I’m pretty sure the only reason Unleashed is referred to as Sonic Adventure 3 because it was almost named that entirely. Until they introduced mechanics, Like the werehog into the game
Who needs Sonic Adventure 3?! Just give me the Open Zone gameplay with the momentum that Update 2 of Frontiers has given us but more refined, loops made into the environment, actually helps build momentum and give us fun ways of traversing, and then we have peak Sonic.
If they add a green hill open zone it should also have a city on the same island because it was confirmed in forces and the idw comics that sunset city (the city from forces) is also on South Island
My fear is that the success of Sonic Superstars reignites the general audiences' distaste for 3D/Modern Sonic and Frontiers becomes retroactively a bad game. People forget, but when Sonic 4 Episode I was released it was praised to hogh heavens by critics and general audiences as Sonic's return to form.
Well the difference between Sonic 4 and Sonic Superstars is that Sonic Superstars is releasing after Frontiers, a game that most people agree isn't terrible, and dare I say, maybe even good. Whereas Sonic 4 was released after Unleashed, and people were still trying to get over the back-to-back critical failures of Shadow, Sonic 06, and the werehog part of Sonic Unleashed, a stigma that the franchise wouldn't really be able to completely shake off until Generations released 1 year later. If Frontiers was to retroactively become a bad game, it would be because the next mainline Frontiers followup has a proper AAA budget and production schedule and is released in such a state that of course Frontiers would look bad when compared to it.
Unfortunately i couldn't get this video out in time. This was all written between Nov and Jan, and recorded not long after. It's a 2-part video, so i had to get all of part 1 out first. I figured part 2 wouldn't take too long, and would be out before update 2. That didn't end up happening. The whole time i was all too aware of the approaching deadline, so i even uploaded drafts with links in the description. Since it was all meant to be one continuous video totaling an hour and ten minutes, i figured it would be best to keep even the outdated sections in despite the updates already being out. That way there wouldn't be any gaps, and the work i put in already wouldn't be wasted. And just to be thorough i hadn't even started either DLC yet so that couldn't influence my editing. Though i made sure to include that little disclaimer in the video and another in the pinned comment.

I would put Sonic Mania and Superstars in a Neo Classic era. I consider them the continuation of classic sonic from Generations.
