Voice of Sephiroth from Echo-S7 here, thanks for the shoutout! Funny how you mentioned how fitting that type of voice acting was. We actually had that in mind, while still adding believability to the whole performance. Rather challenging. Basically, the goal was "Early Days Funimation." Once again, thanks for the shout out!
Recently beaten the entire FF7 with the Echo S7 mod and I wanna say you guys made the entire game come alive. And you especially nailed the voice acting with the Supernova attack. Thank you.
The art is incredibly unique from an era when 3D games were just as much inventing the format as they were utilizing it. I find the popeye arms endearing and the low poly nostalgic. FF7 graphics were incredibly jaw dropping in 97'. They moved goalposts on damn near every aspect at the time. I get that I have the benefit of context when judging the game though. The game was absorbed by me at a time when it was a technical marvel, not years and technological leaps later. All but the very best 2600 games are practically unplayable to me so I have an analogue from the other direction. I will always love FF7s original presentation but I also am a huge advocate for a modern graphical and mechanical overhaul. I would rather younger generations have the ability to enjoy the original game with modern incentives. An iteration that isn't antiquated by todays mechanics and graphics. Something that welcomes players into an epic timeless experience instead of obscuring it through the patina of 30 year old technology. The original deserves an actual remake but something more in the vein of a remaster with added content. The game is a large part in gaming history. People should be able to experience it as the event it is and not as a glimpse into what the past was.
Its never too late to do something you enjoy. I'm 45, and in 1997 I went to a Virgin Megastore, looking for the new album from The Prodigy, "The Fat Of The Land" and while searching for it, i went trough the video-games section, and a BIG ASS cardboard cut-out was drawing attention to FF7 which had just been released, and on display. I was torn. i had been waiting for FF7 for a long time, but i also really wanted that album (i was very into EDM at the time), but i couldn't afford both. I had to choose, so, to tide me over, i went to a listening booth, and went over the full album, and purchased the game on my way out. I don't regret it for a second. FF7 was everything it was promised to be, and then some. Its no wonder it became a landmark for RPGs. It took me a little while, but i later purchased the album as well. It just so happens that much like FF7 for video-games, that album also became a landmark for EDM, and strangely enough, it also became a gateway "drug" for heavy-metal, mostly thank to the song "Firestarter", which in turn was made famous not just on its own merit, but because of another video-game, Wipeout XL (aka. Wipeout 2097), where that song sort of became a "poster boy" for the franchise among fans.
U r my older brothers age lol I remember watching him play this and Trying to figure out where to go when I played. But we only rented Playstation from blockbuster.. I still never got past disc 2.. got a ps2 in 2003
To be fair the game came out in 97 and by 99 there were games on same/similar hardware that blew FF7 away. It doesn't take away from the games epicness, but it he's not wrong. It was basically dated since 98
Definitely was hyping up 7 when it came out only to have my friends immediately turned off by the blocky hands and Popeye arms. "Man Soul Blade looks better than this game." was one such response I remember. Felt like I was dying on a hill defending the art style.
@@TopHatGamingManChannelThe battle graphics were good for the time and the field models were intentionally stylized. Plus we’re talking about a giant 50 hour rpg. FF7 looked amazing at the time for a game of its scope.
Calling the visuals of the original “diarrhea” is mad disrespectful I’m definitely guilty of preferring games with modern graphics even with indisputable classics like FF VII. Hell, I even prefer the visuals of the HD Remaster. So I get wanting a less dated visual appearance. But it’s unnecessarily overboard to call the originals visuals “diarrhea”. Particularly at the time, the original had a fresh visual style.
I played and finished the PC version back in the 90s. That’s my memory of the game. The graphics were updated and crisper than the PS1 version. Due to our nice graphics card making use of that at the time I got a better visual experience than most. I’m happy I did because it allowed for the best experience. Some of the late game summons were a sight to behold atthe time!
my OG experience was on PS1, i've not had the pleasure of doing it on PC, but after this video, i have all the more encouragement to do so. especially when FF7R just keeps getting worse because Gen Z Losers are triggered by sexy polygonal characters.
