The mastodon is like the older king. Weak in some parts but better in others like ice or add-ons. It might not be the king king but it'll come in a save the day when the actual king needs help
Generic addons have always been a problem in my opinion. They were made for the original trucks but even then, it looked disproportionate on some of them. I kind of wish they would take notes from MudRunner, such as unique addons based on their origin. It feels so weird driving a Russian truck that has a USA style fuel tanker. It feels like I'm playing a modded version of SnowRunner, but it's just the base game. Anyway, this is a good video demonstration of how capable this truck is right now. Keep up the good work SD1ONE.
Thanks for the review. It's useful as usual. Noticed 612 getting more damage than 605. My opinion about 612's struggle with front overhang : in the description of the dls devs mentioned 612 got better front hang. So it means his struggle is mistake and devs will fix it. But in other hand 612's "problems" might be a nerf coz he got low saddle and other addons.

Great review thanks! I also agree the mudrunner version was better looking and proportioned. The generic add ons don't suit this one. Also they really do need to get the mudrunner engine noise on the snowrunner version, it is much better!
To be fair, The 605r is mutant truck, It's artifically enhanced by devs.. This truck has has more real parameters compared to 605r...That's why it offroading capabilities are less compared to 605r but TBH..It's not same truck as it was in MR or ST, In reality it has different wheels which are little wider than the SR truck...MR and ST got it right.
special advanced gearbox is weird on the new truck; it keeps wanting to shift to 2nd gear and downshifting to 1st just after that. Also the diff lock is kinda not working, it seems that all wheels dont get the same horsepower (they twitch in harder terrain and when going uphill with a heavy load)
They got so lazy with the copy/paste add-ons. I like picking add ons that look like they’re supposed to be on that specific truck. In mudrunner it wasn’t an issue, but in snowrunner, they have so many add ons and accessories that shouldn’t be on certain vehicles. Quantity over quality.
You won't see hidden upgrades in maps with it being a paid dlc. Not everyone will have it. If any are added, they just put them out without needing to find them

It's better than other paid dlc for sure but if you're new to game... it's better to tey different trucks first as this will make game too easy for you

I bought Snowrunner, in hopes i would see the true king, MZKT-79221 one day. Bringing back the Mastodon from Mudrunner, is a sign Saber is turning towards Russian military trucks and i hope they put the MZKT-79221 with a long log add-on some day soon. That thing can change the whole game if it enters the battlefield.
As far as I know, this MAZ was originally a Soviet army tractor. Machine exclusively for the army. It was needed to transport tanks and other military equipment. Later civilian versions appeared.
I actually dare say I think the 605R keeps its title. The Mastodon has moer addons and thus versatility, but its huge size, front overhang and massive turn radius take away many points from me personally. I like my vehicles maneuverable, and the Mastodon can't bob and weave, so to speak. Silver medal for sure, but the King's still a King.
I dunno, I've treated it as an overgrown scout, wiggling in places I might get stuck and I've never really had to recover it. It just needs some touch up, like seriously, it needs a High gear worth a damn.

The 605 might have been free, but you had a tonne of work to do to unlock it in the first place. At least with the 612, it's available instantly after a £3 purchase.
That's the thing, such truck shouldn't be as easily available...It should be a reward otherwise it's kind of pay to win...but again Who am I to say how to play this game...every player is different and has thier different play style.
I was doing co op and random join with the mastodon I was driving through the woods all I heard was a loud noise coming behind me it was the big turbocharger on the mastodon coming towards me I was speechless.
TBH...I usually don't use that precise gearbox because I don't think its worth the extra fuel consumption but In this case the high gear is broken in other 2 gearboxes so precise one is better choice if you want full power.

