Solent Ships is operated from Town Quay, the Old Town quarter of Southampton, where the Mayflower departed 400 years ago.
Utilising various cameras our small crew are dedicated in providing a window onto our historic waterfront in the Solent region. The ‘Captain’ of our crew is a licenced drone pilot and day skipper, with an added passion for photography.
This channel has a large library of drone footage, documenting (with commentary) the various vessels that sail by one of the busiest Ports in the UK. At Solent Ships, you can also access 24 hour live streaming video of the day-to-day movements of all shapes and sizes of marine traffic, an ever-changing view that is enjoyed by cruise ship enthusiasts and water watchers worldwide.

Strange place to have the check in desk close to the park up lanes. An accident waiting to happen
The meteor missed but the truck didn't. Seriously, what a shock for the three workers inside, pleased to hear they are ok. It's good to see so many folk rush to help
After seeing that, it is clear that Red Funnel need to think about which lane they ask an Artic to pull into. Given the large number of HGVs that pass through there, you would expect a bit more awareness of the space needed for turning.
Good that there were no "Life Changing" injuries.
How heart warming to see all the people, staff and members of the public dashing to help. Restores your faith in humanity.

Good to see so many rush to help and glad the 3 staff inside were OK, even if one was to hospital as a precaution.
They asked the driver to make a very tight right hand turn . He should have been allowed straight on. Hopefully all injuries will heal quickly.

Nice to South Today this evening was basically the Solent Ship show!
I bet the initials for the next company will be S.W.I.F.K, should have been Swing Wide It'sa Friggin Trailer, but you can guess what the K stands for!! lol, glad no-one seriously injured though, and hope all staff make a proper and safe recovery.
I never knew the building completely fell down ! Not the start to your holiday the red car wants who gets damaged by the building hope the check in desk steward wasn't hurt when the roof fell in !

Good to see there was a fast response from people to help those in the kiosk at the time, and glad that the injured lady only had minor injuries. One question i do have is whether the webcams will be back on, as it appears they are all offline.

I am glad that the staff is allright. I watched it live yesterday.
There is a web cam in olden we should be able to see Iona docked. The people in the cafe on the port play music loud and wave their flags everyone sings . You will get a good view from port side all along the prom deck

I've driven similar trailers, where the trailer wheels are too far forward from the rear of the trailer. Particularly when stood in the offside lane at traffic lights waiting to turn right. On turning the rear of the trailer goes right in the nearside lane. Luckily I never came to grief but only by keeping a keen eye on the cars on my nearside.
I would always take both lanes, not just to annoy car drivers, which they thought I was doing, but to keep them out of the way.
Seen the accident hope their doing ok my prays are with them

Guy takes a photo at 3.15 by the red car in C11. Was thinking the same thing, it's great people are more concerned for those inside then spotted him taking a photo. I can't moan too much cause I know our brains do it to be like "You won't believe me so I have the photo proof"
I've made houses of cards which were sturdier than that.

Later close up views from the Box/Boat Show cam clearly show the 'Armco' barrier (painted in black/yellow diagonal stripes) protecting the kiosk. The barrier is no higher than the wheels of a truck. A trailer, even a caravan, does not immediately follow the path of the tractor. This is particularly true when the trailer has multiple axles because one or two axles are 'scrubbing' sideways. When the vehicle is turning right the overhang behind the axle is moving to the left. Ideally, every vehicle manoeuvring in a confined space should have an observer (banksman?); maybe Red Funnel will be required to provide qualified and insured 'observers' in the future?
Disclaimer: I have never had an HGV licence and the largest vehicle I have driven in a confined space was a 10.3m/10.6m, single rear axle Leyland National Bus. On one occasion I reversed it through two ninety degree turns to the bulk diesel tank but found it impossible to drive out forwards! The majority of HGV drivers, especially the RF 'shunters' demonstrate exceptional skills when manoeuvring forty plus foot trailers.
Red coats came from everywhere and the fastest Redcoats known to man.

I seen this when it happened on ferry cam and it’s exactly what I said as it turns the back corner of the trailer catches the roof of the kiosk and drags it slightly side ways then It collapses forward it was an accident waiting to happen the kiosks should have been further back towards the entrance to allow for trucks red funnel clearly haven’t used their brains on this one who puts a kiosk there where they know trucks need the space to turn this was clearly designed with cars only in mind
Red Funnel don't use their brains on much it seems, given the chaos that is the entrance and exit from the terminal.

I think the truck tried to avoid the Truckee behind him and the blue van but forgot about the tail swing
I dont think it was the deivers fault, he basically coudnt really moved anywhere beacuse of where the cars were, i dont really think its to blame on anyone except from the architects
I agree it’s the fact red funnel haven’t accounted for the fact lorries are longer these days because they take more stuff in one trip to save on trips to cut costs and save the environment so they are longer and sometimes taller a few other comments are basically blaming the driver for rushing when his path wasn’t clear but where he was going to park was clear it’s just the kiosk is in a silly place when they expect lorries to turn and drive and park down the side opposite if they are saying that’s where lorries are to park then at least give them a good turning Circle ⭕️ cannot expect a vehicle 0f that size to be able to turn and have a kiosk in the same place it was always an accident waiting to happen the other saying it’s the drivers fault are clearly stupid making it out like he’s done it on purpose because he wouldn’t wait until he could move but he could move he had finished at the kiosk also who makes a kiosk that flimsy when it a no brainer it could be hit by large vehicles

Driver probably did get out, it’s highly unlikely they made a run for it. Not like they could get far if they did. Besides this really doesn’t look like the drivers fault.

yes three check-in staff. He updates their condition in the video.... Must have been incredibly frightening for that to come crashing down around you.

Ruke 101 of trucking taught in the early stages of getting a C-Class licence is know your vehicle length, and any potential dangers like tail swing into traffic. 100% not any companies fault unless they hired an under qualified driver, or an unlicenced driver. so the blame lies 100% on the driver for this, as it wasn't brake failure, it wasn't a mechanical issue, it didn't grow legs and run towards the kiosk before the driver seen or heard. the way to avoid it is to pull a couple of feet over when pulling off from the kiosk, and then turning a bit more, then drive straight a few feet, then turn more when you know you are clear to turn safely.

Bit of a nutter telling the driver to park in the bay that's so close to the kiosk and the site is so unsuitable for the trucks anyway. This is the problems we get when LGV drivers are ordered about by people who've never driven anything bigger than a transit van!
