That's not how RUclips TV's DVR works. Simply, they record every show from every station then your DVR gets assigned policies. Those can be everything from a national provider's VOD policy to your qued start/stop end points .. essentially the policies are a tiny text file to access local VOD and national VOD. Example your local 5AM "recording" is shared by everyone who has a DVR access, think of it as a text file (show ID, beginning time, end time, and policies) that represents license.
With the shows I record, I have been able to view the DVR version rather than the VOD version in most cases. With most channels it allows me to select the DVR or VOD version when both are available. The exception is CBS shows. If I start watching the show while it's still airing, I can view the DVR version and skip the commercials. If I watch it later (the same day or the next day), CBS forces me to view the VOD version and prevents access to the DVR version. Other than with CBS, the RUclips TV DVR works fine for me so far.
Maybe I'm just missing it but I wish RUclips TV had some way of letting you know that if you DVR a show it's going to have non-skippable commercials when you finally go to watch it. Or after one week it becomes available with the ability to skip commercials. Or an adder of a couple bucks a month for a "Premium version" like RUclips where there are no commercials.
Actually there is a way, kind of. When you go to watch a program, underneath the thumbnail you can go to choose a recording and you will get viewing options along the right side of the screen. If it says DVR then you should be able to FF the commercials. If it says VOD then it's likely, but not always, that you cannot FF commercials.
Tell us what you think of RUclips TV's DVR! UPDATE: Also, it wasn't our intention to make people think all DVR content will be replaced by an On-Demand version. In most instances, you'll be fine. Most users report it happening with CBS, POP, and Smithsonian channels. This is dictated by the networks, not by YTTV. Subscribe here -- ruclips.net/channel/UCto7KBa8QxsYLQLnPnKTd0w
Reviews.org well since they’re not charging a premium for the service, I think it’s pretty well understood that anything that you’re not paying to use technically is going to be supported by Edd’s so of course you’re not going to be able to skip the commercials. Maybe if they have a premium DVR service that they charge you for I think they would have to do things differently.
You totally missed the problem people have with video on demand! As I understand it, when you DVR a show, you can skip commercials. When you watch a show with video on demand, you cannot skip commercials. If you DVR a show and don’t watch the show within one hour, as I understand it, you then have to watch the video on demand version, which you can’t skip the commercials. No one cares if the storage is shared by the users. People want to skip commercials. There’s no technical reason why commercials cannot be skipped with video on demand. It’s a management decision that the customers that watch video on demand are not allowed to skip commercials. If the cloud DVR’ed programs that you can skip commercials, are replaced by video on demand, which you can’t skip commercials, this would make the service worthless in my opinion. I’ve been skipping TV commercials for over ten years. TV without commercials is dramatically better! Once you get used to never being annoyed with watching TV commercials, you will never want to ever watch TV commercials again. If the inability to skip commercials only applies to CBS and another TV channel that I never watch, then it doesn’t bother me. If I am not able to skip commercials on the channels I watch, that’s a deal breaker. Can you watch DVR’ed programs before the recording is completed, or do you have to wait until the recording is completed. This review totally missed the point that people don’t want to watch TV commercials, and they don’t want to adjust their viewing time to when the TV shows are broadcast. People want to watch TV on their terms, not the broadcaster’s terms. The cloud storage only has one copy of each show that is shared by all users, even with the DVR version. There’s no technical reason for the cloud provider to have a million copies of the same video file on the storage servers. The quality of life is improved with electricity, indoor plumbing, heat, air conditioning, automatic transmission in you vehicles, blocked telemarketing calls, and skipping TV commercials. Why would anyone choose to watch annoying TV commercials if they don’t have to watch TV commercials, unless they are too lazy to eliminate TV commercials from their lives?
That's why It's looking real attractive to me atm to pause 1 big Live TV service like YTTV , and sign up for 4 or 5 Individual smaller streaming plans while saving $5 - $10. Hulu On Demand has no ads. Netflix no ads. Prime no ads. CBS All Access has NFL coverage cheap , and news , both do have ads but It's only $6 ( or get an antenna ). HBO Now no ads. Disney+ no ads. Can use your own dvr and possibly undercut everyone ( Sling TV buffers too much for me , and Philo Is good but lacks news & sports ). Sadly all the main major Live TV streaming services have ads right now with their plans , but I feel you I HATE ads.
Hazy Sunshine It’s called “Comskip”, which is accessory program to the SageTV DRV application. Comskip detects the commercial blocks after they are recorded. Upon playback, the commercial blocks are skipped automatically. Comskip doesn’t always “mark” the commercial blocks perfectly, depending on the channel and program. So, sometimes you have to fast forward or rewind manually. The SageTV DVR software is free. You can record and playback many programs at the same time. You can watch on any TV in your house. If you start watching on one TV, you can switch to another TV and SageTV knows where to resume. SageTV also learns what programs you like and dislike, so it can record programs without manually setting the programs to be recorded. An example of the intelligence of SageTV. I used to regularly record and watch the Jay Leno Tonight Show, before the Tonight Show was destroyed by the new host. One time, SageTV recorded the “Good Times” show, which I never watch or record. It turned out that Jay Leno was a guest star on that one episode of the “Good Times” show. SageTV knee I liked to watch Jay Leno, and found him guest staring on another program, and automatically recorded it for me, just in case I want to watch Jay Leno on that show. I’ve also used Comcast and DirecTV DVRs, and the features and usability are barbaric and crude compared to the SageTV software.
