I don't have to imagine much, this was my morning here in Sweden. Woke up at 05:30, went down to the stables and did some light cleaning. At around 6:30 i went back up to my parents house and got the 1-year old dressed and ready for kindergarten. He sleeps at his great grandparents because his parents work in different town, it's not what we really want but it's just temporary since both of them work with construction equipment so they go where the work is. Then i put the kid in the car and i went to pick up my other niece's three year old and his half brothers. No time wasted on making breakfast since they get fed in town at their day activities. They get both breakfast and lunch during the day... No need to prepare lunch boxes etc.
On the way home i pick up one of my clients, she's a woman with autism who spend her days out here. She's unable to work, so she got handed a activity from the city and wanted something isolated and close to nature, so she's just hanging around out here during the day and i act as her contact person. So unless i have another client booked she can ask me for help or support whenever she feel she need it. I get payed to make sure she get breakfast and lunch, she's not even a kid she's 29 but the state still pay to make sure she can eat everyday, since she doesn't if she's by herself. Not like it really matters, I would gladly serve her food regardless... but i just mention it since it's similar in a sense. So i eat breakfast when she arrives here in the morning, which usually is around 8 or so.
Honestly food just seem like the bare minimum the state can provide, especially for people who are dependent on others to make sure they have food in their bellies.

I asked her if she liked the Cheneys. She said: ‘no, not really but I like that Harris is working with them now.’

I'm going to second this. I've heard a lot of people complaining about it, but mostly people that weren't going to vote for Harris anyway. I don't like the Republicans but any stretch, but I like the sign of good faith and I do think there is a strategy here. You're going to get those middle-aged housewives who have always been Republicans but need an excuse to not support Trump. You're going to get those more liberal working-class white guys who probably supported Trump but are just sick and tired of it by this point and need somebody to tell them it's okay to vote for a Democrat. Like the strategy actually makes sense.
And I like the response Walz gives which is basically "hey, we're just saying they agree with us that we are the better choice. Doesn't mean we support their policies!" I think anyone who doesn't immediately realize that's what it's about, and instead thinks that somehow the Harris campaign adopting horrific neocon policies, is either really dumb or purposely choosing to misrepresent it for their own agenda.

That's the scary part. Trump was an awful president, but then again so was George W. Bush, and he got re-elected. Whether a president does a good job or not has very little to do with their political success. Perception is everything and Americans are some of the most uninformed and misinformed people in the world. It's also the most religious country in the world outside of the Middle East, and America gives them stiff competition. So we're not dealing with an electorate that cares about facts. They care about how you can make the facts affect them. If they negatively impact someone else, as long as it helps me, who cares? That's prevalent in almost all democracies, but America is unique in how uninformed a democratic electorate can be.

I disagree with the take on Liz Cheney.
Yes, on policy Liz is awful, but what I think you sometimes call "being polite or gracious" (what divides MAGA from classical Republicans), also comes with some respect for the constitution and the rule of law. I once thought this is something we could take for granted, but clearly almost 50% of the country and 95% of Republican politicians couldn't care less. At this point, this is the only thing that matters. Yes. Gaza is awful, but if Kamala loses this election, there will be no Gaza and possibly no chance at all of redeeming the US in the future. Trump must go to prison to dissuade others from repeating what he has done to this country. As tough as it is to hear, the rest is subordinate to that. Including Gaza. Including Ukraine. Everything.
If African American and Hispanic men are abandoning Democrats, those votes must be made up somewhere. 15% of Republicans voted against Trump when they voted for Niki Haley, even after she had dropped out. They need someone to hold their hand. Is Liz Cheney the right person to do that? Probably not the best. It's pathetic that Niki Haley isn't doing it. But somebody must. Lastly, Liz Cheney has sacrificed her entire career to do what she believes is right. If nothing else, that is worthy of some respect.

As much as we don't like what the Cheneys stand for it is a signal of trying to get back to a place where even when we vehemently disagreed, we could still treat each other with respect. MAGA has destroyed that by standing for inhumane policies.
