We are true believers that making art is something humans need to do, and paint by numbers is a great way for people to experience the meditative, self-care value of the painting process without pressure!

I use the small bottles that you add flavoring to water, after using, twist the top off, clean, fill them with water and refill the water brushes, they fit perfectly, under 2oz each. Love them! 🎨

I know what you mean when you mentioned getting distracted when sketching outdoors. You could consider wearing headphones to deter people from interrupting you and telling you their life history. They can act as a visual 'don't bother me' message even when you might not be listening to anything.

Oh, I love this Palette! I just bought the 48 color version last week. I bought it thinking the paint would be very cheap quality, but I wanted the Palette itself. I had planned to pop out the paint and fill it with better paints, but I tested the paint first and was surprised by how really high quality the paint was. So, now I've been using it every day. I'm planning to get the other size Palettes from them as well, because even after the paint runs out, I can refill it with my own paints, and the Palette itself is such amazing good quality. So glad I bought mine.

I got one of these koi kits just for an easy form factor! I was disappointed in the quality of the paint! I have replaced all of the paint with DaVinci Watercolors! I might recommend buying a small DaVinci 12 color palette, over this one, their 6 color mixing palette was less than I paid for the Koi!
I guess I say better to use quality paints over cheaper paint.

  • @robertwhitaker3839

Koi is listed as student grade quality so I resisted buying it until i needed a travel kit when i went overseas. Wow! What a set! The colors are vibrant and almost opaque. A few colors are a touch "grainy" but nothing too bad. Will I give up my Da Vinci or windsor newtons? No, but they are great for the price point and what they are.

Wow! I have the same colours. I asked for water colours and my art supplier showed me these. I wanted to get something cheaper (in India there are local cheaper alternatives) but the stationer suggested that I take these "There are a little expensive than the Camlin, but these are much better." I bought them and I like these colours.

While Koi is a lovely set, I am finding it to be frustrating that paints are sort of put in place for you and you cannot change them around much, or (because the nests for them are not standard size and Koi doesn't sell paints one by one, so once the paint is out the set has a hole it it, so to speak) you cannot substitute your own; hence some alternatives, if you can get them:
    - Mungyo watercolours - 24 set (48 set has some close-to-redundant colours and three 'metallics' which are the only awful three paints in the whole range; 12 set I am finding a little too limited). It is not expensive, the box is metal (so will not shatter in travels like plastic), it has a holding ring too, and the benefit of this set is that you can take and replace watercolours you won't need with any half-pans you wish (including any other open stock Mungyo). If you use a middle row of the box for paints instead of brush, you can fit even more paints to take with you.
    - Van Gogh, any set you can afford, I personally really like their 15-paints basic set, as I am finding it very versatile and well-balanced; overall I am using Van Gogh half-pans for years and they never failed me; they mix well and for the price range they are very well saturated without being chalky. The half-pans in the set can be taken out and replaced if you run out of one colour or wish to customize the palette.
I won't recommend bying a set but one-by-one Jacksons'art half-pans (reportedly rebranded Sennelier) are really good solution, as for me, if I need to add an extra colour or replace some of the above.

I like the palette itself but the quality of the paints is average (at best). I would pop out the paint and fill it with tubes from a good quality brand. This way it would be absolutely perfect

I had a small set of these a while ago. The pigments are REALLY bad. They are chalky, with not much pigment. It is student grade. I would definitely not recommend them for anyone who wants to learn to watercolor. All the teachers I’ve had say buy artist quality paint. All the Koi are good for is to add color in a journal or a coloring book. If you want to make art…just no. Beginners will get frustrated with this low quality pigment.
I do like the design of the box. But not the flimsy plastic container of paints. You can rip it out and get the file from Mike Daikobara to 3D print a better insert.

    • @danyelhudon458

I am fully agreed with your comment, but she is doing nothing wrong with her suggestion to have this Sakura Koi in her purse or pocket as a fast set up expérience when she wants to use it, according to my humble opinion! I like the kit itself of being a compact one to be using! The pigments itself is a student grade, but is convient a friend budget for every one who wants to trying it for fun! Just the case itself is a good quality to buy and you can using a better quality pigments after all!

    • @mkbuike7895
      @mkbuike7895 Год назад +1

@@danyelhudon458 I agree about the case. If beginners can afford it, it’s better to use Artist Quality supplies. So I disagree with characterizing this as “the best” for beginners.

@@SeaLemonDIY I am not the original commenter, so I don't know their reasoning, but if you wish to improve your thumbnails, may I suggest making your own geniune expression for it? 'Reaction' expression, i.e. intentially exaggerated and often completely artificial grimace isn't very attractive to look at. I am aware that this is a recommeded trend for youtubers to follow as it is supposed to bring more attention/clicks, but I am finding this to be a rather undignified fad.
(The composition of the thumbnail isn't very good either, with small postcard of the plane being of the same about promimence as a head).
As a viewer it isn't obviously enough for me to unsubscribe, but if you look for a feedback, I felt that intent and composition of this thumbnail was overly artificial, insincere and followed the recent recommended fad instead of your own honest reaction (also composition was confusing in sense of picture balance).
