This is a very good description of a very under used option in SketchUp ! It can really help you save "time"! I use these options to all my objexts that I add to my own 3D library. Very very helpful. Thank you again Justin for the videos. Have a great day!
Currently designing a house extension with 4 toilets. Moving a toilet component to different rooms and different face orientations is sooooooo time-consuming so I will definitely be setting that snap up! I can see it being very useful as well for vanities, fridges, doors and architraves, etc Thanks Justin! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.
@@Thesketchupessentials That's great. I'm in Australia 🦘🦘🦘and I found your channel recently when searching how to do something and immediately liked and subscribed. You offer some super tips and tricks. Thank you. 👏👏👏 Sadly I have an older version of Sketchup (2020) so cannot take advantage of the snaps feature, which requires 2023.1. I had bought a classic licence in the past, and recently Trimble took away several vital features - such as the ability to upgrade the version, access to 3D warehouse (so frustrating) and access to Extensions!!! I'm a semi-retired designer so use Sketchup these days primarily for my own house projects, helping my family with house extensions etc. I get the occasional pay-for job, but not enough to cover the annual licence fees for Sketchup Pro. I use Revit also but Sketchup is superb for perspective visualisations.
I've been using snaps a lot since their introduction, especially for connecting truss sections. But this is how I learned that the tractor beam function exists...
Hi Justin! I'm on a classic license of 2021 Pro so this new Snaps option isn't available to me. In 2021 Pro, I use the Alt = Cycle Through Grip Types option of the Move command. If the Group or Component is pre-selected, this option only appears when the Move tool is moused over the pre-selected object. Otherwise, the option Alt = Toggle Autofold is visible. Cycling through the grip types (really grip positions, I think) offers lots of useful albeit temporary snap locations with which to move/copy/stamp the object. For an off-object snap point, I set the origin of the Group or Component to that off-object point. My options don't do everything that the new Snaps option does, but once I learned how to use them, they often come in handy!
How can I lock in a "style" so it stays active when panning and zooming? Right now, my preferred style defaults to a generic style whenever I pan / zoom...and then regenerates in my preferred style when I stop panning and zooming.
Hi everyone! I'd love to hear from you - are you using snaps and if so, how? Any cool ideas for how to use this feature?
I had no idea of snaps existed. I'm excited to try it

Likewise, I've been using SU for a long time but never knew about this! Thanks!
I did a couple "oohs and aahs" when I watched this video. Tried it immediately and "It's a miracle!" Definitely useful. Cool!
Yeah in certain situations this tool is very powerful

Ooh I like several of those use cases - doors is definitely interesting to me :)

Thank you Justin!!! So many years using SU and I didn't know about this so convenient feature.
it only came with the SU 2024
@@burakiswatching Thank you! I thought about how I missed such a good command.

Ottimo... davvero una organizzazione eccellente di progetti e asset. Grazie!

...very useful thanks!
I keep forgetting
about snaps. I need to start using them more.

How is this different than changing the objects axis?
Sir why there's no edit and snaps in my Skp 2023?
Is this feature only available in Windows? I have just upgraded to SU 24 and I don't see custom snaps.
It is available from SU 23.1 on. But to find the feature, you have to open the Group/Component first.
Correct :)
...gut!
How can anything be the first thing you don't think about?
...what?
