Hope Olivia poses in Daisey Duke shorts when you get you're Charger done! Very cool car!
Please use some additional PPE when working on rusty or clean sheet metal… lots of very sharp edges, protrusions that can bite you… gloves and a long sleeve shirt to protect your hands and arms would be good start. Love your channel and projects 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Nice work guys! Looking good! We will get you the rest of what you need here soon. 👊
Can't wait! Thank you so much. You guys make great quality parts
I've used AMD panels many times, and I think you will be amazed at how little "fitting' you'll have to do. They are spot on!
Wire brush the spotwelded area. The spotwelds become visible after doing so. And cleaning this area is prerequisite before welding again. Good luck
That's what I do, and some weld-thru primer is a must before too.
It's called a "mule Skinner" wheel. Wire embedded urethane wheel that you chuck into you seam speed tool. Yeah!, these wheels kick-ass.
The way you both work together is as much of a drawcard to me as the cool cars you build together. The enthusiasm you have, Liv, is amazing and Danny, your approach to teaching Liv is great to see. You guys are awesome.
The charger looks great even with the one new quarter. Can't wait to see it progress. I'm replacing the trunk floor in my 72 t/a, and you're right there doing this! Imma keep watchin' from New Zealand!😎🤙
Love the work on the Charger- word of advice from an older guy car: wear hearing protection! It doesn’t take long for you to lose hearing when running a grinder or other shop equipment. But you do what you want- your choice
hope you’re keeping that chewed up rear quarter for wall art … will look great hanging up
cheers from Australia 🍻🤘
You could have helped > Chris birdsong < by giving him the left over sail panel for one of his charger's. He's currently making a 1969 charger Daytona and that whole area was gone someone cut it out with a torch. You could look at his video's as he has worked on many 1968 69 70 for pointer's. You have to wire wheel the spot welds so u can see them clearly. If u had a big piece of cardboard makes it easier to clean up pick it up bend it like a V and dump in garbage can, so u don't walk around with debris from car stuck to clothes
He would have run that for sure
The 68 Charger is looking badass.
Well Done.. Glad it's going to be more that just a Beater.. I had a 68 in High School.. HA ( yeah.. back in 79 LOL ) Oldster.. Anyway.... .. Been fond of them ever since... Looking forward to seeing this car run... Oh.. One more thing.. My very First Car ?? . Pont. Lemans.. Good Luck.....Carry on..
Happy to see the Charger getting some love.
Great 👍 job 👌 on the rear panel. This is going to be a neat project ☺️.
Bravo! You’ve started on the Charger and you accomplished a lot in one day. Those spot welds take a long time to drill out. Done that before myself.
As far as the color to paint it, those earth tone colors look good on the second Gen Chargers, so don’t be afraid to go gold again.
I don’t know what your painting experience is or how pretty you want to make it. If it were my car, I would put a gold metal flake paint job on it. I shoot custom paint myself and am doing a 73 Dodge van at the moment and she’s getting a full blown 70s custom paint job with murals, a name and theme and lace, candy and flake.
On your car I would straighten it out and body work it, then lay down a black base coat. Then lay down a silver flake base coat, then shoot some bigger flake (.015) and maybe even the next size up on top of that. Clear that with a couple layers. Scuff it and shoot the gold candy, then clear again three or four times. Lol 😅that would be a lot of work, but you must know someone out there who could help you with the paint to go that route. It would get a lot of attention painted that way, especially with some 15x10 Cragars on the back. Till next time!
I commend you guys for having the courage to take on this project but I have to say that is one rough Charger. I will follow you to the end and I wish you the best of luck you have a job cut out for yourselves!
I agree with the color black, it will be like the 68 Charger in the Bullet movie. Great job. Bill
This one's a keeper for future reference! I've got a bit of body work staring me in the face - nothing this involved, but a fair bit of cut & fit. My major hassle is trying to get it done before the first snow - which for us here in Cornhusker country could be within a few weeks {or days - 2019's first snow was Oct 15!}.
Black is a tricky color - gloss shows every flaw in the skin, but a flat or matte finish is more forgiving. However, a good shade of dark / Navy blue might make a good substitute. I've owned three dark blue vehicles, and with every one you could literally bash out a door ding with a rubber mallet, scuff the repair area with a Scotchbrite pad, and shoot some Dupli-Color from a rattle can - and it will blend in!! Don't even need to color-sand afterwards. If you're after something a bit different, "butternut" yellow is trending at the moment, and it looks good on just about anything. If you're bold enough to be silly, Panther Pink {which to my eyes is more magenta} hasn't been done to death on '68 Chargers. Hell, why not go for true pink - the shade Mary Kay Cosmetics made famous. Jay Leno has a '69 AMX that actually was born a Mary Kay car, and it looks gorgeous in pink.
Just sayin'. KUTGW!!!😎
The fun begins! One little trick I use to find spot welds on rusty panels is to lightly run a die grinder with a 2" 80 grit sanding disk over the surface and most of the spot welds become super visible.
