No music, no talking, no power tools and a hundred tips for beginners like me. THANK YOU!
You are most welcome!
That's a mighty gouge, I have an adze with about that profile on its blade. A lot of people wonder why the beautiful handles on their tools break, but the way you showed the washer and nail so well, perhaps they will realize the secret to keeping the shaft from splitting the handle.
Yes. The washer was key. Thanks.
That hand crank drill press is a thing of beauty. I would love to find one, or even have a way to recreate one
I thought you might like that. I love it!
I had to crank one of those for my dad. I swore that if I ever got one I’d take a sledge hammer to it. I still feel that way 60 years later.
I bought one off of ebay several years ago and I love it! I fitted mine with an adjustable chuck
Chris, I am in love with that drill press of yours. Whats the make and model please? I looked on Ebay USA after reading the comments above, and they seem to be 250-350US. Is that about right or?
Excellent! Love the hand tools and great job on reworking the scoop into the gouge!
Thanks!
Many hours of work, but after you have a beautiful tool, that will last you a lifetime. And the feeling of making it, by your self, is good when you work with the tool. Have a great week. Best wishes from Jan in Norway
Thanks!
Originally I had a blacksmith make me this large scoop to help finish large bowls but I never used it and decided to convert it into a gouge. The wood I used for the handle is Jobillo.
Now just watch, you’ll need it as a scoop again very shortly
Beautiful but I'm not sure how I think about the tropical wood.
Hermosa madera con una beta esplendida
For sure!
It had been sitting in my stack for 10 years so it was time to use it.
Well made vid. I appreciate the close up shots of the work, without narration. Thank u.
I enjoy not talking 😄
Good morning Chris, great job of repurposing another too. That turned out really good. Thanks for sharing with us, Fred.

I had a crappy day, you helped make it a little better. Thanks Chris

Nice video, Chris.
You built nice tools there. 👍💪
It's really fun to watch your videos.
How you build furniture, bowls, etc. only with hand tools, in our modern electrical world.
🤣🤣
But working with hand tools can also have something meditative. 🙏
No doubt! It’s good for the mind, body, and soul!

Very very nice work!!
Thanks!
Good idea and nice work.
Thank you!
Me encanta la veta de la madera del mango, también fue para mi muy agradable ver que en RUclips hay alguien con suficiente sentido común para no ver la necesidad de convertir una herramienta de trabajo en un inútil objeto de exhibición. Saludes desde Colombia.
Gracias!
Excelente te felicitó, eres un Artista!!..
Gracias!
Nice work!
Thanks!
Love it Sir! 😊
Thank you!
Good!
👍🏻
Muito bom. Um trabalho muito rústico, eu trabalho assim também
Obrigado
Is the bolster pin loose? It would only take a minute to peen over the small end.
I glued it but should have bent it over as you suggest.
Hi Chris nice video as usual. if I were you I would have made the handle octagonal like the one of the pfeil chisel you use to make it. Funny you were using Gorilla glue.
I thought about it but got lazy!
13:00 spoke shaving like a cowboy 🤠
That was a little rough but it worked.
Thank you !

3 things, 1 I always enjoy watching your videos.2 do you ever describe or name your bench vise in a video-if you have, sorry I missed it. 3 instead of filing wood to smooth it i use a shinto rasp with corse on one side and fine on the other
It’s a Sheldon vise. I love it. Thanks for the advise.

The chisel is my favorite wood working tool. What is yours?
A tie between a gauge and a Japanese whaleback saw.
@@ChopWithChris I've never come close to owning a whaleback saw so I get it.
Good ones brother
Thanks!
Where did you get your hand crank post drill press from?
My uncle had it in his barn.
Amis carpenter
Good,electric bill are expensive
Agreed!
Hi Chris . I just watch your current video, great job. You were quiet on this video. Take care.
Thank you!
G'day, the handle looks solid. Also I really like the vice you use, whats a vice like that called?
Thanks! It’s a Sheldon. I love it! Not sure they sell them anymore but you can find them on-line.
@@ChopWithChris thanks mate, I'll have a look for an old one.
Why not pin through the handle? No support for the washer?
Not a bad idea but I did not want to create a weak spot in the wood that could eventually split.
👍👍👍👍
:)
