Another Tip. Or rather, travel advice. If you look for a very nice place to visit in an afternoon, take the line H at Gare du Nord, and visit Enghien-les-Bains. It's a 15 minutes train ride that'll lead you to a small town, but it's absolutely beautiful, and it's home of one of France's best chocolate maker. There is a beautiful lake, and in the summer there's often a Jazz Festival where they'll set up a floating scene on said lake. Plus there is a Casino if it's your thing. So yeah, try and visit it, it's worth it.
We met once if you might recall, it was at Hotel Executive Enclave, Bandra, Mumbai, India during breakfast time at the hotel restaurant. It was probably in the year 2016 or 2017, I can't exactly remember. I told you that I too am a RUclipsr but I don't do YouTubing professionally, for me it is a hobby & passion. Jay, I am toying with the idea of visiting Paris in early June 2023. I plan to go to London and then to Paris by train. I think your tips will be of help, thanks for posting this video. Wish you Happy 😊 & Successful traveling.
Came across your video, I was curious cause a lot of people give wrong info, you were spot on. good info. I’ve lived in paris now for 14-years. I jus want to add that if it’s really stormy out, do not take a cab or eg Uber. Traffic becomes horrible and you’re better off taking the metro.
It took my five years of living in SW France and 3 months in Paris to learn all this 😅 My tips: go to the back of every church you can! Prettiest views are back there! Also most streets are too small to turn right on red, literally will not work if two cars try to move through the intersection at once 😭 If you’re just visiting Paris for a week, spend each day in a different neighborhood. Take the metro (it is its own experience) but walk as much as you can to get a feel for the city! If you only have a week in France, head south!! Saying “Bonjour” will change your entire trip for the better 🙌🏼 Try out all the French you can, most people will really like it or at least they won’t be insulted by your attempt. And finally, eat the baguettes, take every opportunity for a croissant, and worry about walking it off layer.
I’m from Los Angeles and recently moved here to Paris 4 months ago.. I love it! Very useful tips, also for tourists.. be prepared for some stares from locals on the metro. I thought I was doing something wrong when I first arrived, but it was just that I looked “touristy”.. don’t take it personal, it’s just easy to tell whose a tourist or a local :) … You may also say, “Bonjour, ça va?”- it means, hello, how are you?.. If someone says it to you, then you can just respond with, “ça va” to let them know you’re good. Moreover, if it’s evening, you say “Bonsoir”. And another important word you may already know is “merci”.. which means, thank you. I myself am still learning some social cues, but nobody is perfect, so don’t worry too much about language barrier, just enjoy your time in Paris!
Man I just got back from 2 weeks in Paris. I used to watch your videos to learn, and I still do; but now I watch them to be reminded about Paris. The sound they play when the metro is coming really brought me back haha
Jay, thanks for doing this video. When I told my husband that Metro tickets were no longer available in carnets of 10 he was stunned. I had him watch this with me and we took notes. Now we know we need to get a Navigo card for our next trip in May, our 7th visit in 9 years. We enjoy your videos. Having Cooper as your sidekick is a bonus.
Jay, the best part of your videos is whenever you tell us to *not* do something. It's hysterical and just makes us want to take your advice all the more seriously.
I arrived in Paris today and I am so happy to be back! I’ve traveled here nearly every year for 25 years and agree with your tips and also picked up a couple new ones. Agree completely about staying near Notre Dame. We finally figured out staying on the Champs Elysee was boring and we spent all our time traveling. I bought your first guide and appreciate all you have done!
Hi Kimberly, as a french guy not living in Paris, I hope that in your 25+ trips you tried other cities, like Bordeaux, Lyon or Rennes, my hoemtown ! :)

Excellent! Thanks for getting right down to it. I forgot about not turning right on red. Glad I saw this before my trip. I have some paper metro tickets from last time. Can I still use them? I get my SIM card from Lefrenchmobile before I go so I can use my phone as soon as I arrive.
Do you think that Paris is a good place for a first time solo traveler? I'm a 24 year old introvert from the UK and I'm trying to improve my social skills and confidence. Also what time of year would you recommend? Thanks.
love - have been a few times, - spot on - we are world travelers, have seen and done so much - we did paris (2nd) time a few years ago for xmas holiday! can see and do a lot if you are knowledgable.
Smart! The book - well, okay, The Guide; the marketing so far including this video; and everything that you have done thus far. And your drive to live in Paris because that is where you WANT to be? Smart, certainly, but more. Traits I wish I had, and maybe I do. But first, I need to visit Paris and see if I am right. And a visit to Paris won’t be complete nor successful, without your guide. I might memorize it before I go, let’s see. First, I need to buy it so am heading there now. Thanks!
I'd go out to the street and find one waiting, make sure they've got a meter, and don't agree to pay a ton up front. I wrote out a piece on this in the guide but use your wits and you'll be good!
Hi there! So grateful I came across this video. My trip to Paris is next week and I was wondering what’s the place you are sitting at the beginning of the video overlooking the Eiffel Tower? Thank you in advance! ☺️
We are arriving in London from Toronto in August and taking the Eurostar to Paris during our trip. We will be getting the GiffGaff sim card for our phones. I believe it works in Paris too. Are you able to confirm this Jay. Great video btw 😊
Leaving in 5 days with the wifey, first time staying in Paris And honestly first time on our own in Europe…with kids those 30’s went by in a flash! Anyway about the trip I’m kind of freaking out lol. Any other must watch videos of yours?