A must have truck if you ask me, it helped me in my first days of snowrunner, plus it would look even cooler if they devs will devide the look of addons between trucks example mastondon having its old addond but im putting my faith on the modders to bring us old addons RNG did made the log Carrier for mastodon buti want to see all vehicles in theit respective addon looks
I havent had a single problem with loads. Not sure how you got stuck in the mud with that heavy trailer. Ive been charging across all maps with it. Some places i cant go because its really fat but plenty of paths around. Also you forgot its huge perk of low saddle. You can use the blue sideboard trailer. As a super heavy.
It more capable than like 99% of trucks in game but 605R just beats it in harsh offroad....still In regular playthough difference won't be noticiable like you mentioned....BTW I mentioned the low sadle.
I got my inspiration to play this game from watching mudrunner videos but i will say graphics trump it on snowrunner and that is a visual you can't ignore. Although its very true mudrunner got the physics of all the teucks and how they should perform and move much better still doen to tiny details maybe in future these smart techs can bring that to the table?
I've been eagerly waiting for your vid! I noticed the high gear being slow as well and used the testing ground with info showing speed using all transmissions. High gear in both default and advanced special was slower than 1st gear auto in my tests. The advanced special gearbox the high gear is limited to around 9kph, slower than 1st gear at 14kph. The default gearbox is similar with high gear limited to 7kph and 1st around 9kph. The finetune gearbox works good with high gear hitting about 20kph. I looked in the files to see the values: the default has HighGear AngVel="0.8" vs the normal advanced special trans having "3.0" the special has HighGear AngVel="1" vs the normal advanced special trans having "3.0" the finetune has HighGear AngVel="5.0" vs the normal advanced special trans having "5.0" I know its a different transmission with different gear ratios in auto but it doesn't make sense to me to have high gear so slow on the 2 gearboxes but still have it like every other truck in game having a good medium speed with the Fine Tune variant. High is useless in the other 2 gearboxes to me. I've personally changed the High gear values to match the normal advanced special so they are usable. I've also posted a tech feedback on the focus forums to ask if that was intended by devs or an error. It's a great truck addition having the different capabilities vs the 605R. Thanks for the video comparisons always!
Good observations... something definitely looks wrong here...maybe they'll fix it later...they have done this in past DLC as well after people feedback they did add things
I am new to Snowrunner (Played the old games) and I use the Mastodon ALOT, and it is a cheat code of a truck but I still feel the 605R is just better because of the size difference. In some situations the 612H is a bit too big to do the job. Both are amazing tho...
Been using the Mastodon in Amur since it dropped. I knew right away that comparing it to the 605R wouldn't be a contest because of the lower ground clearance and the big ass nose getting in the way. As pointed out the 605R is not a normal truck. It's been modded by the devs beyond capacity to be a freak of mechanical engineering. Comparing the Mastodon to the Derry Special or the Kolobs - it definitely fits better among them.
@@Luk_32 It depends on the region and the task. If it's Amur or Kola then I am using the 605 for most things over the 612. For other regions the 612 is a better choice since it has more addons.
yes... Almost every vehicle in MR appeared in spintires at one point... spintires was in beta phase for years they kept removing and adding vehicles...sad that it's gone.
In my opinion, both are the Kings of SnowRunner in their own rights. The Zikz 605R is a powerful tractor with a strudy rear suspension allowing it to keep it's saddle height at all time, it also has a better turn radius and better roof rack The Zikz 612H has a large fuel tank, lots of addons, bed+rear crane+ trailer, can be maxed out at level 1 (you get top engine and snorkel instantly, almost everything apart for winch and some addons are instant unlock) and has a low saddle. So are they comparable? Yes and no. The 605R is more of a tractor as where the 612H is more of a carrier and they both excel at that
They really need to make it less fragile, too. I've completely shattered the suspension from full health just bumping into a tree with a wheel in reverse. If I did that in the Tayga, it'd take maybe 5 points of damage, not 200+
Wow I thought that Mastodon will beat Snowrunner King with ease, but it not happened! Strange to see this monster losing to truck from lower class (D type from Mudrunner). But still, it looks amazing and I am going to buy it right before Season 10. Also SD1ONE, why complaining about interior? It's very small and have bad view, but remember that Mastodon is military truck where connection with two teams/cabins takes place in real time. Don't blame the design, I love it, it much different than any other truck in game
its not simple D class anymore...its mutated by devs...artifically enhanced tires and stuff...regarding interior I did mention that its not a complain but warning..basically some people prefer interor view so they should know about this before buying
@@SD1ONE Yup, the old clasess are not existing anymore, changed into heavy duty, heavy, offroad, etc. But new ones are just wrong in couple cases - just look, the "road" mostly Western Stars from DLC are treated by game exacly like Mastodon or big Cats. That's so weird

