Hi alex m a good fan of urs from south Africa, ive gotten my beardie at 2 months old 9 months ago which makes him around a year, however he does look rather small to me he isnt stunted as ive seen images of stunted dragons, i just feel he is growing slowly, he was a smaller size dan his sibling at the pet store, i picked him as he was a far better orange colour, ive been feeding him crickets and mealworms since ive gotten him, i want to switch to dhubias and superworms, whats your advice, my pet store does not offer a variety of sizes in dhubias its more on the adult size end, at his age will u recommend me feeding him dhubias and superworms as i want to beef him up and get him big

For anyone with over 2 primary insect-eating animals, I definitely recommend you start your own dubia roach colony. Not only are they nutritious (as stated in the video), but also not very smelly, easy to care for, easy to breed, and it saves you money :). I have 3 bearded dragons and I've had my colony for only about 3 months now and I am almost able to fully switch them off of feeders that I buy. So my original feeder bill (not including vegetables) was around 35$ a month and now it's only at 5$ every month, soon to be 0. But I hope someone reading this perhaps may invest in their own dubia roaches for the health of their animals :)

and for anyone reading this - discoids are a great (and legal) alternative!! they're pretty much the same. long lifespans, can't climb well, can't fly, don't smell, easy to breed + care for. pretty much dubia twins with similar nutrition value

I started breeding mealworms a few years ago, then I stopped feeding my animals mealworms and switched to Blatta lateralis roaches instead.
Well I forgot about the mealworms, now it's like 3 years later and they're still alive... They've been metamorphosing into beetles, bred and laid eggs, died then the larva has eaten the dead beetles, it's a perpetual cycle that has kept them alive for years without me realizing it.
I don't have any reptiles that eat mealworms anymore and all my tarantulas are too big for them so I don't know what to do with them...

I prefer mealworms, they are the cheapest, easiest to breed, and pretty much any animal will take it

I've never noticed any digestion problem, the only bad aspect is that they have to much fat

chitin can be a problem for younger beardies, personally I use them as a "snack feeder" - keeping them in the food bowl (now with a few small discoid roaches) for when my leo wants to munch at 3am. they're good for more diversity but bad as any kind of real staple.

How do these methods relate to tarantulas?
This is a pretty good video, but I have trouble finding vids on what's best for spiders.
    I have spiders.
I can find spider videos, but none really compare nutritional value for the spiders.

Oddly enough the crickets I have, have had them for 3 days now, they haven't made a single sound. Most of them are still alive, they have really good food in there so I'm hoping they'll make it for a good while. It's really strange they are so quiet though. I have them in my bedroom and was fully prepared to be superbly annoyed but nothing so far. No smell, no sound. Really weird

I believe the Black Soldier Fly Larvae (aka Phoenix worm, Calci-Worms, etc.) are more ideal than Dubias. BSFL's have an excellent Calcium content and do not require Calcium dusting. I feed my young Crested Gecko BSFL's and mealworms (calcium dusted of course)..

I (actually my dog, but) found a beautiful piece of wood outside a while ago and I really want to put it inside my snake tank, but I don't know if that would ever be safe, and if so, does anybody have any ideas as to what methods and/or products would best be used to clean it and make sure my ballpython doesn't get sick from it?
