COMMENTS:
This performance is (most of) what was used for the legendary Swans Are
Dead live album. This specific version I've put together is mostly from
a tape of the VPRO broadcast of the concert, while the actual live
album is probably mixed from the multi-tracks. Unlike the full Amsterdam
1995 recording, I wouldn't claim this is outright, "better," than the
official release in terms of purely sound quality. The mix isn't as
good and tape hiss is more present, but there are other appealing aspects
about this recording. The most important to me is that the music is complete. Multiple tracks on the live album edit down parts of songs, obviously so that it can fit on one disc. There is about 20 minutes of music in total you'd be missing out on with these edits. The live album also uses
a different performance of Blood On Yr Hands, and excludes The Man With
The Silver Tongue. The mix here is a fair bit more guitar heavy, a lot
of the guitar parts are much more clear and separated here. Both of these
elements provide an interesting alternative listening experience. The main
appeal of this though is the video. I remember once naively trying to sync
the actual live album to said video without knowing about how the songs
were edited down, obviously pulled a lot of hair out for nothing. This
time around it was obviously much easier. The video itself is likely
very high gen, it was even uploaded twice by the person I grabbed it from.
I also feel like this may have once been shared by SCHEIDUNGSRICHTER from RUclips, someone who's watermarks are all over some of these old Swans videos, it looks like it was blurred out in the bottom left corner. Sadly this is all we have, there's definitely better videos of this show in
existence but they will sit in the YGR/Jarboe archives for years to come,
the only peak we've had is from the Where Does A Body End? documentary. Sadly none of the clips we see are from I Am The Sun or Blood Promise, as those two were either not filmed or never shared by whoever did this video originally.
A good few minutes of I Crawled were missing from the broadcast recording, so I patched it with the official release. Part of me wanted to just take the actual live album and patch it w/ this recording but I was feeling lazy and wanted to make this version of the show more widely available, as usually all that you can find is the widely shared torrent of just the two tracks left off Swans Are Dead. If anyone would like to go for doing such a merge though, then feel free.

It's a totally different experience for sure. I might share the Amsterdam 1995 Soundboard next which is honestly just objectively better sounding than how it was put out on Swans Are Dead and is more complete.
