Jason, don't cut the daffodils off when they have finished flowering. The bulb gets energy from the green leaves. It will make them multiply and be healthier . You can trim the leaves back when they dry up. Good luck. I have them in clumps all over my gardens. They are so pretty in the spring.
Boy I wish I was close to you. I would love to go dig some daffodils with you. I live in Slidell, Louisiana ( just north of the lake from New Orleans) and I think it’s zone 9a. I have always wanted bulb flowers like tulips and daffodils but I was told they only work here if you dig them up and put them in the refrigerator to simulate longer winters. If they go wild there, maybe that type will grow down here. Love ❤️
@@kathymcgathy2006 There are varieties of daffs that will naturalize even in zones 9-10. You probably will have to order them online but you might be surprised at how many don't require a cold spell. Tulips and hyacinths, yes, they do need a few months of coolness. I live in 9b (southern Arizona). I have to get hyacinths pre-chilled. They will grow outside and bloom, but only for that one season. They don't come back. But the daffodils rated for my area, yes, they will come back if I feed the soil with a good fertilizer for bulbing plants.
@@donnajoyner1474 Have you tried a high potash feed for the daffs when they are flowering, i've found they tend to do better with this than a high nitrogen feed. Coghill is going to be the most beautiful farm in Alabama! And I'm so excited to watch it happen from the beginning. Thank you Smith family for bringing us along. ❤ 😍 🌼 🌸 🌻
I have gone back many times to past videos just to see the farm from the beginning now glad I did so I can see it’s progressing to the beautiful farm it is today and to be a small part of that!!
My Mom loved roses so much that my Dad went and took college courses on gardening -horticulture. He grew roses along the front of our yard, they were gorgeous! I couldn't believe Mom left her roses to move to N. Maine with me and the kids. She died 8 months after they moved here. I miss her so much. 😪
When you were in the greenhouse talking about the daffodils, all I could do was watch Holly running back and forth, over and over again outside. She is definitely loving her life with y'all ❤️
I inherited my grandparents place. In the big field behind the house, we have thousands of daffodils. They multiply each year. It's a blanket of yellow. People stop and look at them. Truly blessed.
Brooke, you have done it again with your bargain sleuthing. I can’t imagine what this farm will look like in 10 years. Gardens, mature fruit trees and bushes, a well established pond, --and a 23 year old daughter! (She’ll have to have a separate apartment.)
Wow what a beautiful find those Daffodils will be for y’all’s farm ! I think planting them out by the roadside in front is a great idea also I think planting some down by the pond on the far side facing towards the road would be beautiful also !!that is gonna really put on a show especially when they start multiplying next year and the years to come! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻
I love daffodils, but Iris are my all time favorite. I noticed there were also lilies of the valley where you thinned the daffodils, but it wouldn't be a good idea for the farm as they are poisonous. They are so sweet and pretty to look at though. My very favorite flowers are peonies, not sure they grow in Alabama though, so may have to settle on Camellias which is a bonus, as it blooms in winter.
Good morning Cog Hill and Cog squad ❤. I am so happy when yall put out new videos I love your farm. Everyone remember to smash the like button for the best channel on U Tube💯❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍
Absolutely beautiful. Seeing the three of you work together is heartwarming. And the idea of working smarter with Brooke's 🚜, Plan A. Plan B digging a trench.
I used to have a long fence next to a public path. I planted my favorite flower, Rudbekia (black-eyed susan) along the entire length. People I didn't know would take the time to tell me how much they enjoyed walking past them and how beautiful they were. I edged along them so there was no problem with mowing. I think you'll really enjoy your tulips.
Black-eyed Susan's are gorgeous . I remember them from my very young age.I would love to have a place to have those beautiful black-eyed susan, daffodils and iris growing in an area where I live. The space in front of my apartment at a Senior residence in not very big. Every one enjoy the beauty of flowers while we are able. God made some beautiful flowers and shrubs.❤️
Sherry Taylor - Growing up in Carolina Beach, NC I enjoyed what was locally called black eyed susans along the streets & fences, in small clumps, competing with the sand spurs. They thrived on neglect throughout the summer.