I remember beta testing echo s mod I put so many hours into it. I also voiced one of the NPCs in the mod. I loved working on it and I'm glad to see others talk about the mod. Tsunamimods are amazing and I will always thank tsunami for giving me the chance to help with such a great group of people.
(At the time) The field character models were rough, but the battle models were pretty good. And the pre-rendered backgrounds were great, and each area is so memorable.
Pleeeeease someone make one that swaps the field models for just the battle models, not chibbi or advent or any other adaption just a straight swap so the games visually consistent
The Ninostyle mod has one that does exactly this already. I've started a playthrough with it and tbh some of the charm of the animations is lost with the more realistically proportioned models so I ended up switching it over to the chibi models. Definitely worth a go to see if it's for you though. Just wasn't to my personal tastes.
I still remember going to a local game shop and seeing that PS case inside a tall, glass display. Never heard of it prior and traded a beanie baby benny the bull just because the cover looked badass. The white cover with the Square logo then made me buy Parasite Eve. Peak for me
Graphical remake while retaining the old-school style (like RE1 Remake did on Gamecube)? yes... but no voice acting for me personally. It can ruin a game If done wrong , FF7 never had It or needed It , I don't want Impressions and voice actors Imposing on my Idea of these characters. Sometimes It's done really well minimalistically like In Soulslike games etc.. and I didn't mind FFX voice acting , but It always had It where as FF7 originally didn't. I don't like how FF7 Remakes English voice acting was handled for some of the characters , you just can't trust Square with that nowdays.
All these visual mods don’t understand their art direction with the games. Go back and look at the actual concept art; it is made with chibi versions of the characters.
I discovered final fantasy 7 mods like these a little bit ago but I have not got around to try them out.. normally I am not a big fan of voice acting in general but thank you for showing off what the voice acting in this game could be because that sounds great and I think I'm sold! 😮
I may be old but to me the old designs still look incredible. The OW models surely are the lowest detail but they still managed to convey each character clearly especially with the animations they used. The battle models I think look good even today and replacing just the player characters causes something that is IMO much more distubring:Inconsisten artstyle. The early 3D days were pretty complicated we moved from extremly refined 2D Pixelart and Background into this new mediums which was rapidly progressing. Like the design are obviously low poly but I would never call them ugly.
New threat is pretty good, though I’m not crazy about the pseudo job system and quirky armor and weapons. By the end of the game I just slapped wizard bracelets on everyone iirc because it has maxed out materia slots.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Shinra Archeology mod. It more or less makes several corrections to the original localization's choppy dialogue, reworks it to use terminology consistent with later entries and even restores scrapped cutscenes with crucial context.
I’m so thrilled and happy to have this amazing game on my Nintendo Switch, in physical form with Final Fantasy VIII on the same cart. It’s such a pity that I cannot enjoy these graphic overhauls on my Switch, but hey, you can have it all, now, can you?
I was debating between a switch and a steam deck. I went for the deck. I genuinely hope you enjoy the switch, but I think I made the right decision for me. A permanent library and mods are so very welcome.
@@edgarlarios4718 I have the switch XCI FFVII file, it runs perfectly via yuzu on steam deck. You can have multiple versions of FFVII running on the same system.
I absolutely love what the fans have done to OG FFVII. Going from 240p 15fps gameplay to 1080p 60fps AND all the pre-rendered element improvements is insanely impressive. For context FFVII is so primitive it relied largely on goraud shading.
VII was my favorite for a very long time- I'm a bit rusty but I was a walking guide-book to this game before the Internet came along. Over time though, X has grown more and more on Me, I feel a lot like Tidus much of the time- thrust into a World that he doesn't understand/belong in, tries to do right but due to the Culture ends up in trouble often. It's hard to say which I like better, Cloud has his mental issues with Jenova and his memories not being his own. I just love the way they deal with Mental issues in these Games. I really need to replay VII again soon! Mods do really help keep the game fresh, last time I played I had a few installed. I actually made a mod for Crysis back in 2010ish where I recreated the battle system and the very first couple scenes, but I never finished/released it and the files are long-gone with a failed drive. Great games! I miss the classic turn based systems, I much do not like the newer action systems but if folks enjoy them I don't think they should go away, it'd be nice if they had a toggle where you could play the game in the classic way or play in the new action-based way. *Saving this vid for future reference when I play again. Thanks for it, sub earned ;)
Appreciate the content, I bought ff7 and installed 7th heaven after watching. Man this vid needs some help though. Video chapters, a list of all mods in the description, mod names shown in the video for all mods so I don't have to try to guess the spelling.
