So can I ask, when do you do them. When you're feeling anxious or having complaints? Or just on set times to not complaints at all anymore ?

I forgot how to breathe and it scares me so much. I am shallow breather and I have so much anxiety because I focus on my breathing because I don’t know how to breathThanks for sharing this video

I've struggled with this my whole life thanks to early childhood trauma. My current strategy is to just obsess on breathing, watching videos, sharing them, advising everyone I know that all their problems are due to poor breathing. If it completely drives everyone nuts, I am forced to obsess even harder.
Perhaps a less abrasive strategy is something I call two-stage breathing. It's super simple for those times I'm too hypo-oxygenated to focus on a task, or when my muscles are worn out from breathwork which I try to get to about once a month. I just watch my breath, then push an extra inhalation or exhalation at the end of each cycle to make it deeper, both in and out.

@@luminousstrawberries Yeah it gets you kickstarted, but I have to warn against doing it too much. Any kind of extreme breathing practice can have negative effects if overdone.
The most important breathing you can do is just relaxed breathing, watching your breath go in and out naturally as a meditation. When I learned how to do that while working hard it really changed my life.
I say study breathing seriously, there are a lot of amazing ideas and practices and they can all help in different ways at different times.

I never knew that was a thing until i recently forgot how to breath due to a suicide attempt and sometimes my ribs and lungs hurt because i don’t do it properly then i feel dizzy and i stress out. I’ve noticed it’s affecting my health so ive been looking at videos like these to hopefully get back to my normal breathing. One thing that upsets me the most about forgetting how to breath is that i struggle to sing now. I hope i can sing as well as i did before..

So it's basically different forms of pranayam and kumbhaka.
Kumbhaka or breath retention inside or outside can help purify the nervous system. If anyone is interested search kumbhaka and practice it daily.
Pranayam helped me overcome depression and also improve my health.

Breathing and creativity go hand and hand. No matter ones job skill. A breath creates a center for action and all action requires a kind of breathing. From piano player to plumber, breathing is the action of art. That said, understanding breathing during stressful times is an art unto itself. 👍🙏

Thanks Bob & Brad. Watching your videos is itself quite relaxing and encouraging.
These breathing moves are lovely and even easy to do; on a bus, on a train, during *TV ad-breaks* ..... etc.
And with regard to the last mentioned, it could also help us breathe away the guilt of binge-watching.😊
I also like to think that if we get our breathing right, our fitness goals will be that much more easily achievable.

Repeat this out loud in front of a mirror twice a day while smiling and nodding your head up and down, because you are agreeing with your affirmations.
    1. Every decision I make is supported by my whole and inarguable experience.
    2. I affirm and encourage others, as I do myself.
    3. I alone hold the truth of who I am.
    4. I am allowed to ask for what I want and what I need.
    5. I am allowed to feel good.
    6. I am capable of balancing ease and effort in my life.
    7. I am complete as I am, others simply support me.
    8. I am content and free from pain.
    9. I am doing the work that works for me.
    10. I am good and getting better.

When my patients are struggling with pain & anxiety I hold on to their forearm and breath deep with them. It usually helps get on top of the anxiety before an attack that would need a drug. An anxious life makes one more at risk for Alzheimer’s disease. So stressful for the brain. We gotta keep up with all our emotional coping skills, exercise, and watch our blood glucose. Stay calm thru challenge everyone : ) Breath deep. 😌

Don't understand why it works this way, but on the 4-7-8 technique, it's during the 7-second hold when I feel myself the most relaxed. If I didn't have to breathe again, I could fall asleep right then! Ha!

Everytime I try to deep breathe like this I have to yawn like 20 times, so it doesn't really workkkkk

Square breathing really does work. Apparently even Seals use it before combat

I have heard that the exhale should be longer than the inhale because that lowers your blood pressure. Do you think this is true?

Many patients find 2:1 breathing technique effective and this exactly what you may be looking for. But I would suggest starting with diaphragmatic breathing exercise. I hope you will find both of them useful.

I wouldn't know how not to do belly breathing, except when running, when I don't care how the air gets in. With rib flare my lung capacity is not great. The only way to expand is downwards towards the belly. Which then flares the ribs at the bottom even more.
