In the second episode of our Uttarakhand food tour series, we have traveled to two most famous tourist destinations Mussoorie and Landour. The former is a popular hill station is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range, that was discovered in 1815. The latter is a military cantonment that is considered to be the part of 'Greater Mussoorie'. In this food trail we were accompanied by Lokesh Ohri, a noted anthropologist, cultural activist and flaneur.
Before leaving for Mussoorie from Dehradun, we stopped at Sri Prakasheswar Mahadev Mandir to pray. It is the place where Anubhav used walk up to during his school days for having the prasad.
Our first stop in Mussoorie was Lovely Omelette Centre that probably serves one of the best omelettes not only in the region. The stall is a favourite among tourists and locals alike. We tried their famous cheese omelette that was indeed an amazing omelette with bread and cheese slices. The perfectly done omelette was a perfect thing to try in the pleasant weather of the town.
Next stop was Chick Chocolate, where we had landed to try the Stick Jaw Toffees. These sugar and milk based toffees are so sticky in nature that it just binds your teeth on eating them.
From there we went to The Rice Bowl or Amitash Restaurant, another celebrated name in the town. They are popular for Tibetan, Bhutanese and Thai cuisine. Here we tried Chicken Mokthuk and Chicken Baikrapao. Check out the details in the video. Both the dishes were quite delicious.
Our next stop was Landour, which was half an hours drive from Mussoorie. There our halt was Char Dukan, a place where there are a lot of old and new eateries. We first went to Tip-Top tea point for their fabled pancake and bun omelette. The cinnamon pancake was phenomenal while the bun omelette was decent too. We also got to hear some stories about the place from the genial owner.
Next we went to Anil’s cafe in the same line whose Nutella Waffles are the best. The waffles were warm and crisp and the gooey and decadent Nutella on top just elevated its irresistibly.
The last stop of our trail was A Prakash & Co at Sisters Bazaar, a name that everyone in Landour reckons with when it comes to jams, preserves and some bakery items. We loved the cinnamon roll with orange ginger marmalade. Do try their products if you visit the place.
Soon it was time to wrap up this pleasant food tour that was full of international dishes and their gratifying flavours, picturesque and postcard perfect vistas and some intriguing anecdotes from the bygone era. 6 Hour from Delhi on Bike. I have done these trips many time. The real fun is when you walk all the way to lal tibba. I have done library to lal tibba many times. It takes time and effort but it's fun, and don't forget to stop at 4 dukan. Rukna hi padega if you are walking lol

Anubhavji.. very nice video.. pancake.. nutella waffle was a delicious treat for people with sweet tooth.. Landour was so peaceful and rustic.. the food of Chaar Dukaan.. really qualified as comfort food in the cold weather... Food guide uncle resembled film maker Mahesh Bhatt.. very knowledgeable person

My second home 🙂spent my 7 years @oak grove school, I remember how we used to save our pocket money just have that yummy cheese omlette during our weekend outing to Mussoorie.. the owner used to reserve his shop only for school childrens during weekend . I hope lovely omlette still has the same taste 🙂
I visited about a year back. The cheese omelette was the best I ever had.

Am an MA in English from Calcutta University...... I am in need of a residential school......do u know any school there where I can apply...... Just like you said u studied there...... Have been much wronged in my life by my near and dear ones..... Else I could have tried earlier only...... Am a bit old now......

Nostalgia!! Mussorie was like my second home as my boss s kids were studying there and it was my responsibility to bring back and drop them at school... It's a beautiful place and loved the food... Bun omelette etc were to die for...

Based on your video I just visited lovely omelet. But behaviour of this person making ommlett is so arrogant that he does not care about customers. Also if you order him 3 omelettes initial and want another one he will say no as we are asking him free omelette.
I seriously felt omlettl6is also ok types not so much different for which he has been given so much importance.
Those planning to visit him should avoid spending 100rs per omleete with so much arrogancy.

OK... So the moment he said "Best omelette in the country Award " was the moment I realised this establishment is definitely tier 3 smalltown hype. Places like this are dime a dozen across Mumbai and Delhi. The Rs.90 dish wasnt anything special to write home about.

It's some what surprised that you have not visited any paratha Wala shop because I personally have a very good experience of verius type of paratha at deherdun specifically Ginger paratha l don't know exactly name of that place but I can identify tahat spot till today

There should be entry fee for all the tourist cities in india and use that money to preserve the nature and heritage of these places. Otherwise, it wouldnt take long before these cities (Goa, mussorie, shimla etc.) turn into a trash room

Entire Innamullah Building for Non Veg food
Buffet of course- Dehradun has the most prestigious boarding schools in India and you will find young boys flocking here sipping cold coffees and sandwich specially on a Sunday