Keep up the good work with whatever you are working on, ecnore those that text you complaining about Diy, most don't have a clue or the initiative to buy a classic muscle car and give it a shot!!!! Congratulations on you both for taking the initiative and sharing your experiences with your cars with us all!!!!
I'm all for the original gold color. I like the unusual colors. They stand out more at a car show.
I think the factory gold/black color combo would look good, or maybe yellow/black combo. Thanks for sharing the hard work/progress on the Charger. 🍻
Plum purple, it's dark, looks black unless you're in the sun.
great progress for one day, and liv not only are you learnung mechanics your learning body work also. i think thats great you both are working so well on these projects together
Gold with Black Vinyl... Saints Charger !!! Hello from New Orleans
You should have some heavy duty gloves on while using the grinder. If that kicks it gets ugly in a hurry, Safe travels my friends.
Great work it’s going to look amazing
Pro tip to save smashed thumbs and fingers...when using a chisel or center punch lock a pair of vice grips onto it to make a handle to hang onto and tada no smashed hands😊 gonna look great folks...
Great job glad to see you working on the charger
Couple goals!! Subscribed and excited to see where this goes. Keep it up!
A word of advice. Cut the spot welds on the panel you're not going to keep.
Great job , can't wait to see it finished ❤❤❤
Panther pink with a black stripe and vinyl top is the way to go.
Get a wire brush pad for your grinder and go along the seams to find the spot welds.
I’m a 30 year body n paint guy ur doin great brotha can’t wait to see it they do make a drillbit so little easier than then spot weld bit and you can re-sharpen the drill bit just a tip Lol love all ur cars
You gotta do a General Lee recreation surely !? The content would be amazing 👌
you should change the potiac for the charger you are going to look good
Looking good
Easier way to find spot welds is to use a 2" or 4" sanding disc and run across the flat part of the panel. Spot weld dimples will still be dirty.
Very satisfying. I would like to go back where we picked up a 77 C10 parts truck we needed . There was a 68 Charger carcus that was cool and a 68 Coronet RT 440 carcus with original 440 Magnum nearby in weather.. but it was there
Got to start somewhere. Looks like the quarter panel is a great start. Need to hit the underside with some rust killer. Thanks for sharing!
💯👍
When I see a '68 Charger ,the car chase in Steve McQueen's "Bullit" movie with that black R/T & iconic '68 Mustang in the streets of SF "comes to mind
I’m so glad you guys and gals opted to purchase the dodger charger and fix it up .. Excellante ..
I would paint the car the original color, with the black vinyl top, it would look killer! There were 2 golds in 1968 according to PPG (Graveyard Carz uses PPG, that's why I reference them): HH-1 81575 Light Gold and JJ-1 22807 Medium Gold Poly. Great video;) !!!
Got a '69 Swinger (in R-4 Red) that came from the original owner in central, west Texas. Back about '78-'79, they put the 383 powertrain & rear axle (with the help of tall shackles) from a '68 Road Runner in it along with buckets (I believe was a Pontiac). They drove it a little bit, then parked it in their "Back 40" for about 42 years. I tried to see if they had the original 340, but he had no idea where it went. Unlike your car, the body is very solid, including the spare tire well- what wasn't solid? The front footwells, due to the fact they ordered the car with the full rubber floor covering instead of carpet.
Watching you work on this reminds me of cutting out the entire floor of the car, lol. Didn't need a full floor, but did it and put in a 4-speed hump...since it'll never be a numbers matching car, it's getting the restomod treatment. Except for the rocker reinforcement, US Car Tool chassis stiffening catalog was thrown at it (after a quick check on a jig). It is much, much more rigid.
Your car appears to originally have been TT-1 medium green poly, if the person who painted it red stayed in the color book for '68, they used PP-1 Red
Panel replacement is my favorite videos
Great job Guys! That's no easy deal at all! Hang in there! You'll get it!
That year of charger looks nice dark emerald green
This car should be called the “Automotivo Bibi Fogosa Charger”! Bibi Babydoll is an expert user of the same kind of cutting wheel that you used to remove the quarter panel. When I saw the sparks flying I immediately thought of Bibi Babydoll!
Awesome!Takes a lot of patience but that car is so worth it.Gonna be great to watch you guys make progress.I’m still working on a 67 Camaro, although that 68 is my dream car the money adds up so fast.Think I’ll just have to stick to one car unless I hit the lotto
Here’s a color you might consider repainting it code FK5 Burnt Orange. It was a 1970 color used on Dodge and Chrysler products. Chargers look great in it. Check it out.
Great Team Keep up the good work thanks for sharing
If the fender tag is still in the engine compartment it will have the paint code suffix for the description as well as a stripe or stripe delete..good luck.
Good job! Looks great! Thx
The Death proof charger is the way to go.Mine is like that and people love it.
Love the new shop glasses. Lon from Ohio...