Thank you for the awesome tips, Jay. Will be in Paris for 4 1/2 days in December. My first time to Europe. Will be spending 7 days in London. Staying in the 11th Arrondissement which I hope is not a mistake but looking forward to seeing a few attractions but mostly want to feel like a local and relax with a coffee and pastry at a cafe in a less touristy area.
To add from the above: The 11th is one of the best places for good food, as well, so you'll have lots of options. The best place to feel like a local and be near lots of quality coffee.
Making my first trip in September. (First time out of the country, too). Since I spent a few years in NYC I plan to use Le Metro, but I was planning to stay near the Eiffel Tower. Maybe I'll change that. There's a little hotel behind Shakespeare & Co, so I think that's what I'll try to get since it's close enough to walk across to most things. (Especially since I'm on a budget and the Gay bars are in Quartier de L'Horloge near Le Centre Pompidou).

@@JaySwanson Just curious...is the downstairs bathroom in #20 from the Cafe Beaubourg near the Pompidou??
I love how this is like "local tips" hahahahah very much like one of our internet friends, unlike Google which suggests very boring things hahahah well I'm only ready for how to get a bit of a discount on the Europe railroads thanks to this video which gave me more good tips I'm looking forward to my trip to Europe next month!
Ok you’re my new fav! Love it how you’re funny and straight to the point. Heading to Paris in a couple of weeks!
Hello from Wenatchee! We are heading to Paris in the fall and love your channel. My husband likes your shirt too...(Run Washington)!
Going there in August, omg you are very energetic and positive. Thank you for making the videos fun 😊
You're most welcome!
Excellent! Thanks for getting right down to it. I forgot about not turning right on red. Glad I saw this before my trip. I have some paper metro tickets from last time. Can I still use them? I get my SIM card from Lefrenchmobile before I go so I can use my phone as soon as I arrive.
Good tips. Love your little doggie.
Thanks! Me too
Do you think that Paris is a good place for a first time solo traveler? I'm a 24 year old introvert from the UK and I'm trying to improve my social skills and confidence. Also what time of year would you recommend? Thanks.
We French are also introvert. Take a chance.
Definitely a good place for a first time. It's easy to navigate, safe, and as stated in another response, the French will generally leave you alone 😆
love - have been a few times, - spot on - we are world travelers, have seen and done so much - we did paris (2nd) time a few years ago for xmas holiday! can see and do a lot if you are knowledgable.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Memorizing it would be IMPRESSIVE. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
Love your Boston. Dirst time Ihave seen one in Paris.
He's a keeper 😊
Jay I was watching before my visit Sept. 2022 and back to refresh for upcoming Sept. 2024. PS Luv the Puppy
🥂 Have a great trip!
Bonjour! Love your video, quick and brief, thanks.
You're welcome!
Thanks for sharing this video. It was helpful and informative. 😊😊
Awesome video Jay! And you’re looking great by the way!
Thank you!
Great video Jay and well done on guide. Any tips on getting taxi a taxi Gare de Nord…..I have been screwed more than a few times! Thanks
I'd go out to the street and find one waiting, make sure they've got a meter, and don't agree to pay a ton up front. I wrote out a piece on this in the guide but use your wits and you'll be good!
Best video! Funny and great info!
Hi there! So grateful I came across this video. My trip to Paris is next week and I was wondering what’s the place you are sitting at the beginning of the video overlooking the Eiffel Tower? Thank you in advance! ☺️
Fantastic!!! Great tips. I think this is gonna be a banger! 🤞🏼👍🏼
Thanks! I had a lot of fun making it
We are arriving in London from Toronto in August and taking the Eurostar to Paris during our trip. We will be getting the GiffGaff sim card for our phones. I believe it works in Paris too. Are you able to confirm this Jay. Great video btw 😊
Thanks Jay! What cafe is this last tip in? I love in Paris and it looks cool, I’d love to go there!😊
Dancing Goat, nice spot in the 20e
Leaving in 5 days with the wifey, first time staying in Paris And honestly first time on our own in Europe…with kids those 30’s went by in a flash! Anyway about the trip I’m kind of freaking out lol. Any other must watch videos of yours?
The 20 in 20 series is popular, but maybe how to use the metro just to get a refresher 👍👍
Great tips. Coming in May. Thanks.
I love Paris.
I am currently staying in the 11th and the food is amazing here and the locals have been very kind to the silly Americans 😊. Very happy here
@@damioncline981 any specific places you loved and can suggest, Damion?
The Bathroom tip is Gold! *USE THE TOILET BEFORE YOU LEAVE RESTAURANTS!*
Now this was done well and great tips gong to Paris
Thank you!
Check out Le Marais. I always stay there. It’s the best.
Totally a worthy switch of locations, especially if you're wanting to walk to the bars and back 🍻
Very helpful! And can we talk about that adorable Boston Terrier?
Wow Wow! You upped your game. Rick S. can take notes of you. 🌴🌴 Aloha
😆😆
Well done! So enjoyable!
Thanks!
