Hi Dori,
I'd like to thank you for helping me on the reading section of the IELTS. I got an 8, and pretty much favorable score on each part. It was actually more than what I expected. I highly recommend the skimming and scanning than going to the questions right away. As a matter of fact, I reached the questions for the third passage when they called out the last 20 minutes of the reading part. Thanks once again.

+Sudha P Online tests need a lot of practice. The texts are not going to be as difficult or long as in IELTS most probably. Start straight from the questions and follow the order of the text to find the answer. You can focus on key words in the question to find your answer without underlining. Good luck!

All the examples you see in the videos are part of a project I am currently working on; they are not part of completed tests. I am sure there are some sample tests online for free. If you 've already done them, then maybe you should consider buying a practice tests book or e-book. Good luck with your exam!

there! It really depends on your own personal needs. Some books work well for
some people while for others don't work at all. Usually books published by Cambridge are a safe
choice.According to your needs check out this link that offers

Now as far as reading and listening, the following tips may help you improve:
Let's
start off with Reading.
1.) I suggest a lot of practice with timing.
Timing is the most difficult thing in Reading
because it is not enough. So, you have to get used to doing everything quickly
and correct. Do practice tests and time yourself. In this way you will know
where you stand and where you need to get better.
2.) Read a lot in English. In this way you will
get used to reading quickly in another language rather than your own and you
will get better without even realizing it. You should start off by reading
articles online related on subjects you love and find interesting.
3.) Try to understand the logic and what you need
to do in each separate task of Reading.
In this way you will be familiar with everything and you will not waste time
during your actual practice.
4.) Do not read everything. You will waste
valuable time. Train yourself to distinguish the gist of each paragraph along
with important specific information.
5.) Always read the instructions carefully and
Underline key-words in the tasks.
6.) Be careful of paraphrasing. Train yourself
so as to recognize same meanings that use different phrasing, different words that
is.
Listening
1.) ALWAYS check out the
word limit in the instructions 2.) Underline key-words before the
Listening starts, esp. words that cannot be paraphrased 3.) Try to predict what
is missing in each gap before the recording starts (a number? a noun? a date?
etc.) 4.) Try to keep up with the recording as much as you can. Do not insist
on questions you missed. 5.) Be careful with paraphrasing: the questions will
not be phrased in your paper in the same way you will hear them 6.) If it is
multiple choice, read the instructions because you may have to choose two
instead of one answer. 7.) The questions of multiple choice will follow the
order of the recording but the options may not 8.) Correct spelling is
absolutely vital 9.) Always write down the exact words you hear: do not
practice paraphrasing yourself in listening, just try to recognise it. 10.) You
are going to hear everything only ONCE, so be focused 11.) Usually in all tasks
the numbered questions follow the order of the listening. But, don't get
confused with diagram labelling tasks and similar ones with the letters. (eg. A
- G). The recording always follows the order of the numbered questions (eg. 1 -
10) not the order of the letters in the picture. This is all I can think of
right now. They usually talk clearly and slowly. Just be careful of
paraphrasing.
Well, these are some basic tips I can give you
generally in all these four sections. As you can see this info is too general,
but I hope I helped you. Bear in mind that no matter how much you practice and
no matter how many tips you follow, the most important thing along with your
practice is to try and learn the language a little bit better as a whole and
work on your weaknesses.

Summary of Video:
Skimming: (Get an overall general idea of text)
1. Read Titles (first information about the text)
2. Read first paragraph very fast ( what is it all about?)
3. Read & underline first 2 lines of each paragraph ( What the paragraph is going to be about, summary)
4. Subheading and subtitles if they exist, underline them.
5. Read & underline last 2 lines of each pargraph. (What is the opinion of xyz, usually opinions are in concluding lines of each para)
6. Read very quickly last paragraph not word to word by rapidly. (Opinion, conclusions)
7. Underline Uncommon words e.g scientific terms, capital words, number dates, percentages, the most, the least etc
8. Underline repetitive words
Scanning ( after skimming is done, when you return to text, when you know what you are looking for, searching for specifics)
1. keep in mind, what are you looking for
2. what of information you are looking for ( number, percentage, An opinion, look in last lines, locate in underlines)
3. When you get it, read carefully to justify / verify your answer

Dori ur videos are really helpful!My exams are at the end of June!Yesterday i invented a really good technique for the reading part and i had fantastic results!!!First i read the questions and then i started to read the text and at the same time i was answering the questions!I mean that i didn't read the whole passage but line by line i was reading it and i was answering the same moment!As u had told us the questions are in order the most times relative to the text!I took 8 to 9!Anyway i think that u understand what i mean!Hopefully it will be helpful and u will flourish this idea with more useful details!xxt
Hey there!!! Thank you for sharing! I am so glad that you found your personal technique that works best for you. This is the last step in Reading, I am sure you will do great! Just be careful of two things: 1.) Always pay attention to time. Do not get carried away while you read the text and try to find the answer and 2.) This is important. Be careful with tasks like: a.) diagram labelling b.) sentence completion c.) flow-chart completion. Keep in mind that in these tasks the questions do NOT necessarily appear in the same order as the information will be found in the passage. Remember that and you will do great!!!