And also it doesnt even realy look like the same truck from spintires and mudrunner, yes it is the same truck you can see it but they changed it so much. i'll probably just stay with the free mod with better looks, stronger truck and very nice sounds and also better addons (Zikz DLC Pack)
I got it thinking will this replace 605r aka snowrunner on easy mode and i found i kept bottoming out on random things i was like this thing has 61 inch tires but i am putting the nose into the ground on everything its convenient to have alot more fuel capacity but i also like just high gearing everything and with low you do move just very slowly
High gear in the advanced special transmission seems borked and the truck feels like it's on the verge of stalling in H gear. Hopefully that gets fixed. Other than that I'm enjoying the truck and I like that I can use saddle low with this beast.
I feel like they made the truck small in this game. In Mudrunner you put the two side to side, and you can see the size differience, but in this game they look the same size.
Mastodon in real life is super claustrophobically cramped so this why cabin looks so small. It's a heavy military truck in which comfort doesn't matter. Cabin was also divided into two small ones because usually the ballistick rockets are placed between them
Tbh I like the Mastodon most if only because it feels more balanced with its limitations so I don’t feel like I’m cheating using it, the 605R is just so overpowered with almost no drawbacks
I am surprised by the SnowRunner Community. When Ambitious Mod Developers i.e. vasiab44 and yansors gave us great MAZ-543 vehicles, there was silence among the players and no one was happy that the "King of MudRunner" appeared. ''shit-543'' from SABER comes out and everyone is euphoric. How is this series supposed to go in the right direction, if the Creators do not want to refine the vehicle and the Community is excited, because it is from SABER ... Where are the legendary accessories such as the Crane KS-6571, Fire Truck AA-60, semi-trailer CHMZAP-9990 or KET-T tug? It's probably too much for SABER!
I googled this names and wow, they are amazing! The fire truck looks much better than vanilla one and this crane is a pure masterpiece. Developers should add it as super-heavy crane for longest and heaviest trucks like Zikz 612H, Azov 73210 and Paystar 5600TS

No medium logs suck, it could have closed that hated gap for me. In general it’s sad that modders needs to fix the work of devs. But i don’t touch any mods. So I’ll use it only on icy maps yet
Mastodon is better because you do not need to get it you just buy it and thats it. 605R so tule consuming to get. And I just love the suspension it has. Being a stiff Soviet style suspension makes it just awesome when going up hills.

Actually, the cons that being a paid vehicle can be a pros since it's easier to get than a 605R (it's so much hassle in order to acquiring a 605R, though it's a worth the risk).
I don't think such truck should be allowed to used as starter truck which it'll be now because you will get it directly in garage after buying the DLC... don't even need to buy it in game
yeah old one had more of rumbling sound but Spintires E-7310 had even better sounds as MR version lacks transmission whine or whatever that whine sound is
The 612H would be my Favorite but the front overhang getting stuck it some roots or mud makes me like the 605R just a bit more. Still ana amazingly powerful Truck though
@@SD1ONE you reckon they will buff the mastodon in the near future? it feels really weak compared to other trucks because of the overhang, the narrow tires which i struggle to get grip on medium terrain, the low power-to-weight ratio, and the weird high gear which should be much higher in my opinion. it doesnt feel like it has enough advantages to warrant it as a purchase when the 605R is a thing.

To be fair I don’t mind the 605R being better since it’s part of the game if you get the season passes it would be a bit unfair to have the pay to win option that being said in a new play through it will be a big help in the early game
It's already going P2W... 612H is like 10 times better than other paid DLCs and you'll get it as starter truck when you pay for it....It might not be 605R level but it xan still wipe the floor with other trucks in its competition
Having 3k hours in this game I can tell by looking at this track for 1 second that it is worse than the 605R for insane terrain exploration. Face is overhung AND lower towards the ground. The chained tires are a huge plus though as well as the addons.

It aint as strong as the new young gun in town, but it has the technique (to be able to hold a goddamn crane in the back)
The only thing the 605 is good for is for hauling massive high saddle trailers which is almost never needed

Medium log frame from MudRunner should be there. Also standard russian small crane looks weird on such a big truck.

i have also noticed that the Mastodon struggles on steep uhills. But low gear doesnt help it get moving, just keeping it in auto does for some reason

They feel pretty even with the speed of the 605 edging it out just a bit. But with that bit more speed is a lack of addons.