Bruh, your description is littered with discounts on games, no mod links whatsoever, just links to other youtubers which then are either down a rabbit hole of links or behind patreons, honestly more people need to call this BS out, I can go on Nexus mods and get mods for Baldurs Gate 3 or Elden Ring, so why are these not linked correctly? shocking.
at no point in 1999 was anyone talking about ff7 looking outdated. Literally no one. I'm not sorry about this comment because as a kid who was absolutely obsessed w/ the whole FF series, I was on every message board you could find in the 90's on our school computers. Only at the DROP of the PS2, ppl were discussing a possible remake w/ upgraded graphics for the PS2 or Sega.
Believe it or not, not everyone has memorized the release date of every mod ever made. This video isn’t just for seasoned veterans -it’s for people who might be discovering mods for the first time. Considering the game came out 27 years ago, and mods are constantly evolving and being updated, there's always something getting better. As for your comment, I have been aware of FF7 modding for quite some time but only just got around to making a video, which is quickly garnering a lot of interest.
bro chill, im glad you knew about it to but plenty of people didn't know about nino style or modding in general. My friend started skyrim on 360 learned about mods from youtube and became a pc gamer since with 3000 hours in skyrim on pc.
I already have the original version on Steam, and Remake & Rebirth on PS5. Definitely going to have to download the pc version on my Ally, and take a look at modding it.
@@bobmclovinelectricboogaloo It's not even a reboot, it's some kind of sequel with time travel and/or a multiverse. It's like the writers asked DC how to turn the franchise into a mess.
This video really highlights how much better and more consistent FF8 and 9 were with there art styles. I don't understand why Squaresoft went back to the less detailed overworld models when they already fixed that issue in FF6. I'd say the biggest issue will all of the PS1 era FF games is the low resolution pre-rendered backgrounds that don't look good on modern displays.
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Sorry I could have worded it better. In FF1-5 the overworld sprite were smaller less details sprites. When you got into battle the sprite were bigger and more detailed. FF7 is the same but with 3D models. Meanwhile in FF6 the sprites in the over world and battles were the exact same which added a lot of consistency to that game's art style and made it look a lot better compared to the first five games. FF8 and 9 did what FF6 did because it looks a lot better.
@@RegalPixelKing No, they did not. And no, they did not look "better". The over-world of FF7 was LITERALLY designed with the so-called "chibi" looks in mind. This was to allow more expressive and recognizable characters while portraying these huge landscapes from some truly far away cinematic camera angles, while rendering the game at 240p. It works great, and for a game built with literal SNES era computer hardware and software, it looks stellar.
@@GugureSux You can disagree whether or not it looks better, but regardless of your opinion SE agrees with me and thinks that it looks better if you look at how FF8 and FF9 modified their art styles. And FF8 and 9 also had huge landscapes in cinematic camera angles, but with more realistic proportioned character models on the overworld. Same thing for their other PS1 games too like Chrono Cross and Vagrant Story. All the overworld models looks pretty awkward to me tbh like super low-poly Mario for Mario 64 for example.
Thing is those mods are all amazing but what I want is a mod that takes all the canon content before the remake an adds it into the game chronologically so you can play in the additions of advent children and the rest. Even if all the graphics are still original ;) and having it as a mod that could run on MiSTer or original patched hardware would be a bonus. Sure I have classic mini as well but I still have 5 working original playstation consoles. Might be fun to see if someone could make it work ;)
Any word on if they're going to do anything with the Ehrgeiz: God bless the ring game which is the final fantasy fighting game that has RPG your elements Incorporated?
Thats cool and all but i think most of us who play retro games would like to play the game in its original artstyle. Personally i thought the og FF7 looked amazing. Yes the blocky sprites look outdated and silly but i find it charming.