Just got started with YTTV, so not much experience here. What I think I've figured out is that the only way to record a show from Live TV, is to add it to your "Library". Once you've done that, it will record all future episodes of that show. I wish it would give you the option of recording only new episodes of that show, like my cable service did.
That’s exactly what I’m trying to figure out. Why would I want the same episode multiple times a week? I want to record the first run only. Figured out a way to do thins yet?
So if I record Greys Anatomy for example, and don’t get around to watching until I have a few episodes it’s possible that RUclips will direct me to watch an On Demand option instead? Which means I can’t skip commercials? Back to satellite I guess.
It depends what you are watching... Live, VOD or DVR. I've been able to FF through some content's commercials, typically after it's been recorded to the DVR. As well, RUclips TV's documentation states that you can FF through Live TV commercials as long as you FIRST pause the show for a period of time. Then you can FF as far as you want UP TO the live time, including through commercials. Not saying it's convenient, but it is a workaround. And, it's 15$ cheaper than Hulu + No Ads as of Feb 2020. Plus, it's not really No Ads, it's just limited ads with only some shows having no ads.
Can you tell me why when I press pause on a recorded program, let it sit for a few minutes, and then hit play, it loses that function and tries to play a different program?
Thankfully, YTTV just changed that. They will not substitute your DVR recurring with on demand content. And, Now you can fast forward through just about any DVR content, including CBS.
If I set something up ahead of the start time no problem. But an event like a recorded ballgame has already started but is only 5 min. into it and I want to start watching it , it goes straight to the live action and wont give me an option to start at the beginning of the game. Is that possible, am I missing something?
You’re kind of basically explained how that works but I myself thought I had to buy a DVR and thought I had to download it on my DVR to watch it I don’t understand how this works at all I’m over 65 I was around before the telephones are around so could you be dummy it up for me and by the way what’s your basic price because that is the bottom line what is the basic price cost and what does it include that would’ve been nice to have thank you
Thought I could record Sesame Street on PBS (included in live channel lineup) so my kid can watch shows later. Had to add HBO just to have Sesame Street on demand. I dont get it.
This video is misleading. It makes it sound like all YTTV DVR content is on demand. If you set recordings, the only ones that don’t allow fast forwarding through commercials are any from CBS, and even those do revert to regular recordings after a number of weeks.
I just ordered youtube tv If I can't skip commercials I'm going to cancel. What is the best streaming program for enjoying network TV but also has the ability to skip commercials?
Sadly, this video didn't help a bit. Just loaded RUclips TV as a free trial and I'm watching live content, but there is no record button in sight. I thought maybe this video would explain at least the basics
Hit the particular show, just below title, hit the '+' button, add to library. Done. If you record before it airs, you can skip commercials, if you are on demand, it's like cable No Commy skip. YTTV works for me and allows me to happily give the middle finger to Spectrum cable Crime Syndicate...
@@johnn8414 Thanks, John. Since I posted this, I subscribed to RUclips TV and love it. I think the landing page/interface is not all that great, but overall I'm very happy. And yes, that good ol' + button does the trick. Cheers
My experience with RUclips tv dvr is that there are periods where content is skipped. Sometimes it is several minutes of a show that is skipped. Can anyone explain the issue for me?
This video is simply wrong. If you add a show, it is DVR'd, even if there is a VOD version available. So they are not saving space by substituting a VOD version for a DVR version -- both the VOD and DVR versions exist. In fact, there is a DVR version of every single airing of that same episode. For most channels, you can choose to watch either the VOD version or the DVR version of the program. The main exceptions are CBS and Pop where they force you to watch VOD if it's available. But after the VOD version expires, you can then watch the DVR version where you can skip over commercials. The other exception is Smithsonian. But in Smithsonian's case, the VOD version doesn't even have commercials. So the downside for Smithsonian is that you don't get to watch the commercials :)
He's not completely wrong because it depends on the network. For example, CBS will only let you watch the DVR version with the ability to FF commercials for a couple of hours otherwise if you wait to the next day you are stuck watching with commercials no matter if it's DVR'd or not. I think there are a couple of other channels that do the same but I don't watch them anyway.
What they do now is if a program or event has VOD and you recorded it both appear and you can choose the one you want between DVR and VOD versions. That started after backlash. Prior to this fall it was VOD over the recording and you could not find the recording. Me I find I like on Demand if I missed recording show that I decided I want to see. But having said that most everything I need is recorded. A example was missing a movie on AMC...it was on demand so saw it. Another example was being late for the Golden Globes and forgetting to set it up to record so saw the on demand. Seeing episodes USA network had of shows I don't record on demand.
@@alanvallazza9781 See, I'm still not following all this. Bottom Line: If I had to watch the Golden Globes in real time with commercials I would drink laced kool-aid. Can I skip commercials or not with something like this or, omfg, the Oscars. I watch that in about 45 minutes the next day.
