True. Shirley Jones went on record to say that the first Chris was a little devil and they got rid of him. Susan Dey said he went on to other things.......then she nervously started talking with the paper dolls.
Thoroughly enjoyed this clip! Best part? Back in the day when there was NO politics infused in every conversation. Just pure fun and entertainment. They both put a smile on my face. Thanks for posting.
For someone who had hardly acted prior to her first big TV job, she certainly was a natural with great instincts. The Partridge Family clip alone shows that. “I think it’s The Rolling Stones…” I never saw that show, but was lucky enough be cast as a waiter who takes her breakfast order in an episode of LA Law. When I first arrived on the set, Susan approached me and asked if she could get me a cup of coffee. She was my waiter! I was stunned by her kindness and sensitivity. Made me feel welcome from the very first moment.
Susan has something very rare in Hollywood: Class , dignity, humility . Never over -dresses, always a lady . she nailed the role of Laurie back in the day, at 18 yrs old...With no training whatsoever. Opposite talent like Cassidy and Shirley Jones . She more than held her own . Comedy is hard to do.
Wow, Susan is incredibly gracious. When Rosie asked her about the two Chrises, she simply said that Jeremy went on to other things. She did not allude to his bad behaviour. She is very professional! I can totally understand Rosie's "fan girling" her. "The Partridge Family" was iconic!
I have to intercede a bit for Jeremy Gelbwaks. I read that he had the worst helicopter parents a kid could have, and that they kept telling him how much better he was than the other young people in the cast, and to demand more time on camera. My God, if they felt that way about it, why didn't they have the guts to demand that themselves? When someone is that young, they believe what is told to them. Jeremy went on to graduate from college, and become very successful in the high tech entrepreneurial sector. This is not uncommon in Hollywood. Rusty Stevens, who played Larry Mondello on Leave It To Beaver, was yanked out of the cast by his parents because they thought he was getting a raw deal, and they moved back East. Rusty never harbored any ill feelings, and returned to join the cast years later in the TV series "Still The Beaver", when they were all adults.
Wow have the times changed... have you seen Rosie lately??? Sad. Susan Dey was always a class act. Liked her a lot as I grew up watching The Partridge Family.
Oh I used to admire Susan so much when I was little. She looked so intelligent and perfect and mesmerizing. The perfect teen. Rosie was star struck when she came out.
Great interview and back when Susan was fun! I know she has moved on, but to those like me who grew up with the Partridge Family, she will always be like a sister. Susan - your pretend brother wishes you well and be happy!

Always loved Susan Day. She comes across as such a lovely lady. I wish she married David as I believe he may still be alive with us if she did. May you rest in peace Darling David Cassidy!🕊🕊🕊💕💕💕💕
Why would you wish she’d married someone who (1) wasn’t attracted to her, (2) didn’t love her that way and (3) never would asked her? Cassidy needed psychological help, not a marriage. The problems he had that led to his alcohol abuse and subsequent health decline could not have been solved by a marriage to any particular person and these problems began in his early childhood.
@@laurelharper1109 I think Glory M is speaking in fantasy terms. We all wish our idols would live happily ever after. No need to tear this poor man down further. We know the story. 😾
I actually did not think much of it when I originally saw it back in the early 70s. I was too young. But looking at it now, I realize what an important part of trivia history it is.
Susan Dey is a classy lady. It's such a shame that David disrespected her in his book and I don't blame her for cutting ties with him. He certainly went down in my estimation. It was very childish and just showed that he had no respect for women and that's possibly why his relationships were not successful. He would have faired better if he had acted like an adult and admitted that he really did love Susan instead of playing with her emotions. Susan Dey rocks.
DC had long standing issues with his father, including Jack's jealousy of his own son. David's career didn't go in the direction he wanted it to, at least not in his younger days, and I think it made him irritable and difficult. Another example of too much too soon and the inability to cope with it all.
David said he was underpaid during the Partridge family and then sued later and ended up with over a million dollars. But, unfortunately, he had alcohol and drug problems and bad friends and ended up broke again. Fortunately, he was able to go back on the road and make a lot of money again. But, he may have been jealous of Susan's success and stability.
I don't think Rosie deliberately was trying to make Susan feel awkward, she was a fan. I always enjoy listening to these actors stories while on the set. I like Rosie wanted to be a Partridge.

