- PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT - Committing myself to photographing 52 sunrises in 2023 gave a great sense of fulfilment. As you probably gather, one of my passions is landscape photography, so it fulfils my drive to be creative but getting up early to watch the sun rise is like a positivity boost!
For sure the freezing temperatures, all kinds of weather and very early wake-up calls in the summer are challenging but then the sense of achievement feels even greater.
Many of the year’s trips were out with fellow photographers from our Norwich & District Photographic Society (NDPS) Landscape Group and there’s a real enthusiasm amongst us to capture both new and familiar locations.
We’re often asked - “why return to the same spot again and again?”
The light and conditions constantly change from one visit to the next, so there is always a new composition to explore.
A few highlights from the year:
Nine visits to Shingle Street on the Suffolk coast, a project to capture the ever-changing landscape
Photographing sun rise on the summer solstice morning in June
Several visits to Cromer pier, Norfolk and Southwold pier, Suffolk
First time photographing the infamous Broomway Walk out into the Thames Estuary, Essex
First time trips to Iceland and the Jurassic coast in Dorset
Here is a compilation video of my 52 sunrises project. Sit back and enjoy the scenery.
