The 80's weren't defined 24 7 they were defined in snippets of realizations that were created in the environment you were in at the moment you perceived a song that was playing in the background or in your minds ear.
The guy was a phenom at this point. Audience is lifeless...no one is even moving. When I first heard and bought this first album I was blown away....and then I found out how young he was.
The thing with The Tube was that it was a live, early evening (5.30-7.00pm), eclectic music program that broadcast on the UKs 4th channel (C4); it was a show that favoured established/named artists like Paul Young and The Eurythmics rather than young artists who were being bankrolled by their labels (ie Charlie Sexton). To my fledgling eyes and ears the show was just too safe and it probably did CS any favours. Interestingly, the end of the clip shows the broadcast moving to Alexei Sayle interviewing Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx (what followed was an interview about their Theater of Pain album and a Hamer Blitz bass giveaway).
(kids in the audience are a bit stunned, not knowing what to make of Charlie) Not even old enough to vote at this point and rockin' across the pond. Looking like Peter Murphy's bastard son, vocally similar to Ocasek and Bowie, and his guitar playing is phenomenal. Stinging tones and odd shapes. It's a shame he didn't continue down that path as it's still unexplored...
2021 seguimos con nostalgia y alegría a la vez al saber del gran Charlie sexton 36años después y su fenomenal hit "Beat's so lonely" saludos a todos desde Puerto Vallarta México 🇲🇽 😉 🏄 🏖️ 🍻

Graduated high school, went to UT Austin and hoped to bump into this guy❤

That neck tie, an Ode to Ducky, for sure.
If this Band shows up at Coachella 2024 I wouldn't be surprised...
Edward Scissorhands after being completed... I saw him live in the mid '80s play this song; he looked and sounded exactly like in this video.
The memories are flooding in...
