So cool to actually watch an interview of this man who produced "The Wizard of Oz" at the age of 38. If it weren't for this man, The Wizard of Oz would've not existed in theaters.
This fine movie Director is what Tinsel Town is sorely missing and bankrupt of today...Mervyn Leroy created moving artwork on film. He made it possible for actors to be good and real enough to be come stars that still shine today. He was so common and unassuming-yet a true artist at work in our midst; did it in good taste and so humble about it, he was a Giant!
When I was in college I would go to the town revival theater once a week. Every time I fell in love with a movie I noticed it was directed by the same guy--Mervyn Leroy. That's when I realized this man was a great, great, great, Director.
What an amazing man, great intelligence, heart and character. I miss this kind of depth in leadership. His keen feel for the story and pathos in the performer are what made his art timeless. Also, he has that interesting quality of speech that comes from old San Francisco, almost a New York sound. But being from a multi-generation family of San Francisco myself, it's like finding another relative. I wish I could have known him.

I only met him once but he was just as nice as he seems here.

Saw Five Star Final recently - brilliant
I am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang is proof that melodrama needs to be revived.