HULU: Speaking of DVR, yesterday I ordered the full Hulu experience (no ads, hulu + live tv, disney+, espn+, etc). I've used DVR for nearly twenty years and before that VCR, so I'm quite experienced. So, I set three shows to record. Just Go With It, PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions. As Just Go With It was streaming I checked on it, and the indicator showed "Recording", and because I saw "Recording" I took for granted that all THREE shows would record. I got up this morning, and Just Go With It was NOT recorded, and the two golf programs did. I started playback on the golf programs and both programs stopped and were stuck in the first few seconds. I started a chat with Hulu and this is what she said "We do apologize but for the playback I can confirm that this is something our team knows about, and is planning to address. I don’t have a specific date to share with you as for when this will be resolved. But rest assured that our Team is doing its best to fix the issue as soon as possible." They have a DVR that failed to playback two of two shows, and failed to record one of three shows, and they sell this as a feature? This is a consumer goods company? They "know about it" and they can't tell me when they'll fix it? They already took my money? Their response? They said "We'll credit you 1 week on your next billing cycle." Next billing cycle? I'm one day in, and it's the worst experience imaginable, and they are so thick, they expect ME to stick around for a second month?
The best service is PlayStation vue. Unlimited DVR is held for a month. Now that they are going away I'm looking for a replacement. What's the best choice?
I have DVR’d the Today show since installing YTTV over a year ago. Typically, I watch it, via the DVR, each morning; then my wife watches it later in the day…until recently. Now there is only one viewing of the show available. Once I watch it, it is no longer available. We DVR a lot of shows, but the Today show is the only one that we can’t watch again at a later time. Any suggestions?
Can I set a program to record that going to air, say a week or two from now? It would be so good to know! Thx in advance! In our area PBS North Carolina IS on RUclips TV! We get a booklet of the coming month's programs published, and it would be awesome to set something to record that will be aired a week or two from now!
When I pause my live tv show it starts on its own after a few minutes. Is this normal or is there a setting I can adjust. I don’t really want to record the show just pause it for a while.
Yes and no. I think they backed off from making on-demand stuff the norm. But there's still language on their site that indicates that they may still make you watch the on-demand version. Best to be prepared for it.
The majority of shows I have watched there has been the ability to choose between a DVR version an a VOD version. There are some exceptions, some are only VOD or DVR. I'm surprised you made this video as I usually like your reviews but this one is very misleading.
@@ThePdxster Our intent wasn't to be misleading, we get asked that question all of the time by our viewers, so we wanted to explain it. But we are getting some backlash from it, so we'll find a way to address it. We appreciate you watching.
I recorded several daily shows for a week for. The Platinum Jubilee by adding them to my library. After a week , I removed the show from my library and got the message that it would stop recording future shows but recordings would be available until expired. The next day all recordings were gone (not in new recordings or shows). The message is incorrect, youtubetv will delete recordings if removed from library. Recordings are supposed to be available for nine months.
Hello, I'd Like To Know Why When You Pick A Show With The (Plus Button) It Records All Of Them. I Am Asking Why Can't You Take Out The One Episode You Have Watched And Let It Still Record The Other Ones. When I Tried To Take One Out It Took Every Thing Out From The Show I Like. I Had To Go Back And Hit The Record Button Again. If Some One Know How To Just Take Out 1 At A Time Please Let Me Know. This Is From RUclips TV. Thanks : Bob
So then why does RUclips TV not permit you to record a specific episode of let's say "The Simpsons" ???? You wind up recording all the episodes whether you want them or not.
I want to know how you can add minutes to a future recording like a football game which frequently goes long. This happened the very first time I recorded a football game.
How is this different than cable? I record a show (after it's run live) and I access it and fast forward thru commercials. If I watch HULU no commercial plan, I get no commercials. If I want to watch live on cable, I have to pause. Is this the way YouTUBE TV works in each of these scenarios? Because I can't find this simple question's answer.
Hulu Live with the 200GB DVR, you can skip EVERY commercial on EVERY recording, for 12 bucks more than RUclips TV. I haven't seen a TV commercial in over a year.
@@CrimsonTideGuy totally agree. I was actually ready to pull the trigger on YTTV and get rid of cable, but there are some terrible misses with YTTV, the DVR being one of them. The on screen guide is the other fail, IMHO. Hulu + Live TV allows you to scroll 2 weeks in advance like a more traditional Cable or Dish environment. I ended up going back to cable for those two reasons. If I add something to my "Library", I don't want to immediately see 10 old episodes I don't care about. And I want the ability to "delete" a show, or at least filter it out of my Library view so I only see what I care about, which are shows I have not watched yet
Ron - I tried Hulu + Live TV, including the "Ad Free" add on. But I don't believe you can record a Live TV show and skip commercials, even with the add-on. I tested that out and there are some things you 100% cannot avoid ads, even with the add-on that you pay for. For example, my wife watches Grays Anatomy, that is one of the shows that automatically comes with ads. No getting around that
Does anyone know what is going on with missing episodes? Like Brooklyn 99. I have only season 1, 5, 7. And season one has only episodes 1,2,5,7. What is up with this?
@3:00 you don't explain what's annoying. Who cares where it's stored. What we don't know is if there's a lag when you want to watch it while it copied over, or you can't skip commercials or whatever. As a shopper, I still don't know what's annoying about their approach.
