I was born in 97 and I prefer to call myself a Zillennial instead I hate being lumped in the Gen-Z category with kids who are graduating from high school this year and kids who were still in diapers or potty training by the time I started my first year of high school and Millennials make me feel left out cause they always gotta remind me how young I am but I love to acknowledge that I’m a blend between both generations and prefer to be identified in my own category I just hope Zillennials can become more widely known and recognized.

I am 2002, as children we played together with the 1995-2004 kids. As we were from a low social income region, we did not have much access to technology and therefore, took the elder kids/teens as our role models. That means, we got introduced to both, the culture and way of thinking of the 1995-1999 people. People our age, or younger than us, we often perceive as woke and as if you were walking with them on egg shells.
Back then, we had physical fights and bullying, trying to emabrass each other. None of this racism identity politics bs mattered. That's what separates be from my fellow Gen-Zr's.

Funfact: Zillenians were originally discovered and studied by The Coca Cola Company in the early 2010s. The company discovered this "Generation Zero" that differs from the y and z generations in 2014 while studying the values, attitudes, inspirations and mindsets of young Europeans born between 1995 and 2012. "Generation zero" was found in the study to be happier than previous generations, value free time, passion and experiences more than money, were self-motivated and self-inspired, and believe that they can achieve success without money (but also felt that the chances of success had decreased), and these were considered to arise from the change that traditional career paths and old-fashioned working life no longer exist because the world is becoming digitized and robotized.
Of course, from the current situation, I'm happier about the fact that many other than just The Coca Cola Company alone have started to be interested in zillenials. But I am grateful that The Coca Cola Company was the first to pay attention to us, even though it is a money drived international mega-corporation. But it has also been sad that for a long time no one else was interested in us, other than this large soft drink company.
BTW, I was born in 1996 and I have never felt that I belong to the millennials who were teenagers in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but found that I am not accepted in generation z because I was born before Facebook and the iPhones.

i was born in early '02 and i relate to this alot. for instance on tiktok or popular gen z content creators, they're mainly younger than me or some that are my age. But mostly the age range that i keep seeing are mostly 3+ yrs younger than me. ive always looked up to and watched millenials on social media for most of my teen years and was the main influence for me. I feel like i dont fit in alot sometimes with the main gen z years which i consider around 2004-2007, around that. I believe gen z starts in '95 and ends in 2012, so id consider myself in the older half of gen z. I just feel old or dont fit in as much to recently, and i feel like i fit in with older ppl.

@@purelypolinI'm a 04 baby and as I'm approaching 20 soon I would say 04 and before maybe till around that 1995 give or take is how I personally seen zeillennial's. I wasn't born or live in the USA so new Zealand terminology for a zeillennial might be a bit different but I relate to more millennial than gen z as I just find gen z trends weird and don't understand half of them and I do also remember the time before the internet probably because new Zealand is 5-10 years behind the USA and we get things later on. but I do relate with what your saying and did experience the same things flip phones, VHS tapes, dial up, land lines the lot but I guess everyone is free to decide what gen they belong to within reason ( e.g gen alpha saying there a millennial )

@@holden2260 thanks for sharing! I guess the “scale of birth years” is varying, but I think its more about what you experienced, had growing up, influences/mindset, etc. that make someone a Zillennial. Because its literally the ones that grew up on the “millennial life” but are on the older end of Gen Z so they get dubbed as just Gen Z from older people, when in reality they are a mix of both!

      @@purelypolin Yes!! Paint!
That makes sense- I was on MySpace from 7th to 10th grade, so our three year difference really shows here.
      Thinking into this…
This puts into perspective that my group (1991- 1994, perhaps) were youngest group to first “socialize” online. There was nothing to compare it to. It was all new. I say this because we all entered middle school when social media sites first started.
When I left school, IG/ Snapchat started. That means YOU (1995- 1998) know a high school world that involves less MySpace and a lot more IG/ Snapchat.
I imagine just those technological changes alone would change how someone born early versus mid 90s would relate.
Fun to ponder this. Thanks for all the food for thought! 💛