Also you forgot its huge perk of low saddle. You can use the blue sideboard trailer. As a super heavy.
It more capable than like 99% of trucks in game but 605R just beats it in harsh offroad....still In regular playthough difference won't be noticiable like you mentioned....BTW I mentioned the low sadle.
Finally the rear crane. But I expected it in smaller trucks like Azov 5 or 6 and so that a trailer could be attached.

I got my inspiration to play this game from watching mudrunner videos but i will say graphics trump it on snowrunner and that is a visual you can't ignore. Although its very true mudrunner got the physics of all the teucks and how they should perform and move much better still doen to tiny details maybe in future these smart techs can bring that to the table?

I noticed the high gear being slow as well and used the testing ground with info showing speed using all transmissions. High gear in both default and advanced special was slower than 1st gear auto in my tests.
The advanced special gearbox the high gear is limited to around 9kph, slower than 1st gear at 14kph.
The default gearbox is similar with high gear limited to 7kph and 1st around 9kph.
The finetune gearbox works good with high gear hitting about 20kph.
I looked in the files to see the values:
the default has HighGear AngVel="0.8" vs the normal advanced special trans having "3.0"
the special has HighGear AngVel="1" vs the normal advanced special trans having "3.0"
the finetune has HighGear AngVel="5.0" vs the normal advanced special trans having "5.0"
I know its a different transmission with different gear ratios in auto but it doesn't make sense to me to have high gear so slow on the 2 gearboxes but still have it like every other truck in game having a good medium speed with the Fine Tune variant. High is useless in the other 2 gearboxes to me. I've personally changed the High gear values to match the normal advanced special so they are usable. I've also posted a tech feedback on the focus forums to ask if that was intended by devs or an error.
It's a great truck addition having the different capabilities vs the 605R.

Good observations... something definitely looks wrong here...maybe they'll fix it later...they have done this in past DLC as well after people feedback they did add things
I am new to Snowrunner (Played the old games) and I use the Mastodon ALOT, and it is a cheat code of a truck but I still feel the 605R is just better because of the size difference. In some situations the 612H is a bit too big to do the job. Both are amazing tho...
wonder why we haven't gotten another truck that can carry 4 slots of cargo, everything seems to just be 1-3 slots
Been using the Mastodon in Amur since it dropped. I knew right away that comparing it to the 605R wouldn't be a contest because of the lower ground clearance and the big ass nose getting in the way. As pointed out the 605R is not a normal truck. It's been modded by the devs beyond capacity to be a freak of mechanical engineering. Comparing the Mastodon to the Derry Special or the Kolobs - it definitely fits better among them.

@@Luk_32 It depends on the region and the task. If it's Amur or Kola then I am using the 605 for most things over the 612. For other regions the 612 is a better choice since it has more addons.

Quite a few of these vehicles appear in the older spintires, but I don’t know if that counts for the sake of the videos
yes... Almost every vehicle in MR appeared in spintires at one point... spintires was in beta phase for years they kept removing and adding vehicles...sad that it's gone.
Imo, modder Yansors made much better version of "Mastodon". It has more unique addons and even special trailers.
In my opinion, both are the Kings of SnowRunner in their own rights.
The Zikz 605R is a powerful tractor with a strudy rear suspension allowing it to keep it's saddle height at all time, it also has a better turn radius and better roof rack
The Zikz 612H has a large fuel tank, lots of addons, bed+rear crane+ trailer, can be maxed out at level 1 (you get top engine and snorkel instantly, almost everything apart for winch and some addons are instant unlock) and has a low saddle.
So are they comparable? Yes and no.
The 605R is more of a tractor as where the 612H is more of a carrier and they both excel at that

Not only its wheels are narrower, they are 3 times lighter - 200 kg instead of 600 kg
They really need to make it less fragile, too. I've completely shattered the suspension from full health just bumping into a tree with a wheel in reverse.
If I did that in the Tayga, it'd take maybe 5 points of damage, not 200+