I'm surprised Susan Dey was so open talking about the Partridge Family"with Rosie O'Donnell. She generally distanced herself from, and hated, talking about the show after it went off the air.
She held a grudge over a teenage love. Once she had her own success later, she should have gone to the reunion shows. Not showing up just seemed immature. At some point one needs to get over grudges as it only hurts the person holding it. I am sure they would have reconciled if she had gone to a reunion show. She was young, he was young and he had girls throwing themselves at him so of course a healthy, nice looking young guy is going to take advantage of that especially at the height of his fame.
@@Rocky-ry6uwhe should have kept his mouth shut about his relationship with her. It was nobody's business but their's. It was badly done on David's part.

You seem to take it personally. Nevertheless it happened with the cast of The Brady Bunch too. Barry Williams (Greg) not only dated Maureen McCormick (Marsha) but also Florence Henderson. (I even heard that Spanky McFarland of "Our Gang/ The Little Rascals" had a crush on Darla Hood). You have to realize that the cast of The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch were young actors brought together to play siblings to each other but they were not really related so typical teenage crushes came about. However, if David Cassidy married Susan Dey or if Barry Williams married Maureen McCormick, it would not have worked out for them. Marrying because of teen crushes rarely does.
When Danny Bonaduce had a PF reunion on his talk show, she did not make it, but she called and showed her love...I just think certain memories of that time were painful for her as she was seriously in love with the most wanted man in the world right at her fingertips, plus, she has had bouts of depression...But, ironically, she became the most successful of them all...thanks mostly to L'.A. Law...in a weird way, it was her infatuation with Cassidy and her sensitivity which made the show such a special draw--it was real...I have the entire series on dvd,,,when I am not feeling good, I'll put on an episode and it always makes me smile
You and her are not the same or in the same situation. Are you a person who started an acting career at the age of 16? You cannot say that your answer to your own problems is what would work for everyone else. Why is it for you to say that Susan Dey is denying where she came from? She is just going ahead instead of staying in the past.
OMG, I get it. I'm a 27 year old gay guy and have been a huge Partridge Family fan since 5th grade for honestly no reason. Saw it on TV one day and was hooked. I know Susan Dey doesn't give interviews anymore, because she doesn't want to be asked ridiculous/embarrassing questions about her time on the Partridge Family, IE eating disorder, which is old news, which I totally understand. I'd follow her lead, honestly. I assume that Susan being married to a producer and herself being a respected name in Hollywood in 1996, was like OK, I'll do Rosie's show because she's a closeted lesbian and won't ask me stories that bring me back to the worst memories of my life. It was a safe opportunity for Susan to get herself out there. I want more Susan Dey today.
@Velocity2theMax: Since you went there, what is the connection between gay men and female stars? It's sooo campy! I was on some video comments for Joan Crawford and every gay man within shouting distance came on and was totally into the debate about whether Joan was indeed a monster or not. 😂 And that goes for Joan Collins, too!
Why do gays have to flaunt their sexuality...I mean give us a fucking break. Fine, be gay but stop flaunting. They make such a big deal about it..thats Why people make it an issue

I had such a crush on Susan in her partridge family days
Loved her in a Hawaiian Five O episode in 1975.
I thought Susan Dey and David Cassidy were just it!
They were! : )
Susan DEY WAS my partridge !
You can tell Rosie was a big fan they way she knows the songs and the dialogue. I was a huge fan too and always thought Lorie was the prettiest girl.
She fell in love really w David Cassidy but he broke her heart
True
OH Yeh! : Susan had a crush on David. (What teenage girl didn't?) Susan is not a lesbian.
then he wrote about it
David Cassidy had his heart broken by Meredith Baxter so what goes around comes around
@@wrinklies2167who is a lesbian. 😂😂😂
Susan was thanking her lucky stars she didn’t have to hang with Bill Cosby in the green room the following day
Susan is so cute and humble
I had those same paper dolls when I was a little girl.
Susan was great on The Partridge Family TV show !
She was also good on the TV movie Lies and Lullabies, aka Sad Inheritance, in the early 90s as a drug addict whose baby is also addicted.
I want more Susan Dey today.
velocity2themax
velocity2themax Who really cares that your gay? Gay people make everything abour their sexuality. Who cares!!
Man why say your homosexual who cares nobody cares what anyone is anymore
@Velocity2theMax: Since you went there, what is the connection between gay men and female stars? It's sooo campy! I was on some video comments for Joan Crawford and every gay man within shouting distance came on and was totally into the debate about whether Joan was indeed a monster or not. 😂 And that goes for Joan Collins, too!
Why do gays have to flaunt their sexuality...I mean give us a fucking break. Fine, be gay but stop flaunting. They make such a big deal about it..thats Why people make it an issue
Ha! I was always Laurie when we "played the Patridge Family" we wood listen to the albums sing and try to be them! Anyone Elese?