That job would just be intimidating to me, I wish I had the patience to that kind of work
Danny has the laser precision with the big wheel 👌👌🤙🤙
If it was mine I would glass blast the trunk and what you opened up around the inner wheel wells. I have a 57 fargo I've had the box and the front end completely blasted and it wasnt that expensive. Frame will be next then the cab.. I.ve sprayed everything blasted with rust killer that leaves a coating and seals it. So nice for welding patches and straitening. 10 years down the road you will wish you had.
Super Restror Projekt !
See Rust Bucket Restos ... you can see a lot about changing all panels in a charger 😉👍🏻👍🏻
I think black and gold would look killer maybe gold with black vinyl roof and some other black fill ins strip ing ! And for gods sake factory style wheels maybe you can find some that are wider than the skinny ones ! You guys take care love the video
Nice job guys and I look forward to seeing the final job, ❤LoveJim,J&R mobile service and God Bless
Step by step and youll end up with an awesome car
Both of you guys are doing a great about the very knowledgeable it takes a lot of patience you guys should be proud of yourselves 😉
Oh yeah. Looks great. That's how it gets done 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎
1968 that color was a spring offering 331 "bright red" in 1969 it was listed as R4. Sometimes it looks red sometimes orange. That car was painted many moons ago, mine is that color and faded to be about like yours. Maybe you will see it today at the Fling!
I would paint the Charger factory number color, except for the black vinyl top, but paint the top black. Less change of rusting & leaking around the windsheild with paint
Hey knarlee speed shop i saw at one point in the video yall mentioned gold paint under the orange
thats a cool find also go to the dmv and have them look up the previous owners for you may have yourself an actual general lee car from the show
theres always tell tale signs left behind
the easiest to find being where the roll bar was cut out of the car you can see
evidence where it once was just behind the front seats
if you start noticing oddities like that
the value of the car goes way way up
Heck yeah👌 it's coming together..
Just curious where are the VIN numbers stamped on your 68??
I can't seem to find any on mine that I'm fixing up other than the dash.
Nice show
❤ Gold and black.
Brace interior with welded stock to keep tom moving
Your gonna need songbird for this
That rear spring is jacked up😂😂😂
My 69 Charger is Y4 Gold , that looks close. With a black vinyl top as well.
I dig y'alls "Can do attitude".This might be helpful to watch....."Cutting up and replacing the rotted panels on a Big Block 1969 Dodge Charger" on you tube.
Drilling the spot welds are a pain in the ass but it is the best and proper way of doing it unless you overlap everything and then it really becomes a pain and then you have to use lot's of bondo at least the way your doing it will save lot's of bondo and fitment issues in the end.
Hi Olivia and Danny, suspired you didn't put the rear end on jack stands? My vote is for Yellow and black stripe on rear.
paint code H light gold
Yup - I'd go with that or even a medium flat Gold. Glad to see all the taillights.
Black doesn't show body lines very well. It shows dirt & dust real easy and need to clean a lot. (high maintenance colour)
Drilling out spot welds sucks. Finding them is the hardest part for me. I bought a body panel knife which is pretty helpful for separating panels and finding the spot welds, similar to using an air chisel just manual and the tool is a bit thinner. Did you end up just air chiselling right through them or did you stop and drill as you got to them?
On the less delicate parts like trunk extensions, we just chiseled through them.
GG1 Racing Green - an original 68 color.
Paint it Black like the 1968 charger in Bullett
I've always thought you should paint it matt finish black like Stunt Man Mike's. If that rivet remover is a bit incased in a steel or titanium case that is spring-loaded and had a stop-brake on it that prevented drilling past the bottom edge of the rivet you'd be done quicker with no drill-throughs. The brake would look like a tiny valve lifter.
Why not paint your 68 Charger "Citron Yella" (1971 paint code GY3), which is a fluorescent greenish-yellow. It's from the movie Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, made in1974. Oh, also that stripe down the side with the motor size. Hopefully a 440. Ed.
I think the battle ship gray or whatever they call it on the new Chryslers would look pretty slick.
Hi Guys. A Nascar theme, Petty blue would be Amazing👍
should have went tti exhaust they fit awesome
Original color and call her gold dust 😊
When you have a girl that will help you work on your car, you know she’s a keeper 👍
Matllac blue
When are we going to see progress on the AWD Chevelle?
As soon as we get the engine in the shop. It's about a month out. Trans and engine are coming in a box ready to run 🏃♂️
Fix behind the rear quarter panel and keep the original rear quarter panel. Spend money on shocks. Go Sam Houston.
Ember Gold
Watch Rustbucket Restos the guy is very detailed on how todo it
Check all suspension and rear end mounting areas for rust and damage increased horsepower will stress. These areas and rip them. Out
Medium gold metallic for that t
Year of charger
Thanks....wm
Take an angle grinder with a small disc and goo over. RiIVITs lightly to. I'd THEM
I do believe it's called vitiamin C orange maybe
Great to see this build finally started
Just a question I may have missed something
What happened to the other guy that was with you both(sorry I can’t remember his name )
Cheers
I think he joined the Air Force. Andrew🇺🇸