Yes, Indeed.. Here's how to do it. On my tv I brought up RUclips TV in LIVE mode and went down the list of active shows until I found the program that I wanted to record. I then went online with my iMac and brought up tv.ruclips.net/user/live using Chrome (it won’t work on other browsers apparently) and saw, of course, the same line up of active shows that were on my tv. When I clicked on the same show on the channel, I got the pop-up window with the + button. I clicked on the + button which started recording the active show from that point of time onward. Then I shut everything down. Later I brought up RUclips TV in LIVE mode and changed it to HOME Mode where I could see the desired recording. Then I chose the RESUME WATCHING button and voila, I got the continuation of the show I wanted to watch.
I add a movie to my Library on RUclips TV, it said upcoming, so waited till it was aired, recorded it. Then I watched it, but fell asleep half way through. Now when I go to view again, it gives me a new air date, and i have to wait again ? This is not DVR. Once its recorded, i should have it to view Anytime for up to 9 months. Anyone have any input ?
Why have none of these questions been answered. If you can't "necessarily," "asterisk," "may or may not work" ff thru commercials, how do you know if a program CAN be recorded and zipped through? Does it change suddenly? Like you've recorded it and you COULD zip thru but now a few months later you can't? or vice versa? And how about answering these questions?
I was trying to choose between Sling and RUclips TV and chose RUclips TV because I didn't want an antenna just to have local channels plus I would not have Fox with Sling. And with sling everything was super grainy low quality and pausing. Super clean viewing with RUclips TV.
Some series have VOD versions (of some or all episodes) that you can watch withOUT having to first checkmark/plus sign the series (or without having to set it up for recording). However, once you do checkmark a series it will record each episode once it airs live than those episodes specifically will be DVR versions (instead of VOD versions). That's what I've found so far.
Honestly, each has its limitations. Our favorite DVR overall is RUclips TV's DVR. Some of them make it so you can't fast forward, or so you can't record specific channels. We have a vid launching next Wednesday that will address this more.
RUclips TV DVR sucks. We have no control over single episodes, new or repeats, removing individual episodes after we watch them, and more. The issue isn't about recording space and unlimited DVR, nor the amount of time recordings remain. The issue is about organization, control, preference, clutter, and simplification. I don’t want Google controlling my space. I want to control my Library. Why have a bunch of unwanted and unnecessary shows, programs, and episodes to navigate through? And every time another episodes airs, new or repeat, that is yet another episode we have to navigate in the clutter of shows for the series.
I've been using RUclips TV since December and I love this feature...with one exception. Playing a recording from CBS is a VOD, which means I can't fast forward through commercials. All other channels that I've used allow fast forwarding through commercials.
Too bad they don't let you remove already viewed episodes, record new episodes only, or record single episodes. Their slogan should be "A DVR that you cannot control," or "We control your DVR just to annoy you."
If I could pay $5/month to never see a commercial again i would, gladly! This is why Netflix kicked everyone's ass in content. We ALL hate commercials. Just saying.
I agree and it's frustrating. I've tried paying the extra 5 bucks for Hulu with No Ads but that's not true, it's just limited ads. Many shows still show ads which you can't skip. And because hulu just went up by another 10$ this past December I switched over to RUclips TV which is cheaper and better in many ways. They don't have the Limited Ads functionality but there are workarounds to FF through many commercials. From what I've read online the commercials for all networks are actually part of the content which means cable companies and streaming services aren't permitted (by contract) to skip them outright. But, some streaming services provide workarounds to FF past commercials by pausing a live program for a period of time (etc.) then FFing through the commercials. Or, by providing DVR funcitonality which may also let you just FF to any part of the recorded program. I wish it was all easier for us to not see the ads but the networks set it up in a way that its part of the content itself.
With my own personal DVR on Comcast my recordings don't get deleted unless I change the equipment or something goes horribly horribly wrong with the service. Otherwise you keep your recordings forever. You only get to keep them for less than a year? What if it's something you just don't get around to watching for a year but you still really want to see it and it's not available on On Demand or not available without paying some hefty price tag. I don't like that. I once watched a recorded season of a show I had for almost 2 years.
Fair enough point! Maybe Hulu would be better for you? I don't know how their's works. I'm trying the free trial for youtube tv then I'm going to check out hulu live tv
The way my RUclips TV works is it allows me to choose a version whether it is the DVR (longer recording but allows you to skip ads manually) or VOD (shorter recording with static ad breaks that cannot be skipped)
@@griffinbjornstad3517 I don't think you can on RUclips TV because your location is required to determine which content you have access to therefore off line viewing would not be available with YT TV... I believe
this is not true anymore they don’t substitute DVR content for On demand. so how can youtube tv record all those shows? how much space does it take to do it on their end?
The easiest way to do this is to log in to you tube tv on your tablet or computer and go to your library. You can then mark individual episodes as watched.
I am confused. RUclips TV gives you the option to watch the DVR from the recording or the VOD on the network...you simply select it from "choose a recording"
I have movies saved to watch later and then found out they had like 9 commercials yellow bars each? I just unchecked them. Who wants to pay $50 a month and spend 2-3 mins to watch commercials every 10-15 mins?
This isn’t accurate. You can choose to watch your DVR version, or the on demand version. The DVR version allows you to skip commercials, regardless of the content’s existence in the On Demand library.