I modded the hell out of the game my last playthrough on the PC version and it was worth it. Maybe because I'm not old and bitter yet. Minimum the 60 FPS patch. I played with New Treath too the new bosses and extra challenges were nice too.
I've been wanting to revisit the OG FF7 after completing Remake for a while now, and these mods are edging me even more. I wonder if you can get them to work on the Steam Deck?
i wish the modders could take ever crisis assets to redo the backgrounds and 3D models, but i hope square enix will do a soft remake of the original using ever crisis assets, but full proper game, not weird mobile
The only part of the original graphics that really bothered me were the blocky arms. Then you see the combat sprites and the arms look normal, so you know they didn't have to do that. Then there's that final "battle" with Sephiroth where you have a battle sprite closer to the FMV graphics style, and it doesn't even slow anything down, and you know there really wasn't an excuse for those arms. Other stuff I can just accept as stylistic choices, but not those arms.
3D models are NOT "sprites"; those are 2D bitmap images. The "blocky arms" thing you're referring to is just a simplified "chibi" art style, that often used "boxing glove" hand designs. The whole world is scaled for this art style, which is why the "realistic" proportions mods look weird. Also, you are forgetting that the development of FF7 started already in 1994, during a literal SNES era. The polygonal 3D gaming was still a brand new, difficult frontier, and the early titles demonstrate these struggles well. FF7 alone runs at 480i 60fps in the menus, 30fps 240p on the field, and 15fps 240p during combat. For the polycount budget of ONE in-battle character model, you could fill an entire screen with a dozen or so chibi models on the world map.
@@GugureSux Dude, me knowing the exact term for the 3D polygon alternative to sprites isn't that serious. And I know it's a style that was going around. I played(and really loved) the original Wild Arms game, and its combat graphics were blocky as heck. Seriously, if you haven't seen the first Wild Arm's(not the remake) graphics, they're a sight to behold!
It's boxy because it was supposed to release on Nintendo 64. They didn't want to do the work or spend the money to change character designs, so they stuck with what they had. I don't mind the boxiness at all. Adds to the nostalgia.
Nope, the artists literally have documented that they wanted to go with the more chibi-style for the world map views, because at low res and far away camera views, it made the characters easier to recognize.
Amazing stuff. At this point, i woukdnt be surprised to see tue graphics vokpletely overhauled witu FF7 Remake graphics in the oeiginal game somehow in a few years. If Square was smart, theyd rerelease the original game like this and profit off this while they can.
The first mod which is the out of battle model for Cloud is kinda inaccurate and jarring. He never wore Fingerless gloves or wore them on both hands. That was introduced in Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia. Just get the Nino style battle models and put them in the overworld.
I'll admit the game play graphics on FF7 are out dated but I'd say the cut scenes still hold up. They blew me away when I 1st saw them, back in late 90s and apart from looking kind of grainy they are still good.
The pre-rendered backgrounds are gorgeous and atmospheric. The cinematography, paired with the beautiful OST, are top notch. The art style is very consistent and sparks curiosity.
Yes, think it's mostly the in game sprites that are lacking. You have to remember this came out on a console 5 generations ago. For it's time the graphics were top-tier.
In defence of modders, OG FF7 PC-port and even emu' doesn't look like it did on PS back in the day. For starters, it was in many ways cutting edge at the time, while now it looks quirky and weird. Also it displayed as intended mainly on crt-tv's. And in many ways the og ps version was superior. All contributing to the desire to upgrade the pc experience!
I think in preperation for Rebirth iam going to get the Steam version of the OG (finally. The 3rd time buying this game: OG PC, Switch and now Steam). I think i can do without voice acting though.
if does not look like Diarria? wow, thats a harsh statement, i love the artstyle and how the game make you see so much diferent kind of places and "moods" with it. its true that back then this was not the best looking game in videogame history, but it was not ugly at all, and there was no other game in the market able to customize your party and do crazy things as FF7 Materia system, or that take you to so many places and as lengthy as FF7.
