My mother was a professional hairdresser old school and could press hair like no one I ever knew!! She said the secret was in the comb's back not the teeth.
Miss Elmyra out of all the years your mom pressed hair with a hot comb, do you recall a clients hair not reverting back? I used to get my hair pressed down and it always come back to its natural state.
So true! The back of the comb got those roots down to the ends. My press use to last two weeks. I was pressing my hair in high school (c/o 1997). I love the straightening comb and the marcel irons.
@@motherof2wifeof18 My mother would tell me repeatedly that many stylists use the straightening comb incorrectly, including the young lady in this tutorial.
Most people don't know the technique she is using. You don't run the comb through like a regular comb. You roll the comb so the teeth flip upward and the back of the comb heats and straightens the hair to the ends. When my mom did it, my hair had a flip at the ends, which was kinda a style in the 90s lol. I want an old school press n curl but I don't know where to go. I need a combination of old school and new school practices at the salon I choose but that's rare
That style and her hair looks so nice on her, someone's bound to think there's some hair pieces in there until they try to root her and find out all that beauty came straight out of her scalp.
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the password. I love any tips you can give me.
@Sergio Benton i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
God bless you for taking care of people hair, I only wish blessing for you and your family, I would very much like you to take care of my hair if I lived in Fla👍💕
My ends suffer more with a flat iron. Have little to no problem with a hot comb. There is a science & method to using a hot comb. That was the only way we straightened our hair and it was great. I know you will laugh, but the hair protectant was just hair grease. There was no hair loss of edges, crown or nape of neck & no lice! The only reason for hair loss was due to heredity or hormonal imbalance!
I'm so excited I found your channel recently. It's refreshing seeing someone really care for hair instead of just styling. Keep teaching and I'll keep learning. Thank you. ❤👍💇
@Her Right There yes it the one you put on the stove?? Because you see the smoke coming from it but let it cool off a sec so it don't burn your hair? Because if you press ur hair rite after you take it off the stove it will burn your hair ?? I just fan it a min and then use it
Her Right There The correct answer is you should test it on a white piece of toilet paper before putting it in your hair. If it burns the tissue, it’s too hot. If not, then it’s ok to use. After you get used to using it you won’t have to do this as much.
Use the back of the straightening comb is not the teeth that straightens. The teeth just keeps the hair separated the back actually Smooths out the hair.
Ppl kill me talking about they are terrified of hot combs based off of what their mothers or grandmothers did to them! Your grandma and mama were not professional hairstylists that actually knew what they were doing which is why you got burned! Nice work stylist! Very professional!
My advice to you and those scorned women living with PTSD from perms and hot combs... Go see a professional. You should see a professional therapist.. while the other ladies only go to professional stylist. Have a great night! Smooches!
My hair has to also be pressed with a hot comb and I had my 2nd positive experience getting my hair done. The first was fir my wedding. Since I've been a widow for 4 years, I really wished my late hubby could've seen that I could actually get my hair straightened. He tried to press it for me. My hair stayed frizzy. But, now, I know what products to use. And my stylist does too. I always comb my hair going up 1st. My daddy, whom I get my extra kinky hair from, taught me that.
I grew up having my hair straightened with a pressing comb…..I never had any heat damage. I went to a Dominican salon for about and the stylist shampooed, conditioned, roller set, under the dryer for ~ 45 minutes and then she was use a hand dryer then flat-iron my hair. It was too much heat and my hair became heat damaged.

I like your videos but do you have one on gray hair and what kind of perm you think I should use and what kind of curling iron also shampoo and conditioner
How do u wear ur hair straight without changing its color cause my hair is mostly white not gray and because it is, when I press it it tends to turn a bit yellow tint and when I use to relax it it would turn greenish/ yellowish
Beautiful Job!. Just subbies to u. Want to follow u ad i want to go back to press & curl. The longer u wear it the better the press will last!. Nice job. U are old School good!. grace to u & All. gh
The client is very beautiful. I did notice(when she put her hands to her face) that her hands were 2 shades darker than her face. Plus her nose is a different shade. Her pressure may be high, or sun exposure while taking certain meds.I know this look. Ive seen it many times. I can guarantee her that if she simply started wearing sunscreen, she'll get her complexion back. She's beautiful and her hair turned out great!!
I have heat damaged hair like some in the back on the left side of my head and very front like a strand and I also have shoulder length hair kind of past my shoulder and I was wondering if I get a trim will my hair grow back and how long? Also will my hair be straight forever?
Help I like whaching you do different hair styles you know alot about all tyipes of hair and when to perm and not to not color hair keep doing a great job sign Kathy Davis.

Your work is Absolutely Amazing .... Could you do a Permanent press ? So it lasts longer ? As I think that would be very popular amongst your clients and pull in other ppl .
Do you do beard suggestion stuff? My bf is white with dark face and body hair and almost blonde head hair...he has a very coarse beard...I want a hot comb.

All I can say is when I press my hair using a pressing comb it just don't work before I can finish my natural hair is sweating back and I hate it. Also it makes me feel as if I have no hair cause it has no weight or volume to it.