Ya'll ought to plant those daffodils in alphabet spelling the name Cog Hill Family Farm; that would be a show-stopper in just a couple of seasons ! I have done that with several different kinds of bulbs (tulips, iris, etc) for words or hearts, etc. and they are always commented on. I'm with you, daffodils are such a happy flower. Love your farm; I so hope you are able to open it to the public one day in the next few years; it will be a success !
I had a friend whose daughter watched her farm for a week. The following spring daffodils popped up all over in the most unexpected places! Her daughter had done it when she farm sat. By the time I saw it, five years had passed and they were good-sized bunches of daffodils everywhere.
Narcissus is one of my favorite families. As several others have commented, don't cut the greens when the plants stop flowering. Let the leaves die back on their own to ensure the plants feed themselves and build up bulbs for next year. Do this every year and pretty soon the whole fence-line will be covered in naturalized plants. It will knock your socks off!

❤ that is going to be beautiful! When we moved into our homestead I had to dig up and divide thousands of day lilies , irises, sedums, and other perennials. I planted the excess all the way along the wood line around our yard. I literally planted thousands of transplants. It gets more and more beautiful every year!!! That’s what I do anytime I thin my perennials now. It’s soooooo beautiful ❤between the wildflowers, wild roses, pine trees and now the perennials 🥰😍 it’s amazing! Those daffodils are going to put on one heck of a show ❤
Oh my! When Jason set that Mason jar filled with daffodils in the window it took my breath away! I grew up in southeastern Virginia and we had them all over our property and we had fresh cut flowers in the house all spring.
I love y'all's excitement about the daffodils! I don't blame you! For such a simple flower, they are sooooo beautiful, and seeing them come up assures us that spring is just around the corner!
They do that here along the interstate (Buffalo) and they are amazing every spring. I love daffodils, paper whites and tulips...and tulips come in so many shapes and colors. Your fence line/entrance is going to look magnificent next spring!
What a joy to see daffodils coming up somewhere. I live in zone 3 and we won’t see them for another two months probably. In fact we have another winter storm coming tomorrow. I’d love to live where plants can be grown year round and where spring comes in February!
I'm so happy about you getting the daffodils. I remember as a child here in Alabama, walking through the woods one day and I hit a sunny area, and there were just rows and rows and rows of daffodils growing out in the woods. It was so beautiful, I'll never forget it.
Wow, I’m so excited on the planting of flowers. Another great video! This family is so impressive, wonderful and always brings a smile to my face. THANK YOU!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What a wonderful addition to the farm! Well Done Brooke!!! You can always order some bulbs next fall and plant them in the area where you leave off with this batch. I love daffy's, (daffodils) crocuses, grape hyacinth's and paper whites. they all come in early spring. And if you are into tulips there are so many varieties and colors. I also love bearded Irises. They smell heavenly. They remind me of my Grandmother. She had a patch and every time I smell an Iris I think of her. Another good roadside flower would be Tiger Lillies.
WOW! That is a TON of daffodils! I love them, too, they are such a welcome sight after a long winter. I have them lining the side of my house, they were there when I bought my house 30 yrs ago and they are still going strong. Their little yellow faces are the source of much joy! Just a quick comment about mowing them. I was always told to wait until the leaves die back as they are doing the work of photosynthesis, collecting energy for the bulb to grow again next spring.
Daffodils are so so beautiful.. When the forsythia bloom and then the Daffodils.. you KNOW you've survived another New England winter. When I was a "snow bird" in Florida, getting back in time to catch the daffodil bloom was a must. So happy that these flowers found their way to you... of course they did. 😃 😊 🙏
There's not a thing is the world that makes me smile faster than a field of yellow flowers. Not even Texas Bluebonnets, roses, etc., give me yellow flowers any day!
My parents bought their home back in 1978. My mom planted daffodils around the entire house. The bulbs have multiplied numerous times. They sure do look beautiful when they all bloom. They remind me that spring will be here soon.