Check what your actual download speed is at the TV - for example if you are using WiFi and the router is some distance from the TV, you won't be getting 25 Mbps at the TV. A minimum of 9 Mbps download is recommend for HD streaming, so you SHOULD be okay, assuming you have a direct Ethernet connection or you have a good WiFi signal.
Lol. I love this video. When you asked “what are the kids watching these days?” I almost hit the floor! You name off Mash, Hogans Hero’s, Threes Company, and friends. I just subscribed I RUclips TV 2 weeks ago and that’s the exact shows and exact order that I set to record! Well, I did also add Ghost Adventures though. Lol. No kidding!
i guess im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Apollo Eli i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I am ok paying extra$5/mo for personal recording for say 100hours of recording, or have it recorded on my local computer. But I hate when a show is in the on-demand area and therefore I am forced to watch commercials. I hope RUclips/Google is getting this feedback from more subscribers and that they are listening
the youtube DVR is HORRIBLE so far for me. Had youtube tv for 2 months. Lets say Im a few minutes late into a show and I hit record. It doesnt start recording like a normal DVR would. Instead it just ques it up to record every episode that appears AFTER the one im trying to record. I end up having to wait a day for it to become available on demand which defeats the purpose of me wanting to record. And if its something that never will repeat or appear on demand then Im screwed. Seems like being able to hit record on a live show and have it start recording from that point forward isnt too much to ask. Thats like the very basic function of any recording device. Besides all that theres no way to have it record ONLY new episodes. Kinda annoying when you have to sift through 25 reruns of ancient aliens in 1 week just to get to the new episode. Id rather have limited storage space than have to sift through a thousand episodes that I didnt intend to watch
This was only for some channels, and recently this has been mostly fixed for most but a hand full of channels, and will get better with more subscribers and partnerships. Also the recordings are stored even though you're forced to watch VOD, so this visual is not correct. Due to some LICENSING things it will force you to watch the VOD on a couple channels, but now that like cw and CBS doesn't, i don't know which ones even do anymore
@@IGRounderI have found that if I fast forward through till the last minute and let that play it then seems to mark it as viewed and removes it from the queue.
So RUclips TV technically does not have a recording feature and just tricks people into thinking it has it when in reality it's on-demand stuff only... that's a nasty approach of Google. So if I can't skip ads even when watching "recorded" programs, is there another way the service let's me do so? Because tbh ads are the WORST specially when watching tv shows😱
It's not on every show. It also isn't consistent. For instance, I DVR "The Walking Dead". Some weeks I can fast forward commercials other weeks I can't. Another example is I DVR the morning news so I can quickly see the weather & traffic report before I leave and it works great. I also DVR "The Flash & Arrow" on the same channel but the shows seem to be pulled from the On Demand server and I'm forced to sit through a 4-6 block of commercials that I can't fast forward past. The good thing is you get a count down of how many minutes the commercial block is and the number of commercials... In case you need to use the bathroom or make a sandwich ;-)
It’s definitely not on every piece of recorded content. It only happens sometimes. But, when it does happen, it confuses users, so that’s why we made the video. The DVR is very impressive overall.
@@stigmsr1 I don't know if you tried it yet but underneath the thumbnail is a greay box titled "choose a recording." Sometimes when I was recording something it would do the same thing and I never noticed the choose option before. When I clicked on it it gave me the option of DVR or VOD.
Not how it works. It records any content ONCE as long as someone adds it to their library, then EVERYONE can play any version of the recordings for that specific content. In other words, you don't have a personal space, you have storage for pointers to a single recording. When you look at the versions, you'll see a VOD (if one exists) and any other recordings that are tagged as that movie or show. You don't have to watch the VOD if a DVR recorded version(s) exist. That's how Google can give the unlimited space. It's totally brilliant because the storage is almost laughable compared to storing the same recording thousands of times, they only store it once and add the pointer to your library. If you remove it from your library, it doesn't erase it... in fact RUclips TV even tells you it's still available for the next (number) of months, they just remove the pointer from your library.
We did a trial subscription, and my wife told me that she could not FFWD through the commercials on some of her DVR'ed content. THIS made perfect sense why. Sticking with DISH for the time being. With all the major issues in the world I feel a little silly airing this minor annoyance, but at least I didn't mention how much I hate Donald Trump. Eh, f' it. Thanks from Texas
Since this video, the policy has changed. DVR space is still unlimited, and they will no longer substitute VOD content for your recordings. Thanks google!
All I know is I wish Playstation Vue was still around. Except for those that want to archive tv (geez) as you could only keep up to 28 days they had it all. Sucks
I HATE it. What pisses me off is for instance vacation was on. It has about half way through on live tv (paramount I think) I clicked add to library. Well it only records from where it was half way through. That's all fine but Vacation comes on again in 2 hours. It WILL NOT record or add that full version to my library because it's already there. Can you delete it? Nope. You can remove it from the library but it will still be available for the 9 month when it expires (the half of a movie). It absolutely sucks. They need to allow you to just delete shit if you don't want it and not have to do that crap from a computer. Thinking of going back to sling.