Remake and Rebirth are amazing, platinumed them both. I also played the originals when they game out and I totally disagree. This game looked amazing, and the current steam version is, in my opinion, the best way to play the original. With some upscaled background art.
I love BOTH versions, OG and Remake for different reasons, the extra story and new bosses make for a new challenge. Also, I love how insane some the characters are in battle, Tifa can WRECK the super bosses/battle Simulation, Barret is a f**king TANK and in Remake, can be the better healer due to how Prayer works, Aerieth is a spell slinging godess that can heal or harm, Cloud is a good all rounder etc.
Yeah, even by 1998 the graphics looked laughable here, but then you have to keep in mind the entire game was developed throughout 1996 and completed by the end of that year. They definitely probably had to downgrade some of the character models because this was the most massive game ever released at the time. Those blocky arms are just unforgivable though lol
I still like the dated graphics, though I think if they have done a full remake of the turn based FF7, then it should be like FF Ever Crisis, the full FF7 game not the game with bits of the story in it.
It looked laughably bad back then? WTF are you talking about? I didn’t know a single person that thought it was anything other than a visual spectacle.
My knee-jerk reaction: 1. Too much detail. Now they're too detailed for the backgrounds. It's the texutres I don't like. Should've left the textures simpler. Couldn't gone about 50% as far? 2. This isn't Advent Children, now is it? 3. Opera Omni looks about right with what I see? I think. 4. VA isn't necessary, maybe too much 'room' atmosphere? But they nailed the quality, I agree. Good job. 5. Good on them for the polish and adding deleted content back in. Not sure how I feel about the milestone additoins or changing the windows. Is this the stock graphics? Because this looks fine. 6. The upscaling looks too smooth? Or I'm crazy. Makes me think of the SNES upscaling filters that add a bunch of weird angles to edges. 7. Okay, you got me there. The map mod looks goo- why can I see the world's curvature? That's a bit much. Still don't like the models from one but not what we're talking about If I played the game again I think I'd still play it vanilla. Although maybe see if 5 has some options on what is included and what's not.
"Gen Zeroes" Don't blame any individual generation for the continued existence of Woke. Its continued existence is a failure cascade that goes back centuries.
Still my favorite mainline FF. Tactics is favorite. I've been holding on to a pipe dream of SE using assets from FFVIIR to remake FF7. Mods may be the closest reality will take me. Thanks for the comprehensive video. I was aware there were mods but never dove into researching them.
So, I’m a simple man. I’d rather not go through the complications of downloading mods to a game to enhance it. If I have to mod a game to make it better, what does that say about the game? For me, I’m almost done with my first play though Final Fantasy 7, and though I liked it mostly, there’s a lot more than just the visuals that hold it back from being my favorite Final Fantasy. I did play through the Final Fantasy DoS (GameBoy Advanced) remaster of 1 & 2, and then the Pixel Remasters of 3, 4, 5, and 6… but going from them and now playing FF7… none of those mods can fix the sluggish gameplay. The stupid Chocobo catch mechanic. The chasing of Ultimate Weapon. Or the actual gameplay of the snowboard mini-game. Or have a safety net available for players if they missed items or weapons during the adventure. Small QoL features I’d rather have in the base game if I’m playing it. That’s why FF7 isn’t even better than FF3 in my eyes. FF3 had no story, but I HAD FUN playing through it. FF7 is definitely an amazing game, but it’s unpolished and hasn’t been refurbished in far too long. Nearly 30 years, and FF7 will be touted as an amazing game, but I can attest I did not have fun playing through fighting in the Battle Arena or having to fight against Ultimate Weapon. And, I had no issues with the controls. I enjoyed seeing the story first hand for the first time. But, the game needs to be updated similarly to how FF 1-6 are updated. It’s not as enjoyable for new players as people make it out to be…
I would love the Final Fantasy 7 Remake but I just don't like the real time combat system. I have always loved the turn based combat system, especially from Final Fantasy X.
Yeah it's pretty much the same for me. I can enjoy a real time system, but I just couldn't enjoy the one in that remake. With a game that most likely has a lot of battles, not being able to enjoy the combat pretty much ruins the game so I only played the demo.
