@TheBeggies95 Elite is a word being used too loosely for these QBs today. Coming from a Baker fan, he's just not elite the sample size is too large at this point. But guess what, VERY few QBs are. So it's ok to be very good a championship can still be won long as he is surrounded by great talent and a stable organization
@@Heezo813you are both kind of right. I wouldn't consider Baker an elite qb due to the up and downs of his career so far. That being said, I think it is fair to say that this season, for the most part, he is playing at an elite level. If he can string another season or two playing at this level, then at that point you could make the argument he is an elite qb overall.
Baker had a off game it’s ok to admit that his trust issues are so apparent can’t pay you 33 mill to turn down plays take what the defense gives you and live with the results… but on that 4th and 7 he pulled a Houdini on that conversion and I love him for that but we gotta stop saying Mike evans coming back just solves these issues he still needs to try and build chemistry with miller and the others we will need more than just Mike evans to go on a run and Ryan miller is proving to be a really good pick up
Interesting video. There does seem to be opportunities that were available, but I attribute that mostly to familiarity timing & chemistry. Especially given that Baker's prior interceptions were results from the NON PRIMARY DEFENDER floating and getting into the windows of the intended receivers. I'm certain Baker had noticed since Mike & Chris' absence that the GRAVITY that those generated is NOT the same for his current receiving corp. Hence, his indecision, late recognition or simply turning those opportunities down. Personally, I'm okay w Baker taking the "live to fight another day" approach sans Mike & Chris in this wide receiver corp. Once Mike returns, I'm certain the gravity that Mike generates will allow Baker to be as aggressive as he's been for his entire career. The double-move by Ryan was clearly the best big play opportunity, imo, that was on this clip. As there were no underneath defenders to float and intercept. Unfortunately, that pass was off target. Yet Miller almost did make a heroic grab nonetheless. The O-line needed to really block that one well, given that was their BIG PLAY moment. Baker's improvising (using the spin move?!) was definitely a contributor to his mechanics NOT being there when throwing it to Miller and not capitalizing w that double-move. Reminder that football is a game of inches & milliseconds. Overall, seeing different perspectives does shed light what's going on - and I appreciate this breakdown. But for me a lot of these plays boils down to trust & rapport. That develops over time w reps, chemistry & execution.
I am more than happy with Baker not being so aggressive in order to take care of the ball. As far as the inaccuracies, I agree there were some missed throws but we don't know where exactly the receiver was supposed to be on those. Sterling may have ran that route deeper than he was supposed too which threw off the timing. I think Baker kind of hinted at that in the post game press conference.
Not sure if Baker missed Miller being openon that first play or if he hesitated because he doesn't quite fully trust Miller yet (he has dropped a few easy balls thrown his way) whereas Cade has been money on 3rd down.
Yeah all im seeing is trust issues here, Baker has the highest completion percent with the second highest wr drop rate this season. I’ve seen these backup recievers drop too many that are right in their hands this season, and Baker has always had a weird issue if his passes are bobbled they are almost always intercepted, so hes probably not taking the risk on these guys even when theyre open. Also historically there is not a team that Baker has played worse against in the 49ers so he might have been shellshocked a little trying not to make mistakes
It's very simple why he passes some of it up that looks open and it's what Qbs have been doing since the beginning of time they don't trust the receiver. Baker doesn't trust that the receiver will be exactly where they are supposed to be which makes him hesitant and have to hold it. And when a qb has to think before he throws it it's a recipe for disaster because you can't just go off reacting to the defense
You take any QBs 2 best receivers off their team in the league and it's a huge drop off. I love baker and his dawg mentality. We'll see if we have to draft a qb in a couple years but he looks to be franchise qb as long as he doesn't get hurt. Love watching these film breakdowns.
That first play Ryan miller is not the second read progression, you can clearly see baker turn his head to the left for otton after they jump on the option route. Second play I think your underestimating the angle and athleticism of the safety to turn his hips and make a play on the ball. Third play I somewhat agree on but I think it’s more of a chemistry issue, baker was expecting otton to sit more so he could have space to get some yac but he ran full speed to the sideline out of his break, 4th play I completely agree but it just seems that judging by where bakers head is turned the coaches want him to go through a different progression read other than what’s playing out on the field. And the last play sterling takes too long to get his head around combined with not going full speed out of his break. Overall good breakdown the bucs need to work on the fine details
