    I have the SuperSport 939. It's a great bike. The 950 has all the upgrades I wish to have. The main difference should be torque and ergonomics. Though I like the RS660, I'd always take the Ducati. To me, the Tuono 660 will be more interesting, since it will have a more comfortable seating position.

    The fit and finish on the Ducati is miles ahead of the Aprilia - I saw both up close, and the Aprilia is great value for money, no error, but it's just not in the same league as the Ducati. I could see younger riders in their twenties possibly favouring the more 'modern' styling of the Aprilia, and guys in their thirties and up going more for the Ducati, which looks rather oldschool.

    The Ducati Supersport (standard) is 3.000€ above the Aprilia RS 660 right now here in Germany. The price difference and the light weight of the RS 660 made me choose the RS 660. Both are very nice bikes, but after driving and owning the Tuono 660 and the new Monster 950, I prefer the engine characteristics of the Aprilia - yes it has less torque, but also less heat and less clattering 😉. In the end it's all about having fun on your bike of choice 😍

  • @ragerider6283

    Nice vid. These bikes are much closer to each other than they initially seem & are true competitors imo. It's a really tough choice for me. I think I could happily buy either but would probably be wondering if I should've bought the other. The Ducati is sexier & classier but the Aprilia is cooler & edgier. Right now I'd buy the Supersport S but the real test will be the Supersport S vs the RS660 Factory.....when it arrives. Can't wait!

    • @Kwackajack
      @Kwackajack  3 года назад

      It's true, really hard to pick between and I think there would be a lot of 'grass is greener' syndrome wondering about if you picked the right bike. Especially for the price that these two come in at, there's so many bikes available. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!

  • @ssmith954
    @ssmith954 4 года назад +5

    Thanks for the good and fair comparison! Both are sports bikes of similar power, with slightly more relaxed rising positions and designed more for the road. I'm glad these styles are out there as I don't like naked bikes much and the litre category is just silly power (for me) and uncomfortable (for me).
    I personally prefer the looks of the Ducati with the suspension option of the S, but the Aprillia is a great looking bike too. I suspect the Ducati would be a bit better for longer trips, while the Aprilia would be a bit more nippy in the twisties. Bottom line is that it's great to have the choice -- and really looking forward to being able to give both a test!

    Thank you for doing this piece. I think it is good to bring these 2 together, as I think a lot of reviewers/creators missed this. That said, I would personally take the 950 S over the new Aprilia. I think Aprilia gave this bike too much electrickery and not enough actual hardware. And let's face it, you know there will be a "Factory" version coming soon which will, for a substantial price bump, address those deficiencies. And I would still take the 950 S. Of course, I say this without having sat on or ridden either! Once that happens the story could change. We will see if our ridiculous, dictatorial "leaders" will let that happen. Stay tuned! Nice comparo. Not sure how you don't see the family resemblance with the Aprilia RS like you do with the Ducati SS. Clearly both designs are "related" to the bigger versions. The 660rs is not that original. Also it would have been nice if you had done the math re power to weight ratios since you gave both the engine power number and dry/wet weights. Also also, fuel tank capacity and travel range would have ben nice too since these are not track/race replica bikes but meant for "real world" duty. But I enjoyed the presentation, as you are spot on...these 2 Italian beauties do compete head to head. Thanks. :-)

      Ducati's design language peaked with the 1198/1098/848. The triangles make it look like a goofy cartoon bad-guy, and the pipes on the side just messes up the view of the SSSW (and you have to take off the exhaust tips to get the rear wheel off *facepalm*)... but most other angles look pretty good, but nowhere near the 1198/1098/848 series.

Comfort isn't really a huge deal for me at the moment. Dude, I liked the review. However they are both different bikes, aimed at different markets. Call me old fashioned, as in my opinion the Aprilia is aimed at the younger market, whilst the Ducati is more aimed at the older age market. Who want a more “relaxed” bike, with more torque, so gear shifting isn’t as big a deal. They are however both great bikes, just don’t think they are aimed at the same buyer, nor by what I’ve seen already is comparable for these two fine examples.

      to be fair, its called middle WEIGHT. i dont think its right to think one is better than the other, because it fits a name better. They both fit the same class, have relatively similar specs, and ergos and everything. Plus, id much rather have a bigger, understressed engine than something that struggles to make the power it does, just so it fits the "middleweight" name. not saying the rs660 is going to be unreliable, who knows at this point. but just having a larger engine is not a good way to discount the ducati

    The RS660 is a lovely piece of machinery but it's so over priced that it really can only be classed alongside bikes of the same price like the MT-09, KTM 890R and Street triple RS all of which are massively more powerful, plus this claim of 250 kph (156 mph) is nonsense, MCN tested it at 141 mph (225 kph) and the footage of it being tested at Snetterton showed R6s, GSX-R 600s and other supersport bikes going past it like it was standing still on the straights, realistically it's in a class of one as it's too expensive to be compared to the MT-07, Z650 or CBR650 and it's not a supersport bike.

    Still tricky to find neutral

    pannier brackets so UGLY, they must be removed when not carrying luggage, and panniers that are x-insecure (zippers)
    I have to travel 4 hrs to get on mtn roads so this bike appears very comfortable, but for the price, no cruise control, yet they offer a very expensive travel pkg??

    Man, I don't even see the comparison here. Horse power is close but these are so different on just about every level. To me the 660 is a toy with cheap switch gear and childish paint jobs. The Ducati is classy and elegant. The 660 engine has no torque, flat in the middle and too light. The 660 may be quicker in its steering but I want stability in a bike like this. The Ducati is in its own class....meaning, there is nothing else like it which is why we see comparisons like this. Part for part the Ducati is far superior in every way. I personally want torque on the road not a wind up toy.