@Max-ui7yf I quit the remake some time ago but want to give it another try. I think it's a good game but I just don't like the new combat system. I always wished that the remake would have the original combat system.
Wtf is this guy talking about, this game was phenomenal looking when it came out.. like wtf?! fake fan for sure played the game probably when it was already out for years lmao
lol sure but trust me i’ve been using these mods and it enhances the game so much. cutscenes alone are now hd 1080 60 fps and in widescreen now and models are cleaned up and every character has voice acting which makes the game just even better for me as a first time player
not to mention speed up gameplay and visual and adjustable gameplay enhancer/modifiers. i know other games in the series had speed up/auto gameplay but its even better in here you can set it as fast as you want

6:22 I was from back then amd it sucked then too!
Thanks, I got myself Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with your code. Hope you get a commission.
I'm about to start FF7 with the Tsunamod in preparation for the release of Rebirth on PC. Thank you and all the VAs who helped with the project
Recently beaten the entire FF7 with the Echo S7 mod and I wanna say you guys made the entire game come alive. And you especially nailed the voice acting with the Supernova attack. Thank you.
They sound awesome and y’all did an excellent job!!
Sephiroth sounds awesome man. It does sound a lot like something from Funimation dubbed DBZ, or Yu Yu Hakusho.
Fantastic job, you and the rest did amazing.
Never thought the game looked bad. I love the artstyle
Same. If you need this much of an upgrade in visuals maybe they should just play remake and rebirth.
people who say that old games look bad, i weep for them. because they are blind to how terribly bland Modern Gaming is slowly becoming.
Great art is timeless
I always loved the art style too. Always thought the characters held up as far as their battle representation.
Im 43 and have just NOW started playing the 97 version.
Enjoy!!
You’re in for a wild ride.
Never too late to start it ❤
Its never too late to do something you enjoy.
It's such a good game, warts and all, you'll love it.
I played the 97 version recently and i loved it, i can see why it's regarded as a classic
U r my older brothers age lol I remember watching him play this and Trying to figure out where to go when I played. But we only rented Playstation from blockbuster.. I still never got past disc 2.. got a ps2 in 2003
@extremeoctane666 I plan to replay it after I finish Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
Saying 7 looks outdated in 1999 is copium and possibly revisionist.
7 was amazing back when it was released in 97.
I owned a Nintendo 64 since 1997, believe me, the character models looked like complete shit from day 1 of release.
@@TopHatGamingManChannelThe battle graphics were good for the time and the field models were intentionally stylized. Plus we’re talking about a giant 50 hour rpg. FF7 looked amazing at the time for a game of its scope.
Calling the visuals of the original “diarrhea” is mad disrespectful
I’m definitely guilty of preferring games with modern graphics even with indisputable classics like FF VII.
@@UltimateGamerCC The voice acting mod alone is worth playing through it modded on PC. Modding is an absolute godsend for gaming.
In 1997 everyone praised the graphics
Blocky models are part of the charm of this game. If that is stopping you from playing it, I weep for you.
this is one of the few games from my childhood that I still play often and never get bored, I like the polygon graphics but the mods are crazy good
I remember beta testing echo s mod I put so many hours into it.
Man ff7 done like octopath traveler would be so damn awesome!
"It didn't look better than other games on the shelf" tell me you didn't play FF7 on release without telling me
In 1997 FF7 looked awesome, in 1999 FF8 had way better field models.
He did tell you he didn’t play it on release. He said 1999
I still remember going to a local game shop and seeing that PS case inside a tall, glass display. Never heard of it prior and traded a beanie baby benny the bull just because the cover looked badass. The white cover with the Square logo then made me buy Parasite Eve. Peak for me
Not a fan of retextures. Always prefer the originals. There's nothing wrong with old graphics.
Exactly. Remakes/reboots are a cash-grabbing plague best avoided.
@@ZacHawkins42these are fan made mods.... Sooooo....
@@ZacHawkins42 The new games are sequels not remakes/reboots lol
I guess what I really wanted was a graphical remaster and voice acting.