Ok so I think the 2nd play the bucs need that 2nd trailer wr to turn around and break that would stop the saftey from peeling off the seam to cover the other seam route the falcons did a excellent job doing this as well you got to throw a wrinkle in on that trail route something to force the defense to come off the seam
You do know that quarterbacks have whole field and half field reads if they half read it is high to low. It looks like the 49ers was either in Man single high or a cover three single high playing middle third and hook curl.
I think he has improved tremendously to be a serviceable qb. Hes having a year that the Daks and Cousins have had several years. He is considerably better than he was even last year. But im sorry, I dont see hok turning into his generations Drew Brees. Baker is likeable, cool and gritty. But indont think he will ever lead a team to the promised oand or serious contention.
I see a lot of people saying Baker doesn't trust the WRs and that doesn't make sense to me. How can you not trust a WR who's open or coming open in their route? Baker needs to figure out his trust issues in his WRs and in himself. He doesn't throw deep often and when he does its usually inaccurate. I think that stretch of INTs he had has him spooked so he doesn't want to take too many chances.
On the first play, it was 3rd down. Pretty sure Baker went with the easier throw and the surer hands of Otton there. Bottom line though, the throw straight down the middle to his big-bodied TE is the safer throw than a throw to the sideline that's probably 5-7 yards farther, to Miller, who hasn't shown that he's a reliable receiver yet. Ymmv. And I have to disagree on your assessment of the play at about 7:30. for one thing, Palmer's break is rounded off; it's not sharp, which allows the S to drop down and potentially cut underneath Palmer's route for an INT. Also, I think the reason Baker doesn't fire it is because he wanted to see Palmer make the sight adjustment and take the go-route, which would've been wide open because the S was in fact breaking down on the dig or whatever Palmer was running. If Palmer runs a go- or a corner, he would've been wide open, and I think Baker rips it there. And when you look at the tight, it's very obvious that Baker wants to throw to Palmer, but something isn't right; he double clutches because he either wants to see Palmer do something that he isn't doing, or Palmer is doing something he doesn't like. And with the S breaking down on the inside-breaking route, my guess is that Baker is seeing all that open green space beyond and to the right of the S, and wanted to see if Palmer was going to make that sight adjustment and run the go- or post-corner. Other than that, I agree with most of your breakdown.
yeah i like the breakdown but at 10:15 you can clearly see that he can't just step into his throw because a 49'r literally lands in front of him where he is supposed to step up for the throw.
tired of media a-holes finding fault when they have absolutely no experience in playing the game. Unless your name is Kurt Warner, your analysis of QBs is worthless.
Yeah Baker has definitely been a big factor in mediocre offensive production recently! Not the only one for sure but he has to be better! With that said, None of it matters with this crappy scheme on Defense Bowles runs!
Your breakdown of the first play of the game was intolerable. Your pausing at a quarter of a second for a play not taking into account miller drops a lot more balls than Otton.
I don’t think miller is dropping that one bro that was a pitch and catch but yes otten has the best hands on the team rn but miller is still going to be a factor going forward
@ I get it and that’s why the 49ers took otten out the game in the 2nd half! He as to build that trust with miller I think he is a servicable wr that was more of my point
@@truthseekers5614 nobody is refuting your point man but miller blocks and runs routes if that’s the case Jarret who dropped key passes and otten dropped key passes shouldn’t be playing niether 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️call a spade a spade
If you pause the the first play 19 seconds baker drops back cade looks wide open linebackers all crashing down and if cade is the first read you throw it to the first read. The rest of the video was reach on all to you clearly dont know football
This was a bad game by Baker and I think it’s due to his confidence being shaken from the loses and the string of interceptions the last few games. Kirko chains would have nailed those open receivers and we would be asking why is our defense leaving guys so wide open
Kyle Trask would've made the right throws, Baker just aint the guy. Tom Brady won with plumbers at receiver other than Moss those guys were nobodys. Baker just aint gonna make it happen in Tampa folks....
Excellent breakdown Josh. These kind of plays are what's holding Baker back from being elite and instead just very good
Yes, well said!
Baker is elite this year. You can find some missed opportunities from every QB in the league if you pay attention

Great breakdown as always, I’d love to see the Defensive breakdown too for this game or the one vs the chiefs

Yes, Baker is being careful with the ball, especially knowing the defense is incapable of stopping anyone.
Holy excuse train lmao

Indeed - Josh did a great job with this one!
Miller is gonna be a good receiver. Smart player
He might be an ideal WR4 or WR5. And yes, he is a smart player. Good blocker in the run game too.
facts, high IQ guy
He is definitely rubbing off on me
