. But you made a mistake by taking that whole assembly off in one shot. Should have disassembled starting with the front wheel, then both forks, then triple clamps. You would be taking all of that apart anyways. Other than that I will definitely follow this series! Keep it up 👍🏻
Thank you for this series mane this is dope
Thanks for the videos nice job! Just watched the kx250 videos.
For future reference you can wet sand them down with a 2000 grit use a heat gun to back the shiny new look
Great video. But one tip. Drain the coolant before taking off the hoses and 😂
I thought 96 was the only year with a white frame.. was the white frame around multiple years?
You didn’t think about draining the coolant before tearing it down?

Dark grey, should go nicely with the black parts and blue plastic
With a full strip down like this, how on earth do you keep track of what bolts go where?
Oliver Thompson - Yates I watch this video
Nice video man! Your voice sounds so much like Chris fix!
ChrisFix of bikes. Great video man, one more sub
Lost me at 1:10, too painful to watch someone work on a bike without proper tools. I was looking forward to this series.
you can get the cooling system completely empty by just removing the lower rad hose or the lowest bolt on the water pump.
You are the ChrisFix of motorcycles :P I subscribed because I want to learn all about replacing things in motorcycles!!1
I feel like I'm watching a motorcycle version of Chris Fix
Semi gloss on the wheels and looks great
Riley Donnellan only looks good if you don't ride it and it's sitting on the bike stand in the neighbors looking at it from across the street.
And the part you said you didnt know what it's called is a TRIPLE CLAMP. I'm rebuilding a 93' YZ 250 and there no way in hell I'm gonna go with the factory look on it lol white and purple, definitely early 90's color choices on their part
How do you keep the nuts organised and know where each part goes where,I’m asking because i want to buy a pocket bike to customise and tune, any tips?
I'd take those old plastics to put em on my little rt 100 to make it look a lil cooler lol
Subscribed! Keep these kind of videos coming out! I love them
Good content man 👍
Buenas, tengo una yz125 1991,pero no tengo repuestos para la valbula de poder, el cilindro puede ser remplazado por el de alguna version mas nueva? saludos!
Literally Chris fix with a mustache
I guess I'm weird but I like the old run down look
shows you ain't a bitch with your bike
Or it shows that he doesnt like to take care of his bikes
clapped out is a good word here!
Just use a blow torch for the faded plastics it makes them brand new
Cool video...when you are panning across the bike the video gets all blurry and you can't see any detail. I've had this problem with some of my vids too. Do you know what causes that? I think that it happens during the upload process but I could be wrong.
Nicest think on the bike was the shifter leaver
You need to buy the right tools man!! There's a drain bolt for all the fluids in that bike, always drain everything first!! You should have taken the sub frame out and the air box would have came right out, anyways that's how you'll get the new one in.
I won’t hate on you but I like the pliers
Why is the shift lever so beautiful
Where did you source parts for the engine rebuild? I just recently purchased one myself
These videos!
Great work my friend. I've done this to a 99 yz250 and a 05 trx450r. Got a vid on my so called channel. Any how keep it simple like this, it's great!!
YOOOO. FINALLY SOMEONE WHO WRITES THERE NAME (CHANEL NAME) SAME AS I WRITE MY NAME : )
I have a serious question please respond how do u get these bikes so cheap i cant find one under 1k and there still in horrible condition
Did you actually throw those plastics away???
The first thing you took off on the forks is a triple clamp
Dang bro how many nuts did you lose throughout this breakdown process? Almost every part you removed you can hear nuts falling on the ground
Damn dude, the stock yz header pipes are amazing and make awesome power throughout the entire rpm range. It’s not hard to fix dented pipes. Don’t throw the stock exhaust away bro.
From all the years that past I learned to never throw "anything" away.
What are you gonna do with the old plastics?
You could have used a torch to get the fades parts out and the scratches would melt out with it
Nice one ma friend. .paint fram matt black bro peace from Glasgow Scotland uk
I enjoy the backround noices so much, dunno why
You the type of kid in school that tried to fit the square block in the triangle hole
what would u say are the most important tools for a dirt bike tear down?
Silver frame, dark blue rims with new 250 plastics
Great video!! 😂 😂 😆 😝 you have so many good videos!
A nice black on the frame with new blue plastics would look sweet. also nice vid dude
Great video man😊