Daffodils always seem like rays of sunshine that God sends after the winter. Thanks for sharing and may blessings be passed on as another act of kindness. ❤
Mary Carl, it good to see you. I miss your beautiful smile. You guys make me want to dig in the dirt. We don't plant until late Mothers day around here.
You may want to check; but I think you should wait til the leaves die down before transplanting. The leaves are now storing energy in the bulb for next year. When you move them now, they will go into shock for a while, and that will affect next years blooms. They are usually planted fairly deep here.
Those are so beautiful - will be gorgeous over the next several years - breathtaking! So glad y’all were able to get those - thankful the ground was moist to remove & replant.
May God bless the very generous woman who passed on the daffodils. A beautiful recycling project. Your farm is going to be gorgeous. ❤❤❤

That’s what I do anytime I thin my perennials now. It’s soooooo beautiful ❤between the wildflowers, wild roses, pine trees and now the perennials 🥰😍 it’s amazing! Those daffodils are going to put on one heck of a show ❤
My coffee and Cog Hill!
A great combo! A great beginning to Valentines Eve! Love y’all.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love daffodils since I was a child. I am now 74. Absolutely beautiful
Good morning Cog Hill and Cog Squad!!! It’s another great day!!!
Morning!
Good morning 🌅🌄🌅🌄
Jason, you have the best laugh when you are laughing at the animals' antics. I cannot help but smile.
I'm so happy about you getting the daffodils. I remember as a child here in Alabama, walking through the woods one day and I hit a sunny area, and there were just rows and rows and rows of daffodils growing out in the woods. It was so beautiful, I'll never forget it.
There’s nothing more beautiful than daffodils! 😊😊😊😊
Wow, I’m so excited on the planting of flowers. Another great video! This family is so impressive, wonderful and always brings a smile to my face. THANK YOU!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The spirit lifting just went to a whole new level!! ❤❤❤
Coghill is going to be beautiful with all the gardens and those beautiful daffodils!! Y’all do are hard workers!! Brooke really stumbles on so great finds 👍🏻 Holly is a hoot 😂 doing zoomed while your talking in the greenhouse, I was laughing so hard , she’s precious ❤️Bless y’all
Brook is a master at finding legit Facebook deals! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The daffodils are beautiful along the front of Cog Hill! So cute watching Holly run back and forth while you were in the greenhouse! Love y'all! ❤❤❤❤
Now this is what I call hitting the jackpot. Those look beautiful and brightens up the fence line. As always enjoyed and thanks.
Hi! I always stop watching a video when I see yaw here!!!❤❤
You're the best! :)
You all have accomplished so much in such a short time.
You should plant some around your trees by the pond. Next spring is going to look amazing.
It's as if Holly has always been there y'all just didn't know she was coming, don't you love how God's plan comes together!!!💜
There's not a thing is the world that makes me smile faster than a field of yellow flowers. Not even Texas Bluebonnets, roses, etc., give me yellow flowers any day!
Looking good this am.
Thanks
What beauty God shares with us..
My parents bought their home back in 1978. My mom planted daffodils around the entire house. The bulbs have multiplied numerous times. They sure do look beautiful when they all bloom. They remind me that spring will be here soon.
Seeing a field of daffodils sure would make me happy!
Daffodils always seem like rays of sunshine that God sends after the winter. Thanks for sharing and may blessings be passed on as another act of kindness. ❤
Lol 😊love seeing Holly running back and forth behind you. Love that dog, she’s adorable…!
Mary Carl, it good to see you. I miss your beautiful smile. You guys make me want to dig in the dirt. We don't plant until late Mothers day around here.
This would be the time to use a planting auger attached to your drill.
Going to be beautiful❣️
Wow! I can’t believe how awesome it already looks! Those will keep on giving and giving!
God is SO good! You all bless us by sharing His Bounty towards your family! Love to each of you.
Can't wait to see the daffodils bloom. Got a good laugh at Holly running around in the background.
Jason it's best to let the daffodils wither and turn brown before you mow them. The green leaves is what feeds the plant for next year's blooms.
