I managed to do it for 7 minutes during the video. I've been carrying an enormous amount of tension in my body for a while. Got rid of a lot of it through physio but the jaw was still quite stiff. After 6 minutes I could feel my jaw fully relax. I'm telling my therapist about this breathing technique. I'm going to be practicing it more and encouraging my kids to do it too. So glad it has helped with your anxiety. That's exactly the kind of help I need. Thanks.

Did you also breath incredibly slowly? That's one of the main things with his breathing techniques. Breath so slowly you cannot even feel it in your nose or see your chest rise. You should have a slight hunger for air.

THANK YOU PATRICK, BOB & BRAD!!! What a breath of fresh air!!! (Pun Intended)
Why have we become a world where greed and power is more important than the planet we live on, the air we breathe, the trees that provide us shelter, the animals that we were supposed to protect and care for and for our own species?
It makes me very sad and digusted but watching this video shows there's still tiny glimmers of hope out there still.
Really from the bottom of my heart, I'm so thankful for you guys. And that you care more about the truth, ways of prevention and the soultions for ailments. More than just filling your pockets from hiding it.
It sickens me how Big Pharm and other big companies don't want "us dumb folk" to know the truth because they care more about profit than actual people.

@@blackmoom There's also a bit in that book that mentions how dentists have identified mouth-breathing as a major cause of not just dental caries, but crooked teeth as well. Makes sense though; our saliva is what kept our teeth clean most of the time for most of history, but if we breath through our mouths, the saliva dries up.

Life before Patrick was not fun, i would get so much grief form the wife, waking her up every night with sleep apnea and especially the leg cramps. "Darling can you massage my leg" and on top it could be very painful. The leg cramps i put down to my cycling and lack of stretching but no it was my mouth breathing.
For the last two years i have taped up every night and never, never, never had cramps or apnea.
How much would you pay to get a good solid night sleep ?

I have heard numerous times that this was improper but until I heard this interview I had no idea how to correct my breathing. I do have cold hands, but never related that it may be due to my breathing. Now with this information I have hope that I can change and breath thru my nose and realize benefits. I'm subject to panic attacks several times a day.... I find controlled nose breathing brings me through them rather quickly..... I don't suggest anyone do what I do but this works for me....
I slowly exhale through my mouth hold and count to 20..... Then I slowly breath in through my nose using the lower part of my lungs....Hold and again I count to 20 then slowly exhale hold, and again count to 20 ......
I do this several times until it brings on a deep yawn or deep sigh..... After that the panic attack is gone and I breath normally through the nose and exhale through the mouth with out having to hold.... It just comes comfortably and naturally after that... Works for me....

This made me think of how horrible of teaching the Fire or Lion Breath must have been that was taught in a yoga class that I took, a sort of open mouth, panting with the tongue hanging out. After hearing about closed mouth, calm inhalation and slow exhalation through the nose, the open mouth, panting, tongue hanging out Lion's breath is all stress and anxiety.

I have been cutting a 1/2" wide x 1" strip of quality painter's tape and placing it centered below nose with a 1/4" gap from the bottom of the nose (to prevent it from tickling). One benefit is waking up without having a dry mouth or need for water in the night, conversely I do not need to drink much before sleep. This prevents getting up to go in the night. It might possible that my exercise performance is improving after about six months of doing this. Certainly has improved for some reason and it is likely that oxygen processing has improved because of the slow opening of the upper nasal passages. Also the distraction of a dry mouth during sleep is eliminated as well as any possibility of snoring.

What an amazing interview and amazing insight. My therapist keeps telling me long, slow deep breaths. In through the nose out through the mouth. I managed to do it for 7 minutes and my jaw muscle fully relaxed. For the first time in years. I waken myself up with pain in my jaw from grinding and clenching and have even managed to cause myself TMJ injury. Feels so good. Will certainly be adding one of Patricks books to my christmas list. Great information. Fascinating info on working out. I workout most every day and find my mouth open a lot during the more challenging segments. I assumed this was due to needing my air during the intensity. At the same time I always wonder why it is that the more I breath in through my mouth the more air I feel I need and the harder the workout is. It makes perfect sense to me now knowing that in these situations I'm actually working with less oxygen. Thanks so much.

I have used a cpap machine since 2002 - being diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I had been complaining about severe daytime fatigue, even after a full 7 to 8 hours sleep. I have been diligent about using the machine. I am having fatigue again. Could mouth taping, with the cpap mask on, help me?

i have a deviated septum, making it extremely difficult to breathe through one side of my nose. I am sure you are all aware or the nasal cycle.. When my cycle switches to the side I have no airflow through, I breathe through my mouth. I am worried I will suffocate in my sleep if I use this tape. Can anyone explain if I am mistaken on this and I would be able to use this safely? Cheers guys, thanks

I have COPD, TMJ, tininis, deviated septum, allergies..chronic fatigue……I’m a mess…lol. It’s so hard to keep my mouth shut. It was suggested that breathe in by nose count to 6, hold for 4, blow out the mouth for 8 to empty lungs of carbon dioxide, do you agree that is beneficial for people with COPD?????

Could nose breathing while hiking at higher elevations (10,000 ft), help your body to adapt to the decreased O2 levels and pressures? I hiked the John Muir Trail at ages 67 & 68, and told myself that I would only hike as fast as I could while breathing thru my nose, breathing deeply into my lower lungs first, because I did not like the raw throat feeling that you get when you are huffing and puffing thru your mouth. I thought that my body adapted better to elevation than many other people, younger and fitter, because I was hiking more slowly, giving my body a chance to adapt. Possibly, it was because I was only doing nasal breathing? What do you think? Could nasal breathing help our bodies acclimatize to higher elevations, and reduce the chances of HAPE, High Altitude Pulmonary Edema? I also have sleep apnea - I am going to try the Myotape to see if I sleep better, even while using my C-Pap (which I would like to get rid of).

Nose breathing is recommended during long endurance exercise to prevent you from venturing into anaerobic respiration. At the same power output levels, the same amount of oxygen is processed. Only in anaerobic high and short duration efforts does it make sense to breath through the mouth. If you want to prevent (or highly reduce likelihood of) bonking during a marathon or long road cycling session, then breath through the nose. It acts as a rate limit. If you are actively bonking (blood glucose too low) then slow way down and breath through the nose. Mostly slow way down and let your body rebuild some glucose or you will faint.

The best method for having more oxygen available is to be in ketosis. Which can be done through the ketogenic diet or through fasting.
While being in ketosis the cells just need less oxygen to produce the same amount of energy (ATP), it's a simple biochemistry....
