- Julian Frost (N3JF), your Ham Radio Sensei, traveled back to England over the Christmas holidays and took the opportunity to do a little ham radio operating. Armed with the prerequisites for operating under CEPT rules, he set up a antenna from his dad's 3rd floor flat (apartment) and made contacts around Europe. If you live in an apartment, maybe you can do something similar?

Great reminder that, whatever else you can say about it, radio is and remains MAGIC so of course almost anything you try with it will probably actually WORK. From the moment I listened to my Philmore crystal set as a 5th grader I have never lost the incredible sense of how awesome is radio. It's as if God wanted those of us with an interest in such things to have a toy to play with that will never cease to blow your mind. What a blessing.
Radio is certainly the gift that keeps on giving!
Hi Julian! I hope you had a great Christmas and visit to friends and family in the UK. 73!
I did, thank you! Happy New Year!
Thank you for a great DX demonstration. Amazing how such a small radio can have that kind of performance. 73'
Indeed! There are lots of QRP rigs on the market. For CW, there are radios 1/3 of this size!
Love that first Ham's chair.
Only one ham in the video! ;-) My dad got it for free after the last one broke!
Great video! 👍 Sensei, Sensei forever Sensei! SGI
Thanks, brother!
Ah yes Julian - I thought you had an "English accent" hidden away. I'm another Brit that relocated to the USA (Texas) and yes, I drive to the HRO in Plano for most Ham purchases.
Alright mate! Yeah, moved to the USA in '89, so have been American for more than I've been a Brit, but I definitely enjoy visiting family and friends back there. 73. Happy New Year!
@@HamRadioOutlet "Alrighte Mate!" HAHAHA. Been here over 2 decades myself. Enjoying the DX too. 73. K9BJR.
Hey Sensei Julian, good to see you again. I am wondering if you still in England right now. I am planning to go and play some portable Radio tomorrow. May be I be able to catch up with you on the Air...? A very Happy New Year to you and yours. And tnx for all the great Content you share with us. 73 de Uncle Guenter 💯🙋♂
Unfortunately no. I came back to the USA before New Year's. Would have been good to catch up. Happy New Year to you and thanks for your continued participation in ham radio and the support of our social media platforms!
@@HamRadioOutlet You welcome Julian, well than I need to send more Prayers to the God of Propagations to make the RF Trip into SoCali really soon.
Happy Weekend & 73 💯🙋♂
Happy New Year , From Pa. . 73
Happy New Year!
That was a fun video!
Thanks! I don't get many European stations from my home QTH due to antenna restrictions, so was fun getting them from England!
Did you have time to go portable whilst in Folkestone, plenty of salt water close by.
My goal was to go to the concrete "sound mirror" close by, but the weather during my stay was terrible... except for the first day there and the day of my departure!
Very nice video and thanks for sharing
I really like wire antennas... my permanent antenna is 21 meters +/- of steel wire and AC-40 tuner from Yaesu
CR7BDO / 73
That's a good wire antenna! I had 84ft of wire going to a tree, until the homeowners' association told me to take it down!
@@HamRadioOutlet Ohhhh!! 😕
Steel wire is stealthy ... mine is 0.8mm and holds well 100w ... give it a try / 73
@@joseneves2822 Mine was stealthy too. The local busybody saw me putting it up, so now the HOA is looking out for it. It's a long story, but I've had a vertical antenna up, with permission from the HOA, for 16 years. Then we got a new Board and they couldn't find any documentation in their records that showed I had permission, so I was told to take it down. Now, as of last week, I've once again been given permission for a vertical antenna...
@@HamRadioOutlet ok, ok ... i'm glad to know you're allowed to install a vertical antenna
this time it is important to keep a copy of the permission document
good dx / 73
@@joseneves2822 No kidding!
Nice
Thanks!
I wonder if this antenna would compare to a loop type antenna? wonder how much power this end feed would handle 100W.
The wire PacTenna handles 100W SSB. Loops are good but require more space (or a balcony) so you can rotate them as they are directional.
Very interesting…thank you…John..G4EIJ
Thanks!
Are you still in uk 🇬🇧
I returned to the US just before New Year's.
Did you climb up the 24awg wire through the window since the door was locked😅
Good idea! Why didn't I think of that! LOL
Not from ,, Romania,, yet
I didn't hear Romanian stations at that time. 😞
I'm sorry to heart that,
This year i want to make a small base of Radio communication ,to be able to use words and not only in writing
Nice to meet You ,Merry Christmas and a happy ,and healthy New Year !!!
You will be better using G/
CEPT rules say I have to use "M/"
You're gonna throw a perfectly good antenna out the window? What a waste.
Huh? Not sure what video you watched!