Many Gen Z folks identify as zillenial, such as me (2001). I’d say you can break down being a zillenial into these categories:
    Very Young Zillenial (2003 -2005)
    - this is a huge stretch. I’d still consider them core gen z but some of them may feel differently.
    - you have flashes on memories before internet took over everything but not concrete memories of experiences of life before that time.
    - you probably remember iPods but most likely grew up on streaming music rather than purchasing online.
    - you may have caught the last good good parts of SpongeBob and the end of shows like Hannah Montana live.
    - You vaguely remember the silly bandz and mustache era
    - You vaguely remember trips to blockbuster
    Young Zillenial (1999 - 2002)
    - Older Gen z but can pass as zillenial. Most of the time you do. Some people don’t count you but you probably count yourself.
    - Still at the end of the zillenial spectrum but not much of a stretch
    - You were a 2000s kid through and through
    - You remember a time before the internet took over everything and have concrete memories and lived experiences of this time to be recalled
    - You had iPods and mp3 players before iPhones
    - you probably had a slide phone or flip phone before iPhone.
    - Instagram was probably your first social media platform and it most likely happened in the middle school years.
    - you remember shows like Hannah Montana, and caught SpongeBob episodes live while it was nearing the end of its really good era.
    - You remember when internet was a total luxury and you had to ask permission first before going online.
    - you caught shows like Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Lizzie McGuire and Drake and Josh on demand and reruns shortly after they completely their run. You may have caught parts of them live but not likely.
You remember trips to blockbuster, dvds, vcrs etc.
    - you remember a time when family was tethered to a landline.
    - you remember phone books.
    - you were most likely alive during 9/11 but are too young to remember any of it.
    - you woke up in the middle of the night to George Lopez or some other Nick at night show at least once.
    - You most likely were not an iPad kid.
    - You played computer games like WEBKINZ and Club Penguins
    - when you think of MTV you probably think of reality shows first
    - you became adult before 2020
    - you remeber cds and cd players
Pretty Little Liars started in your late elementary and early middle school years. It dominated high school watch time
    - probably still use terms like OMG and YOLO and TTYL
    Core Zillenial (1995 - 1998)
    - you were very young during 9/11 and have flashes (maybe) but they are hazy memories
    - You fully watched or at least caught parts of shows like Lizzie McGuire, That’s So Raven, and Drake and Josh live on tv.
    - You vaguely remember 90s toys and shows but probably not concrete memories.
Instagram and Facebook were probably the first social media sight you got on.
    - You remember life before the internet took over everything and have concrete memories of it. You vaguely remember dial up internet.
    - You went through the mustache and silly band phase in high school years.
    - You became an adult before or by 2018z
    - You remember computer games like Club Penguins and WEBKINZ
    - most of above for young zillenial regarding internet and phones and dvs, and shows
    - when you think of MTV you most likely think of reality shows first but somewhat or vaguely remember the music video days too
    - Pretty Little Liars started in your middle school years and dominated high school time
    - probably still use terms like OMG and YOLO and TTYL
    Older Zillenial (1992-1994)
    - you remember 90s toys and shows clearly
    - You caught parts of 90s shows like Full House and Friends with mom and/or dad
    - Shows like Lizzie McGuire and Drake and Josh were core childhood shows and watched live
    - you watched the best years of SpongeBob live
    - Pretty Little Liars was your high school years
    - you didn’t get your first iPhone until high school but mostly likely had one before you graduated and went to college
    - when you think of MTV you probably think of reality shows first but remember the music video days too
    - you probably remeber hearing the rumors that the world would end in 2000 and cried to mom and dad about it
    - you’re 20s are almost over

    • @purelypolin
      @purelypolin  4 месяца назад

I didn't have a Facebook account until I was almost 16 in 2015, and I didn't have a Twitter account until the middle of 2017, when I was almost 18. I was born in 1997 and have a sister born in January 2003 (basically 2002) and a brother born in 1994. There's a big gap between the childhood of me and my brother and hers since we remember the first half of the 2000s when things like Facebook, Myspace, RUclips and Twitter weren't around

Born in 97 and im a gen z kid and taking gen z side on this one because we are definitely better then those millennials generation by far, because our technology where just way better then what millennial had.. like we had gamecube, psp, gameboy color and gameboy advance sp dragon ball z on cartoon network and pokemon (indigo league of course) yu gi oh (my boy kaiba had the best deck of course) and of course the best console of them all (playstation 2) im telling i bet those millennials kids didnt even experienced anything like that or played gta san Andreas r.i.p bigsmoke they probably only experienced the atari back when pong was still around.. Gen Z is definitely the best generation 😊 and is absolutely nothing wrong with them, they are definitely not soft or sensitive or need any parents coming to interviews with them.. Yep feels great be a gen z kid 😂.. im sure the gen z kid born in 2012 definitely knows exactly what im talking about on this post here and can easily relate to me ( especially budgeting bills driving stick shifts cars and taking care of kids ) yep im sure millennial can not relate to anything i just said here 😮.. (just calling it how i see it) i could be trolling or blind to the world idk