Honestly yeah. That was what I wanted. Still is.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 I feel you. The FF7r's showed me that I wish Square would just do nothing with the other games I love.
Truly FFVII is the best video game ever created by the hands of men.
All these visual mods don’t understand their art direction with the games. Go back and look at the actual concept art; it is made with chibi versions of the characters.
It's really you who doesn't understand
There is updated chibi models tho
Thank you for covering this. Especially Echo-s. That guy that plays Mayor Domino in it is pretty cool...
They started inserting stuff from the reimagining trying to retcon the original game.
Bruh, your description is littered with discounts on games, no mod links whatsoever, just links to other youtubers which then are either down a rabbit hole of links or behind patreons, honestly more people need to call this BS out, I can go on Nexus mods and get mods for Baldurs Gate 3 or Elden Ring, so why are these not linked correctly? shocking.
Always good to see a high-res version of Tifa the way she's supposed to look.
thanks for the discount!
You probably have to swim through a sea of Tifa thirst mods to find the quality mods.
love this video! My last full playthrough was FFVII on PC with graphic enhancement Mods before FF7 remake came out :D
The reason the voice acting was bad in the 90s is because they did not know the context at all to the dialogue.
Cloud sounds like the 'Detective Pikachu Turns Off His Body Cam', video. Ha, ha!😂
at no point in 1999 was anyone talking about ff7 looking outdated.
Can these mods be applied to the Microsoft store version or just the Steam version?
bro have you lived under a rock, these mods have been around for quite some time now
Believe it or not, not everyone has memorized the release date of every mod ever made.
I always thought the art style was just to make it look more like the original final fantasy games in 3D
I really damn love Echo-S. They're the ones who fandub modding the KOF XV game on Steam.
I already have the original version on Steam, and Remake & Rebirth on PS5. Definitely going to have to download the pc version on my Ally, and take a look at modding it.
"just got even better" these mods have been available for years bud
Sephiroths voice is awesome in that voice acting mod.
Fans on FFVII Remaster: Fine.. I'll do it myself!
Yes, the chances of ever getting a real ff7 remake are now negligible. Now the only hope is for the fan community.
Yeah fans wanted an actual remake but all we got was a reboot that made too many changes that hurt the overall story.
@@bobmclovinelectricboogaloo It's not even a reboot, it's some kind of sequel with time travel and/or a multiverse. It's like the writers asked DC how to turn the franchise into a mess.
surprised this game never got a more typical remake
the trilogy is good but wish there was like a 2015 remaster or something
Sadly Square just didn’t listen to the fans and opted for a reimagining that ruins the story.
Ff6 was on super Nintendo... There was no models... Literally only sprites, so what was fixed? 😆
For those that have never tried it, Sega Chief's New Threat 2 is simply amazing - just don't expect Echo-S to work with it for obvious reasons.
Might be fun to see if someone could make it work ;)
Crazy idea: Company pays mod developers, combines them into a new "FF7 - Classic Retouched" and sells it on all platforms = major profit.
Crystal Dynamics did this with the Tomb Raider remasters by Aspyr and it resulted in amazing high quality remasters with some QoL updates
I love this & I love you for posting it
Any word on if they're going to do anything with the Ehrgeiz: God bless the ring game which is the final fantasy fighting game that has RPG your elements Incorporated?
I love Final Fantasy VII
Thats cool and all but i think most of us who play retro games would like to play the game in its original artstyle. Personally i thought the og FF7 looked amazing. Yes the blocky sprites look outdated and silly but i find it charming.
I spent ages modding it last time, by halfway through the game I turned them all off. Preferred it!
Omg, those Cosmos mods look amazing !
I modded the hell out of the game my last playthrough on the PC version and it was worth it. Maybe because I'm not old and bitter yet.
Minimum the 60 FPS patch.
I played with New Treath too the new bosses and extra challenges were nice too.
Holy crap. I guess I need to get this on PC now!
Read the title and thought someone finally released the nude cloud mod i’ve been waiting 10 years for on OG
I've been wanting to revisit the OG FF7 after completing Remake for a while now, and these mods are edging me even more. I wonder if you can get them to work on the Steam Deck?