So if 100,000 people record "Show X" YTTV is going to store 100,000 copies of "Show X?" I doubt it... I watched this video for an explanation of that. Fail. Assume "Show X" is 1GB. Google can either use 1GB of storage and share the single recording in common markets or Google can use 100 terabytes of storage and give everyone their personal recording. I think YTTV is unlimited because they are using some type of the former. After all it would be 1/100,000th the storage cost. I believe I've seen this in action when I "record" a movie midstream and after the movie ends the complete movie is available (and I'm not talking the VOD version is being made available). I'm guessing because someone else in my market recorded it. I have to test this further though... I've had YTTV for less than a month and it's great so far!
Hulu, direct stream offer up to nine months unlimited too. Sounds to me like youtube TV is no better than direct stream. All this info and it makes the extra for Hulu worth it.
I was able to fast forward through the commercials of the programs that put in my library. This is not enough detail on how it exactly works. I need more technical info. This is an incomplete analysis!!!
Why does this matter? Except for CBS, I can watch any show I “recorded” and skip the commercials. Who cares if it s public or private. And being that it is google, the throughout is great.
That’s awesome that most of your content allows your to skip. Other users have reported different things. As for the servers... Most people don’t care if it’s public or private. They get confused when they have something recorded to the DVR but then can’t skip ads on it because it’s forcing them to watch the On-Demand version. We just use “Shared” and “Private” to explain the concept of what’s happening behind the scenes.
Reviews.org I think you need to test this a bit more. Except for CBS, all other channels that I “record” are not on demand forcing me to watch commercials. I would be rather baffled why others would have a different experience.
CBS is stingy I recorded the NCAA tournament and two days later is was not available. Only have the problem with CBS on sporting events that I know off.Either that or I had a error trying to retrieve the game.
Reviews.org Okay, but then that is only a few channels that force you to use VOD rather than the DVR function. The video you created seems to imply it’s the other way around.
Thank you for explaining the reason why youtube TV's DVR acts the way it does. But you didn't compare the youtube TV DVR to a conventional DVR. Bottom line, a DVR should provide ad-skipping on ALL pre-recorded content. That's the way I used my VCR, and the DVR that followed it. RUclips TV is about 50 years behind the times. I cancelled youtube TV after one month because of its poorly performing DVR.
I think this is extremely reasonable. If you want to always be able to skip commercials, just watch the content before it's available on an On Demand service. Perfect for re-watching the game without spoilers, or niche single-airing television specials. Mostly anything else you were likely going to try to find online anyway, making the DVR recording redundant. Maybe I'm just too young to be annoyed by this.
Gee, you really talk fast. I want to know how - while in RUclips TV "LIVE," I can see all of the programs that are already scheduled to be recorded as I scroll down the list. Plus, how to keep RUclips from recording reruns. And finally, know which programs are going to "BLOCK" me from fast forwarding through commercials or do it automatically. I can't find where your website is "at the bottom" or if you have a "search box" to find similar questions about RUclips TV. For people of a certain age, it is really complicated to navigate after using a cable provider for a long time. Plus, I don't think you mentioned that there really is NO WAY to get help from a "real person" that actually works for RUclips.
Can't understand why it would be annoying. So long as you can see the movie/series you recorded who gives a rat's butt where it comes from? Only problem is, if it is in the demand area you should still be able to skip commercials. If not, then can see the annoyance of the idea. That aspect has NOT been discussed in this video...WHY NOT?
If I have to watch commercials, this is a no-go. Period.
It’s really not that big of a deal lol
That's not how RUclips TV's DVR works. Simply, they record every show from every station then your DVR gets assigned policies. Those can be everything from a national provider's VOD policy to your qued start/stop end points .. essentially the policies are a tiny text file to access local VOD and national VOD. Example your local 5AM "recording" is shared by everyone who has a DVR access, think of it as a text file (show ID, beginning time, end time, and policies) that represents license.
How do we fast forward through the commercials. This could be a deal breaker. They really need to fit this issue
That's awesome if you are getting the DVR'd version most of the time. Fewer commercials makes us happy!
CBS sucks !!!!
Why can’t I download movies from VOD or how do I download movies to watch them offline I need help quick
Why can’t I download movies from VOD or how do I download movies to watch them offline I need help quick

@@Jaybroney Absolutely, it's all about trade-offs. That's why ultimately someone may prefer to pay $10 for Hulu Live's 200-hour cloud DVR.
@@ReviewsOrg We have a problem with dvr playback, it spins forever and then just blank screen.
Why would you ever waste your time watching commercials on TV, when you can watch only recorded TV, and fast forward through the TV commercial blocks?
@@daveborchard2019 OK so what service have you used to skip commercials for over 10 years?
Why can’t I download movies from VOD or how do I download movies to watch them offline I need help quick
Sounds similar to HULU.
So if I record Greys Anatomy for example, and don’t get around to watching until I have a few episodes it’s possible that RUclips will direct me to watch an On Demand option instead? Which means I can’t skip commercials? Back to satellite I guess.
they give you an option to choose whether you want to watch the recording or vod
I can't fast forward through commercials on RUclips tv like they say. Not good!
same
It depends what you are watching...
