In aprox 1958 I was in heat for one of these while stationed at Moody Air force base, Valdosta Georgia. The local dealer offered these considerably less than the Delphine Renault. I much preferred the 4CV for the beautiful 1940s design. Alas, $ 1.000.00 price for a new one was way more than an Airman could payfor in the 4 year hitch we were to serve in the military. Damn, but things are different now, aren't they?I see 2 stripers driving new cars and they have wives and kids to support.I have to admit that I wasn't faced the same fears of today. God bless our troops.Damn the jerk in the Whitehouse.
Four horses because the power of the car is 4 horse powers : hence 4CV. "CV" stands for "chevaux" (i.e. horse power). That's why the Renault "Four Cee Vee" is known as "Quatre Chevaux" in France. As well as the Citroen 2CV is called "Deux Chevaux" (this one was so popular some nicknamed is "Deuche" or "Deudeuche" !…).
I have a Gordini Dauphine with the four speed, 1st is up, it has spoiled me, (shift pattern is just like a VW bug), I totally forgot the older ones were 3 speeds, 1st being down.....
Hey Mark, Why did you have so much trouble with the gear pattern. It is a simple three speed on the floor. First is towards you and down, same as Dauphine, unless you have a four speed Dauphine!
looks like fun! normal for the amp gauge to bounce that way? I can see why you love these little cars..best I dont drive one, or I might get bitten by the bug!
I've heard Renault pronounced "Ra...no" I think that may be how the French pronounce it. I always said "Ra..nalt"... :) That amp gauge was sure doing some dancing around, wasn't it? Nice little car.
OMG a such beautiful 4cv in the USA ? how do you do that ?! ^^ Looks at this video at 3:20 you will see a rare & nice 4cv décapotable in France this ;-) ^^ --> /watch?v=f4A3P_d43FE
The correct pronounciation is RE-NO. The T is not sounded in French. That car is a beautiful example. The nicest Renault 4CV I've seen.
Wish that new cars would have this quality of styling in their interiors..
Over the years I owned 8 Renault 4CV's. The rarest was a 1951 convertible. I loved them.
Wow , I'll search that model. I knew someone who had one in New Zealand. Sweeet looking cars.

There was a Great one since and then a worse jerk now !
Superbe 4cv export, très recherchée par chez nous et un peut partout..
Comme elle est mignonne avec ce bleu qui lui va si bien ! Une 4 cv avec des plaques US , surprenant !
I'd have a hard time keeping my hands off such a pretty little car myself! Probably looks better than it did 52 years ago on the showroom floor.
That cutie looks brand new!
In the first minute alone, he said "nice" once for every CV.

Yes, all are unsychronized 1st, some early microcars have NO synchronizers at all
Amazing that the Grey Poupon stays put during the drive. Is it wedged in there?
"But, of Course !" haha!
That is a nice looking car, maybe yours will look similar soon?
Why was the one indicator pulsing while you sat in it?
What a joy.
Очень красивая машина!!!
Cute car. Rear engine Porsche conversion is a sensible upgrade.

A few, transporters and the sleeker looking car...working on Glas 1700 now.
Sound like a much more "civilized" engine...liquid cooled and 4 stroke?
Looks like it is the gas gauge.
InNaVaOy
noticed some sheetmetal damage in the rear apron underneath the bumper?
Also the exhaust tip sits too low and the horn is not a factory horn .
Yep, gas gauge is wiggly
Do any or all of these little cars have unsychronized first gear?
Sure nice car.
I always loved the looks of 4cv's -- cuter than the VW bugs but the VWs always had the better reputation -- my opinion :-)
The VW Beetle is a completely different car.
Have you had any experiences with Goggomobils?
Very nice Renault !!
Sweet!
try not to get bit...hahaha
The "R" in Renault kind of sounds like you're clearing your throat...
Really ? I'll have a look see...
Crosley first gear down too, american made!

Rick S You're right. I can see it now I look a little closer.
That is nothing,,when you learn Dutch you will have more problems with the letter G : )
