Thanks! 🙏🏻 Jukola is certainly one the highlights of the orienteering year, so I'm happy I was able to run despite the flu! Let's see what video will be the next one! 😀
After talking with a few others there must be a fair bit of thinking about what courses the other people around you are on to help plan your navigation, thats probably the best part of legs 2 and 3 where as long as you are at a good pace all runners should be on the same leg except for prehaps a few top elites running over you in late leg3. Some simple map work should aslo help identify a few common controls. Did having a mass of torches in front of you in the forest help or just distract you? Great to have elephant trails as long as the front elephant is going to the same place. Again thanks for the English version great job and a good run.
Thanks! 👍 Other runners will certaily help (or confuse) many of us in the forest. Typically you can guess that certain legs may have same forkings, but there is always some uncertainty. In the early part of the relay it is like you said that most of the runners are on the same leg with you, which can be helpful compared to the later legs and runners running parallel legs.
I like your videos, I've already watched the Finnish version of this race. 🙂 At 67 years old I'm getting a bit too old for the 2nd or 3rd Jukola leg. 😞
Funny, but I had exactly same controls as Tapio. My team 913, HS11, same club. I also had mild flu symptoms. My time was more than 1 hour longer than Tapio`s. 😂
That's probably the best tactic. The GoPro endurance battery should last over 2 hours with 1080p / 30fps settings. That's what I was counting, but just forgot to put full battery to my camera before the start! 🤯
I think you are still pretty fast. I am not sure I would be faster than you. It looks like difficult terrain with knee level vegetation and constant bumps and small hills/knols. I've learned some lessons today.
Thanks! Indeed it was pretty tough in some parts due to the vegetation. I must admit that I felt a bit frustrated as in the some years in the past I have been able to run among the fastest runners and now felt so slow. Anyway it was great to enjoy the orienteering! 👍🏻
Thanks, faster than me learning Finnish.
😅 Indeed, you get a bit more insights compared to the Finnish version. 👍🏻
Very nice video and a good race considering your flu Tapio! Looking forward to the next one 🎉

Obrigado Tapio I🇬🇧👍 👍
De nada! 🙏☀️

Thanks Terje! 👍 Indeed those longer legs can be already too long for many older runners, but luckily there are also slighly shorter ones.

Thanks Sakari! 👍 A good opportunity for you to re-run your course with this video. 😅 I hope flu is now gone. 👍
BTW, an Ukraine orienteer living here in Oslo who also filmed the second leg had very nearly the same forkings as you for the entire course!
Thanks! I will check it. 👍
My battery lasts for like 75-85 minutes. So, for longer runs I need to carry a spare one. Unfortunately last time I did not and missed the last leg.

Thanks! Do you count your steps to measure distance while running?
Thanks Jaan! In my orienteering I don't count steps, just estimating the distance if there is such an area where it makes sense.