Dan Martin he explains why in this video
I can....works just fine
Rick Anderson it’s been changed since that comment, youtube tv doesn’t replace dvr with vod so anything u record u can skip through
What is the point (other than watching something when you want to) of recording if you cannot skip thru the commercials?
i wish they would give you an option to delete a particular episode that you watched without removing all future episodes. its ridiculous
why would u want to delete it? it’s unlimited storage and it being there has no impact to you
@@chrome6449 If you need the concept of organization explained to you, you're dumb.
Enniannu if you need the concept of simply removing what you don’t want explained to you, you’re dumb
Alan P then remove it from library, and it goes away
or just mark as watched, it’s really not hard
Can you tell me why when I press pause on a recorded program, let it sit for a few minutes, and then hit play, it loses that function and tries to play a different program?
Thankfully, YTTV just changed that. They will not substitute your DVR recurring with on demand content. And, Now you can fast forward through just about any DVR content, including CBS.
Thank the lord!
If I set something up ahead of the start time no problem. But an event like a recorded ballgame has already started but is only 5 min. into it and I want to start watching it , it goes straight to the live action and wont give me an option to start at the beginning of the game. Is that possible, am I missing something?
What about NBA games that I record from TNT, ESPN, or other networks. Can I skip commercials?
Id love to know if Spectrum cloud storage is this way too.
@@kenyattaclay7666 yes, Pop and Smithsonian. I guessing you didn't read the second paragraph of my comment?
What they do now is if a program or event has VOD and you recorded it both appear and you can choose the one you want between DVR and VOD versions. That started after backlash. Prior to this fall it was VOD over the recording and you could not find the recording. Me I find I like on Demand if I missed recording show that I decided I want to see. But having said that most everything I need is recorded. A example was missing a movie on AMC...it was on demand so saw it. Another example was being late for the Golden Globes and forgetting to set it up to record so saw the on demand. Seeing episodes USA network had of shows I don't record on demand.
Thanks for the details. I can live with that.
But rest assured that our Team is doing its best to fix the issue as soon as possible."
They have a DVR that failed to playback two of two shows, and failed to record one of three shows, and they sell this as a feature? This is a consumer goods company? They "know about it" and they can't tell me when they'll fix it? They already took my money? Their response? They said "We'll credit you 1 week on your next billing cycle." Next billing cycle? I'm one day in, and it's the worst experience imaginable, and they are so thick, they expect ME to stick around for a second month?
The best service is PlayStation vue. Unlimited DVR is held for a month. Now that they are going away I'm looking for a replacement. What's the best choice?
Same. Sadly my friend, it's RUclips TV.
Roku is a great replacement!
HAHAHAHAHA
Can I set a program to record that going to air, say a week or two from now? It would be so good to know! Thx in advance! In our area PBS North Carolina IS on RUclips TV! We get a booklet of the coming month's programs published, and it would be awesome to set something to record that will be aired a week or two from now!
Yes just add to Library and it will record once the program airs
When I pause my live tv show it starts on its own after a few minutes. Is this normal or is there a setting I can adjust. I don’t really want to record the show just pause it for a while.
I had heard that YT took so much backlash over this, that they made most stuff available from DVR and not on-demand. Is that not the case?
@@ReviewsOrg I use on demand when I miss a show or program on demand. So I have used it before.

how do you delete episodes?
I recorded several daily shows for a week for. The Platinum Jubilee by adding them to my library. After a week , I removed the show from my library and got the message that it would stop recording future shows but recordings would be available until expired. The next day all recordings were gone (not in new recordings or shows). The message is incorrect, youtubetv will delete recordings if removed from library. Recordings are supposed to be available for nine months.
Hello,
I'd Like To Know Why When You Pick A Show With The (Plus Button) It Records All Of Them.

So then why does RUclips TV not permit you to record a specific episode of let's say "The Simpsons" ????
You wind up recording all the episodes whether you want them or not.
Ikr lol it's like "set series recording⏩all new and repeats" is the default 🤣😂😂
Can you tell YTTV to record only "first run" episodes? My Library is filling up with 10 seasons of "Gold Rush" I watched already.
I want to know how you can add minutes to a future recording like a football game which frequently goes long. This happened the very first time I recorded a football game.
Richard Bailhe YTTV does this automatically. Sometimes though you do have to come back to the recording after the show has ended.
I AM DOING A TRIAL RUN. BUT HATE THE COMMERCIALS
Is there a way to record live TV?
Same thing happened to me... Would love an answer
How can I delete something I’ve already watched from my library
My RUclipstv lost or stopped my channels. It switched to Detroit Michigan, I live in Ohio. Why did this happen?
Will a CW recording on RUclips TV be DVR versions with FF ability or is it VOD version?
Some series have VOD versions (of some or all episodes) that you can watch withOUT having to first checkmark/plus sign the series (or without having to set it up for recording). However, once you do checkmark a series it will record each episode once it airs live than those episodes specifically will be DVR versions (instead of VOD versions). That's what I've found so far.
Good review. Which streaming service is the best for fast forwarding a DVR show?
Honestly, each has its limitations. Our favorite DVR overall is RUclips TV's DVR.
Some of them make it so you can't fast forward, or so you can't record specific channels. We have a vid launching next Wednesday that will address this more.
Where did you get that wood slat wall material....?!?!?
Looks great
RUclips TV DVR sucks.
How can you delete episodes of a show on dvr?
