nah, doesn't help much when you're really digging for cards, which is why you want to discard most of the time, since it only tells you one of likely five cards you'll receive like yeah, that's nice to know, but you're still gonna discard five so who cares there are niche situations when it can be helpful, i'm sure, but i see this in the same way i see the folk who used point calculators before playing hands: marginally useful sometimes but ultimately a waste of time
It really isn't worth it 99% of the time, though. If drawing a specific card in your deck would be absolutely crucial somehow, sure, but you're going to discard multiple cards almost all of the time anyway, it really isn't worth checking Misprint every time you're going to be drawing cards
@@SomeGalNamedEve I found precisely one situation so far where it could be worth checking out the misprint: You are looking for a specific card you need to win a round, you have two cards in your deck and a single discard, and your hand is full of gold cards. You would rather discard one card to get the ideal card, but if you discard and don't get it you'll lose. Checking misprint could let you know whether you can discard a single card safely and possibly save you $3 in lost gold you'd otherwise have lost if you played it safe and discarded two cards. Yay, Misprint saved you $3! ... sounds niche but I *have* been in this situation before, and $3 is $3, would've been nice.
so it should also in theory work when you have the '... cards are hidden' blind. though IIRC there's only 'the first drawn cards of each round are hidden' so maybe not.
This is an insane find. It gives misprint so much more strength. I do kind of wish it was exclusive to when you actually have the joker with you but either way it is a very unique and helpful card now!
@@Mouthwashh That's what they're saying. They wish you couldn't do it via the collection, probably because it means in order to be super optimal you now have to repeatedly pause the game to look at the damn thing.
That is a really cool Easter Egg ngl, pretty helpful for a lot of niche situations but not game breaking to where you have to check misprint for every discard
Technically it would be the optimal play to do it every turn but it's like calculating your score for every hands : it's too annoying to bother doing it unless you really need it.
this is like how you could the compass in the UI in Minecraft without crafting it. But also I think that this was intended to be used when you have the joker in hand.
It's funny, Balatro is written entirely in LUA, meaning it's possible to see it's source code when looking at the game files. Anyone could have gone to the function that handles what text shows up in Misprint's description and found it shows the highest card in the deck, but apparently nobody did that for over half a year.
This is fun but I don't think it's nearly as broken as people seem to think it is. It only shows you 1 card. That aside, this is an extremely cool Easter egg, so I'm still here for it lol
No, this is HUGE technology. But to use it properly it would grind the game to a halt on every discard decision. On white stake, you can play or discard 6 times before your final hand.
Wait a sec.... no, this has to be an oversight. There's no way the dev intended the players to be able to use this "ability" when they don't even own the Joker XD
Either it's intended and the fact it also works from collection is the actual mistake, or maybe the dev only wanted a random text to appear and coded it as the text is generated using the datas from first card so it looks random and meaning nothing special (and he simply crossed fingers so nobody discover the trick ever). OR, it is intended, but also itended to work from collection, because dev decided that if a player ever realise that stuff he then diserves to use it even in runs where he doesn't have that joker (like, as a reward for his crazy discovery).
Actually you can also use the collection see the current card for Idol or the current suit for Ancient on the boss blind where the jokers are flipped and shuffled.
@@link16600 Looking at the code, it's clearly intentional. It specifically checks to see if there's an active game context, and if there is gets the card at the top of the deck. If there's no card or you're not in a game, it falls back to 11D. Also, any other joker that has mouseover text that derives from game state (e.g. Fortune teller shows how many arcana cards you've played) also works in the collection, although I can't see anything that would be advantageous to know.

i think it should only display it when in your joker inventory, but hide that preview from other areas of the game and i think thats completely fine, since how otherwise unreliable misprint pretty much is, could make it a valuable early pickup
That’s actually wild that nobody noticed this (or at least documented it after finding it) Though I will say I hope it gets patched so that the effect only happens if you actually have misprint as one of your joker slots… having the optimal strategy involve looking in your collection every hand is really repetitive and boring lmao. It would also give some really unique extra value to having misprint
On the one hand, that's really neat. On the other hand, if I actually have to care what cards I draw, I'm probably about to lose anyway. After Ante 1, the game seems to have basically just two ways a blind can go: Either you win in a single hand by a wide margin, or you get a game over. There isn't often much middle ground, where the poker aspect actually matters.
I hope they remove this functionality from the collection, because that's both too strong and too annoying to check. Would be cool to keep it when you actually have the joker
When i started playing balatro and got misprint for the first time i thought the error text was some really high plus mult and that what mult you got was tied to what it was showing when you played your hand... I'd think this was intentional if you had to _have_ Misprint to do it, but being exploitable from the Collection is surely a mistake, right?
Either it's intended and the fact it also works from collection is the actual mistake, or maybe the dev only wanted a random text to appear and coded it as the text is generated using the datas from first card so it looks random and meaning nothing special (and he simply crossed fingers so nobody discover the trick ever).
