To fix your wheel ballooning issue, use carbon fiber or similar thread in the groove of the tires and tie them down really tight. It'll act as support to prevent the rubber from swelling as much without changing the actual tires themselves or posing any characteristic changes.

Lots of Superglue & shorter and more tire screw pins more evenly spaced out. If you can keep the inner bit of the tire stuck to the rim you'll get less gyroscopic force multiplication with any 'flailing' of the tire that occurs. Also a possible smoother ride.

While it did not conform to using only 'Flexi Flyer' flyer parts (what this wagon was called when I was a kid), it was very similar.
Where it distinguished itself was its use of a pulse jet engine. He said it both accelerated and traveled at extremely fast rates.

Earned many subscribers with that record and with that commitment to creating the framework around which others may compete. I'll join the chorus of people saying to wear hearing protection:
I made the mistake of growing up awesome but neglecting hearing protection:
    motorcycles with just a helmet
    convertible cars on the highway
cars with limited exhaust damping :) a straight piped 1960 Austin Healey Sprite is quite loud
drumming/fifing in a fife and drum corps
    shooting guns
These things combined to form the Voltron of tinnitus, and if you don't protect your ears, you too will suffer from this insanity inducing debilitating problem. My right ear always, 100% of the time, has multiple tones like the sound of this guy's jet engine. A high pitched tone. 24x7. Left ear has a different set of high pitched tones always playing, but ALSO sometimes clicks like a Geiger counter if the slightest wave of pressure hits it, so I wear an ear plug in my left ear almost all the time. The left ear also sometimes wooshes with my heartbeat, which is super annoying to chill out at the end of a long day and hear woosh woosh woosh woosh.
I have been wearing hearing protection when riding, driving, drumming or fifing for about 10 years now, and it hasn't gotten any better.
But no, can't have nice things. There are dips in the hearing right around the pitch of human voices, and if someone isn't clear and annunciating properly, if they whisper or are just a quiet talker, I can't hear a single thing coming out of their faces. They may as well be pretending to speak. If they turn the volume up, but look the other direction, or there's a lot of background noise, I can "hear" them, but can't understand a thing they say. I can't have a conversation in a crowd that isn't shouting at each other.
When I go deep into the woods hiking or hunting, and you can hear the wind gently blowing through the branches of the trees? I also hear high pitched tones, clicking and wooshing. Sometimes, deer make noise in the woods, and most times I can't hear it.

Well done. Suggestions,,,,,,,,, 1. With your feet out of the wagon. Fully extend them, like a luge racer, ( a must look up) Then under the wagon and on the steering. Mount a plate that goes to as close to the ground as possible. Make a say a 3 to 4 inch gap. The take plastic edging and mount that to the plate until it touches the ground. Ride the wagon around until it stops grinding the plastic skirt. 2. Wheels,,, Major ideals. take the wheels apart. separate by sides. Heat the tires in hot water and measure the growth. Increase the diameter of where the tire touches. 1/16 " diameter. put real low friction sealed bearing in the wheels. Then full expanded assemble the wheels. The have the wheels and tires trued on a lathe and balanced. 3. Put side skirts on the wagon tube. close to the ground and grind them to. 4, put a filter on the intake of the jet. If an intake is needed. Make a cone to the front of the steering. (high pressure area). This will force CLEAN air into the engine. Enjoy.

If you do all that, it really isn't a little red wagon. This kept it as close to "out of the box" Radio Flyer as it could safely be.

Riveting project congrats to everyone involved that it didn't turn into a bloody mess. The steering damper gas strut was a smart idea to mitigate the treaded speed wobbles resulting into a critical crash. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter

Very well done. I’d say the next step is aerodynamics. You need to lay down so you can punch a smaller hole in the air. What was left of the plastic bushings? And have you actually corresponded with the SCTA about participating in speed week?

Yes, the Salt Flats are the place to go to set land speed records. It has been since 1912. But with that said, it wasn't intended to be done in a toy wagon. Much less by strapping a jet engine to it. The dudes that set records have like hundreds of thousands invested. And even some of them failed. But as we advance as a species, safety concerns became in an issue.