Hi! Generally speaking currently Zillennials are defined as the the micro generation in between Millennials & Gen-Z, the birth year range that is the most common right now is 1993-1998, but I am also starting to see it go up to 2000 or 2002. Usually post 2001/2002 is definitely Gen-Z, but I guess if we go with the more generous range it would also make you a Zillennial! Hope this helps :)

@@purelypolinI personally think Zillenials should be considered the older Gen z (1997-2002). I was born in 2001 and can also remember that era of technology with landlines , box TVs, CDs, the very last years of VHS, DVDs, Bootleg DVD's ect . I am also old enough to remember phones before they were even touch screen and the world way before social media completely took over the world in the 2010's onwards. I might have not owned the Motorola/ flip phone & OG Nokia's first hand, but I definitely remember them since I witnessed them through my parents/older siblings who were obviously old enough to own one and in general that was the 2000s era which I would remember being born very early in the decade.

@@alieunjie8459 I see your point, I think although theres that “age range” because they always have to do a cut off, I do think zillennial is a bit flexible for just the kids “in between” that aren’t completely millennial or completely gen-Z!

I think y'all are extending "Zillennial" too far back. I was born in 1994 and feel just Millennial. Late Millennial, sure, but nothing even remotely like Gen Z. A lot of the stuff you describe is just full on Millennial. I think if you were in high school in the 2000s, ur just a Millennial.
One of my best friends was born in 1988 and we got more in common than I do with anyone born in 2000 which is full on Gen Z

I think being in high school in the 2010s and graduating 2013-2016 is more Zillennial than it is Millennial, whereas going to high school and graduating in the early 2000s (Millennial) and mid/late 2000s is Late Millennial).
I am now seeing that It does seem to vary depending on the environment each person grew up in including the age of siblings etc. too! As opposed to strictly the birth year

Y'all are just cusps, Xennial and Zillennials is just the transitioning period. Its not suppose to be some kind of identity crisis. I was born in 89 and have older siblings that I guess would be considered "Xennials". If i told them that they don't belong in my generation, they'd probably agree and say "thats because it's YOU that belongs to MY generation". I also have siblings born in the late 90s that I'm pretty sure dont use that terminology. It's not even a big deal and the brackets arent even 100% accurate. I think the younger generation just try too hard to be different. Y'all are just the youngest or the oldest of your generation.

    • @purelypolin
      @purelypolin  28 дней назад

True, zillennial just kinda narrows it down more, and makes it a bit more specific, bc there are very distinct differences in pop culture/lingo/mentality etc. in say someone born in 1998 vs someone in 2004, but if we go about that approach both would just be considered the “older end” of Gen Z since Gen Z is until 2012. But a 26 yr old (born 1998) now, grew up on very different things than a 20 year old (born 2004) so the difference does matter. At the end of the day, it’s a relatability thing, and sharing insights, not an identity crisis. Just food for thought!

    • @noflyzone2307
      @noflyzone2307 27 дней назад

@purelypolin This doesn't apply to every Millennial within this "Zillennial" timeline. I think the biggest factor is the environment you grew up in. To think that my best friends little brother (1993) who was around us all the time, listened to the same music, watched the same shows. Pretty much did everything we did, but somehow he doesn't relate to us now. There were a lot of kids younger and older than me in the neighborhood and there really isn't anything significant enough to seperate us. It's crazy that I'm just finding out about this whole Zillennial thing. I've heard of the term before, but I didn't know it was some kind of movement that the younger generation trying to completely seperate themselves and of course you'll have followers that will agree, why? Maybe bc they grew up with more or maybe they were sheltered and didn't get to live the full experience, but to me I feel like it's just a small group trying to be different and more relevant. The youngest millennial is like 30 now, We're too old for this.

Yup that makes you a Zillennial! They always classify that year range as “Gen Z” but its a more an umbrella term, but if we narrow down more its “Zillennials” that’s why Zillennials also called “cuspers” …..totally feel you on the no smartphone until 16, it was a slide up physical keyboard or a flip phone late 8th grade/9th grade 😂