I've been using RUclips TV since December and I love this feature...with one exception. Playing a recording from CBS is a VOD, which means I can't fast forward through commercials. All other channels that I've used allow fast forwarding through commercials.
Glad to hear it’s only affecting CBS for you. :)
CBS wants you to subscribe to their offering and that's why they do this.
They do revert to regular DVR recordings after 4 or 5 weeks I think.
Too bad they don't let you remove already viewed episodes, record new episodes only, or record single episodes. Their slogan should be "A DVR that you cannot control," or "We control your DVR just to annoy you."
@@ReviewsOrg That means its a CBS limitation, not a YTTV limitation since YTTV allows FF/RW on most content.
RUclips tv is a blessing in disguise. I can watch it at the doctors office or on my dinner break at work. Or even some family gathering after dinner.
I watch a lot of CBS shows and although they give you they "option" of watching the DVR version, when you click, it says "unavailable."
Why can’t I download movies from VOD or how do I download movies to watch them offline I need help quick
How can I remove individual recordings not the entire series on the DVR?
The easiest way to do this is to log in to you tube tv on your tablet or computer and go to your library. You can then mark individual episodes as watched.
I am confused. RUclips TV gives you the option to watch the DVR from the recording or the VOD on the network...you simply select it from "choose a recording"
How do you "choose a recording vs it palying VOD version of what you picked from the guide to DVR
With You Tube TV, can i watch a show from the beginning after I have started recording it but before it's finished recording?
Yes
I have movies saved to watch later and then found out they had like 9 commercials yellow bars each? I just unchecked them. Who wants to pay $50 a month and spend 2-3 mins to watch commercials every 10-15 mins?
This isn’t accurate. You can choose to watch your DVR version, or the on demand version. The DVR version allows you to skip commercials, regardless of the content’s existence in the On Demand library.
will RUclips TV work fine with the lowest level of Xfinity internet (Performance Starter) which is only 25 Mbps?
I would think it would work just fine.
@Kolton Turner Instablaster ;)
@Apollo Eli i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Apollo Eli It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out !
@Kolton Turner no problem =)
Pretty sure that’s not how they manage their cloud storage of your saved shows.
I am ok paying extra$5/mo for personal recording for say 100hours of recording, or have it recorded on my local computer. But I hate when a show is in the on-demand area and therefore I am forced to watch commercials. I hope RUclips/Google is getting this feedback from more subscribers and that they are listening
Why can’t I download movies from VOD or how do I download movies to watch them offline I need help quick
the youtube DVR is HORRIBLE so far for me.
I'm looking forward to Sept. 29th when I can cut the cable cord. I already bought the smart tv.
I cut the cord and went with RUclips TV. If you don't know this by now, it comes with a shit load of commercials.
I know I’m late to the party, but RUclips Tv have the best DVR I ever used, and I used to have Tivo.
Stopped at 1:49 when you started screwing around with toys. I need to know how the DVR operates without messing around.
Why can’t I download movies from VOD or how do I download movies to watch them offline I need help quick
@@griffinbjornstad3517 I don't think offline viewing is supported. The dvr recordings stay online as far as I know.
I’m thinking about switching to RUclips Tv. I want to know if you start a live show late, would there be a way to restart that show?
Good question. We'll have to get back to you on that.
Yes, they give you the option to watch live or start from beginning.
The DVR is a mess. Can't watch a show and delete it from my menu. Can't figure out what I watched or didn't. Total garbage in my mind.
reviews.org exactly. So what’s the solution to this?
@@CrimsonTideGuy You mean they are like all big company's like Comcast and they get your money and dont use LUBE?
Thanks for chiming in.
@@ReviewsOrg Totally agree. I used to wonder where my recordings went.
Not sure you’re actually downloading anything more than a shortcut to the movie server, seems like a big waist of data storage
When you FF with RUclips DVR do you see images so you know when to stop or do they just give you a timer & you have to guess? Thx!
Yep, it shows a thumbnail. Great for skipping commercials.
i don't get it.
How can I delete a recoding in you tube Tv after I watched it?
Sucks
I was seeking advice not entertainment. You provided neither
Why can’t I download movies from VOD or how do I download movies to watch them offline I need help quick
Not only do I hate it, I think it's false advertising.
thats why im here i just watched the ad youtube gave me and heard "unlimited dvr" and i said hell no thats just streaming?
Hulu, direct stream offer up to nine months unlimited too. Sounds to me like youtube TV is no better than direct stream. All this info and it makes the extra for Hulu worth it.
I was able to fast forward through the commercials of the programs that put in my library. This is not enough detail on how it exactly works. I need more technical info. This is an incomplete analysis!!!
Have no problems skipping commercials
RUclips’s great it’s directv now that sucks. Can’t even pause live tv with it.
So there is no way to record live tv?
It Sucks ! I Have No Control Over My Recordings I Guess it’s back to cable !
@@TonyPadgett We'll get on it :)
We've also had users report that the POP channel forces the VOD version instead of DVR.
Reviews.org Okay, but then that is only a few channels that force you to use VOD rather than the DVR function. The video you created seems to imply it’s the other way around.
Holy shit it's Craig from the Legendarium!
Can't go to next episode on shows recorded in my library.