As far as I am aware, the answer is yes you can!
I did it on steam deck. Easy enough and there's a guide for 7th Heaven on Linux.
i wish the modders could take ever crisis assets to redo the backgrounds and 3D models, but i hope square enix will do a soft remake of the original using ever crisis assets, but full proper game, not weird mobile
At this rate, Squenix should just buy these mods and release them officially as an actual remake.
I like intergrade and Rebirth but man I would kill for an actual remake. Probably never happening though....
@GugureSux You need a history lesson.
Amazing stuff. At this point, i woukdnt be surprised to see tue graphics vokpletely overhauled witu FF7 Remake graphics in the oeiginal game somehow in a few years.
If Square was smart, theyd rerelease the original game like this and profit off this while they can.
I have the game on Steam I stopped playing because my save file keeps disappearing has anybody had this problem?
6:02 missed opportunity for inserting prequel Darth Vader "Noooooooo!"
The original game looks fine.
The remake is perfect.
Both are different. The original is intended to be played first. The remake spoils a lot of late game stuff.
The remake is a reboot that's designed to be different from the original. Personally not a fan.
The “Remake” was a huge failure
In defence of modders, OG FF7 PC-port and even emu' doesn't look like it did on PS back in the day. For starters, it was in many ways cutting edge at the time, while now it looks quirky and weird. Also it displayed as intended mainly on crt-tv's. And in many ways the og ps version was superior.
All contributing to the desire to upgrade the pc experience!
You know, my biggest problem with the original graphics are the popeye arms.
The only thing the original needs is some antialiasing. Love the default models, part of the charm
Meanwhile the game is on sale on steam itself 😂
God bless the modders...So wonderful!
I still like the dated graphics, though I think if they have done a full remake of the turn based FF7, then it should be like FF Ever Crisis, the full FF7 game not the game with bits of the story in it.
Are these mods compatible with steam?
I'm just waiting for fans to make an abridged version of the Remake trilogy so I can play something with good pacing.
It looked laughably bad back then? WTF are you talking about? I didn’t know a single person that thought it was anything other than a visual spectacle.
My knee-jerk reaction:
Still don't like the models from one but not what we're talking about
If I played the game again I think I'd still play it vanilla. Although maybe see if 5 has some options on what is included and what's not.
It will be more better if those mods available on PSX version also.
Exactly I want to play it on an emulator on one of my handhelds
with how FF7R is being heavily censored by Gen Zeroes, i'd much rather play the OG. i should look into Mods for the game and get it on PC.
"Gen Zeroes"
Don't blame any individual generation for the continued existence of Woke. Its continued existence is a failure cascade that goes back centuries.
Sorry I don’t know which it is so you have to dig it up, but there is a 60 FPS mod and it looks really good
Still my favorite mainline FF. Tactics is favorite. I've been holding on to a pipe dream of SE using assets from FFVIIR to remake FF7. Mods may be the closest reality will take me. Thanks for the comprehensive video. I was aware there were mods but never dove into researching them.
Never realy finished the original back in the the day. But I would rather try to start a new run with modded graphics than playing the remakes.
Modders making the remaster I wanted from Square-Enix
It’s not as enjoyable for new players as people make it out to be…
play the audio of either Barret or Cid when the speak in symbols
Nope I just had a Nintendo 64, so knew what polygon character models were supposed to look like.
I fucking love the FF7 modding community.
There was nothing wrong with the original. Heck, to this day I still find myself going back to the classic… if only to beat EMERALD WEAPON.
Anyone that hates the Remakes proves that they have a room temperature IQ and were never real FF7 fans to begin with
Ehn..Im good with the 1997 original. ❤
lol sure but trust me i’ve been using these mods and it enhances the game so much. cutscenes alone are now hd 1080 60 fps and in widescreen now and models are cleaned up and every character has voice acting which makes the game just even better for me as a first time player
not to mention speed up gameplay and visual and adjustable gameplay enhancer/modifiers. i know other games in the series had speed up/auto gameplay but its even better in here you can set it as fast as you want
That voice acting mod is ROUGH. LMAO.
Yeah it's totally tragic 😂