Wow I thought that Mastodon will beat Snowrunner King with ease, but it not happened! Strange to see this monster losing to truck from lower class (D type from Mudrunner). But still, it looks amazing and I am going to buy it right before Season 10. Also SD1ONE, why complaining about interior? It's very small and have bad view, but remember that Mastodon is military truck where connection with two teams/cabins takes place in real time. Don't blame the design, I love it, it much different than any other truck in game
its not simple D class anymore...its mutated by devs...artifically enhanced tires and stuff...regarding interior I did mention that its not a complain but warning..basically some people prefer interor view so they should know about this before buying
@@SD1ONE Yup, the old clasess are not existing anymore, changed into heavy duty, heavy, offroad, etc. But new ones are just wrong in couple cases - just look, the "road" mostly Western Stars from DLC are treated by game exacly like Mastodon or big Cats. That's so weird

And also it doesnt even realy look like the same truck from spintires and mudrunner, yes it is the same truck you can see it but they changed it so much. i'll probably just stay with the free mod with better looks, stronger truck and very nice sounds and also better addons (Zikz DLC Pack)
yeah zikz DLC pack trucks are way better than this...they have that MR feel to them...addons are great...super nice mods
I got it thinking will this replace 605r aka snowrunner on easy mode and i found i kept bottoming out on random things i was like this thing has 61 inch tires but i am putting the nose into the ground on everything its convenient to have alot more fuel capacity but i also like just high gearing everything and with low you do move just very slowly
High gear in the advanced special transmission seems borked and the truck feels like it's on the verge of stalling in H gear. Hopefully that gets fixed. Other than that I'm enjoying the truck and I like that I can use saddle low with this beast.

No... It's significantly bigger than 605R.... Don't know about real life scaling but they do look similar to MR size
Mastodon in real life is super claustrophobically cramped so this why cabin looks so small. It's a heavy military truck in which comfort doesn't matter. Cabin was also divided into two small ones because usually the ballistick rockets are placed between them
Tbh I like the Mastodon most if only because it feels more balanced with its limitations so I don’t feel like I’m cheating using it, the 605R is just so overpowered with almost no drawbacks
I use smaller trucks for a realistic challenge they need to nerf the 605r
I am surprised by the SnowRunner Community. When Ambitious Mod Developers i.e. vasiab44 and yansors gave us great MAZ-543 vehicles, there was silence among the players and no one was happy that the "King of MudRunner" appeared. ''shit-543'' from SABER comes out and everyone is euphoric. How is this series supposed to go in the right direction, if the Creators do not want to refine the vehicle and the Community is excited, because it is from SABER ... Where are the legendary accessories such as the Crane KS-6571, Fire Truck AA-60, semi-trailer CHMZAP-9990 or KET-T tug? It's probably too much for SABER!
it's just mods are not available to all players like console but yes modders always did better job than devs

I googled this names and wow, they are amazing! The fire truck looks much better than vanilla one and this crane is a pure masterpiece. Developers should add it as super-heavy crane for longest and heaviest trucks like Zikz 612H, Azov 73210 and Paystar 5600TS

Mastodon is better because you do not need to get it you just buy it and thats it. 605R so tule consuming to get. And I just love the suspension it has. Being a stiff Soviet style suspension makes it just awesome when going up hills.
I think it is good that the 605R remains the king since 612H would have been a "pay-to-win" DLC which the community would not have liked.

Actually, the cons that being a paid vehicle can be a pros since it's easier to get than a 605R (it's so much hassle in order to acquiring a 605R, though it's a worth the risk).
I don't think such truck should be allowed to used as starter truck which it'll be now because you will get it directly in garage after buying the DLC... don't even need to buy it in game

The 612H would be my Favorite but the front overhang getting stuck it some roots or mud makes me like the 605R just a bit more. Still ana amazingly powerful Truck though

@@SD1ONE you reckon they will buff the mastodon in the near future? it feels really weak compared to other trucks because of the overhang, the narrow tires which i struggle to get grip on medium terrain, the low power-to-weight ratio, and the weird high gear which should be much higher in my opinion. it doesnt feel like it has enough advantages to warrant it as a purchase when the 605R is a thing.

To be fair I don’t mind the 605R being better since it’s part of the game if you get the season passes it would be a bit unfair to have the pay to win option that being said in a new play through it will be a big help in the early game
It's already going P2W... 612H is like 10 times better than other paid DLCs and you'll get it as starter truck when you pay for it....It might not be 605R level but it xan still wipe the floor with other trucks in its competition

Having 3k hours in this game I can tell by looking at this track for 1 second that it is worse than the 605R for insane terrain exploration. Face is overhung AND lower towards the ground.
The chained tires are a huge plus though as well as the addons.
